I was reading ahead in our AP psycology book a few days ago and it said that most girls don't know when the most risky time of the month to have sex is (risky as in getting pregnant), but the book didn't actually say when it is. So now I'm freaking out a little, I have some idea, but I don't really know. If you have any idea, or any other information along the same lines, please inform me (I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place, if not, sorry)

Most women don't have a definite time of the month to get pregnant. In theory it's 2 weeks before the start of your menstrual cycle and the most likely times to get pregnant are 3 days before that and a couple after. To clarify, you're supposed to ovulate 2 weeks before the start of your cycle and then take the days from there. But there are plenty of females who ovulate more then once a month or just ovulate at different times and are unreliable. Some women have been known to be pregnant, ovulate right away again and get re-impregnated. Even though it shouldn't happen as it's not in that magical time frame.

But most people, especially teens who have notoriously unsteady cycles, aren't regular enough to have that be a constant.

So to be safe, treat every day like it's the most risky day to have sex, even during your cycle.

Well based on the normal 28 day cycle, the day you ovulate is day 14. But that doesn't mean that is the only day you have to be worried about having sex. If sperm enter your body before that date they can actually enter a dormant stage until the egg is released and then will go and fertilize it. The egg is also active for many days after that time so sperm entering after it is released can fertilize as well. All of this said, the point is that there is no safe time so protect yourself every time you have sex.

Also, since you're in an AP Psych class, I thought I'd point out that it's spelt p-s-y-c-h-o-l-o-g-y. 3nodding

Your answer is this: It doesn't matter and there is absolutly NO reason why you should be panicking about this.

You should be using protection EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU HAVE SEX, regardless of what part of the month, or what day, or whether it's leap year, or whatever else.

Furthermore, you CAN get pregnant at any time. My mother-in-law got pregnant in the waning days of her period. Seriously, it doesn't matter whether you are in your "peak" time or not, it's just that the chance is increased during the "peak" time. Also, many women will release two or more eggs during a single month.

So as I said, there is absolutly no reason you should be freaking out about this because you SHOULD be using protection every time you have sex (preferably the pill (or some other hormonal therapy) AND condoms).
