- does this go in this section or the body image one? :'O I'm kinda confused so sorry if it's in the wrong sub-forum area.

So today I had a doctors appointment, I knew it would be focused on my weight but I was hoping that I could talk to my doctor about my depression. It's been getting really bad since February, so I was hoping she would give me something so I could feel more like myself again and actually want to do what I used too.

So I tell her about it and the only thing she said basically was I'm depressed because I'm so over weight and have body issues. Yes, I do have body issues but I'm not depressed because I have low self-esteem. She also said that she won't prescribe me anti-depressants because they'll make me gain weight and that's not what I need so she gave me a seven day trial of Alli (a weight loss aid) and told me to call her every month so she can see how I'm doing.

I started to diet in early February and was doing really well until I got sick and severely depressed so I just stopped doing what I was doing and went back to my old ways. So, I don't know~ should I just give up?

If you want to continue losing weight, I don't think you should give up. 3nodding If you think your depression is what's keeping you from losing weight, then perhaps you should tackle that first (as you said).

Something that isn't always mentioned - if your doctor isn't helping you, don't be afraid to seek out a second opinion (another doctor, a walk-in clinic), or seek out a mental health professional who has experience with people who have depression. When I went to my walk-in clinic, I asked for anti-depressants and the doctor asked me a list of questions to determine my eligibility for anti-depressants. And while she said she didn't like to start someone on medication if they hadn't been on it before, in the end she trusted my judgement and gave me a prescription for the pills. I personally haven't had weight gain as a side effect (I'm already chubby though, so maybe I gained a little and just didn't notice), but that's just me.

Also, even if you were to gain weight, you should still be able to exercise it off no?

I'd recommend talking to another doctor if your current doctor won't prescribe you the meds you think you need. Actually, your reason for getting them is the same reason I asked my walk-in doctor for them - I just wanted to get back up to a basic level of functioning so I could begin to tackle my depression and other issues in my life. And it worked.

And no worries, this is in the right subforum. heart *hug*

It's like, I totally understand why she's pressing me about my weight since I'm only 19 and weigh 220. She wants me to be at least 160 but it's really hard to lose weight in general. Everyone I talked to told me to look up the side effects of Alli and do my research before I start taking them even though my doctor said it's pretty safe and has no real side effects... so I don't know.

I'm just thinking about giving up trying to talk to anyone about my depression because they just focus all my problems about me being over weight. It's like "Oh, you're over weight so ALL your problems stem from you being fat." Um... no. It just frustrates me when they look at my size and just automatically assume that everything is the fault of my fat.

I just want to feel motivated to actually start back on eating healthy and exercising like I used too (DDR ftw).

I'd love to do DDR to work out if my frigging mat would stop sliding around on the carpet. Halfway through the song it's no longer where it was before, making it harder to hit the arrows. talk2hand And I'm in a rental, so I can't nail it to the carpet or anything, otherwise I would.

I have the same issue with my mat xD; I'm thinking about investing in a really good metal mat~ just so it wont slide and the arrow sensors wont move around in the mat ><;;

I want to get the most recent game (there's an X in the title I think?) but can't remember where I saw it. I shouldn't spend money on games, but I haven't had a new DDR game in ages. I used to be really good at playing it with a controller, but I'm out of practice and the last time I tried to do it on my old high speed, I strained my eyes for about a week.

Anyways. xd So why not start DDR again, even if you just have the plastic mat? What about researching the cost of a metal mat, would that help you get motivated and/or feel like you had an exercise goal to work towards?

With Alli... my friend was telling me how it and other weight loss aids like it mean that the fat doesn't bind, so you don't put on weight. You do, however, have liquid coming out of your a**.

Put me right off. x.x

I know how you feel about how hard it is to lose weight, the only time I've ever lost weight I don't even know how I did it - probably just because I was so stressed that I was eating hardly anything. And now I've put it all back on. x.x

I think you should just work on getting rid of your depression first because if you get more depressed I don't think you'll be able to keep losing weight. Maybe just go play some sports, run across a park listening to some music you never had time to try listening, and maybe even talk to your parents about life. I did and now I feel like I can just say "F**k you" in public xD. It's amazing how little things in life affects you along the way.. People might not be judging on your weight but what you are overall. No one blames you for being overweight it's okay.. well of course when I say okay I mean that it's just you and that you should be glad that it is... But depression is more serious than fat. I think we've all seen.. bigger people... But depression leads to a lot of stress and pain which you might will be going through the rest of your life... Weight.. you can always lose it if you try.. Depression.. Just be happy and think about the happy things of your life. Maybe your childhood or what you have that makes you so special in this world.. Don't always think about the downsides that's how you fall out. If you think up, you go up. Hope this helps you a lot. Good luck! heart
