Journal Entry #1
Summoning Scáthach
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Silently, Audra paced around the clearing. Twilight was soon approaching, and she knew that if she didn't summon the esper today, she wouldn't have a chance to for the next few weeks as she would be busy on a mission. The sun dipped lower in the horizon, as the sky began to take on a dusky colour. Soon, the light faded away and the world entered twilight, the time of shadows.
Having heard the words from a witch who had suggested she ought to have an esper to accompany her, the witch offered her a few scraps of paper with esper summons on them. After giving her instructions on how to summon the esper, the witch had disappeared, leaving Audra alone in the middle of the woods. She had then made her was to a clearing nearby, and waited for dusk to come.
And now that dusk had fallen and the world had entered twilight, Audra stood in the middle of the clearing, a light breeze teasing her unbound hair. Clenched in her hand was the scrap of paper she had acquired earlier today, and she read it again. In flowing script, it said "Shadowed Twilight". This intrigued Audra and she decided that now was the time to summon the esper. The wind died down as if it knew of her decision, knowing how it would change her life forever. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Audra read the words once more.
"One of the shadowed twilight, I call upon thee!" Audra spoke into the suddenly still air. A strong wind suddenly gusted as a poe appeared before her. It's muted colours reminded her of the twilight that the world was now suspended in. Shadows surrounded her and the poe, forming a small enclave as she stood there, facing the poe.
"What is it you wish of me, one of the Sheikah?" Its whispery voice sent slight chills down Audra's spine. Shadows danced around them, flickering and reshaping, never constant and ever-changing.
"I wish to form a bond with thee, one that will bind you to me." Audra recited, remembering the instructions from the witch earlier that day. She felt slightly uneasy that she had told no one where she would be now, and fearful should anything happen to her.
"Very well." Its raspy voice echoed. "A price you must pay for this bond you seek." Its golden eyes were on her, and she looked at it, having no clue as to its gender.
"I bind thee by the shadow within, forever to do my bidding." She said, her voice wavering slightly. The poe made a hissing sound, now bound to Audra. The shadows danced closer, even as a swirling tendril touched her right shoulder. A strange chill surrounded her until the shadow moved away, revealing a tattoo that bound the poe to her. The shadows around her flickered and faded into the darkness, leaving her and the poe in the dark clearing. Stars twinkled above them as the clearing was lit by the the ghosly lantern the poe held.
"So, I must have a name." The poe whispered. It shifted and flickered, like the shadows. "Shadows are my play, and the shadow I am."
"Scáthach. The shadowy one." Audra decided. The poe inclined its head before disappearing into the darkness.
"I shall follow along your shadows. Find me there should you want to call upon Scáthach, the shadowy one. He who can call upon shadows." The whispering voice lingered in the air.
It was done. Audra had an esper now, though he was somewhat unconventional and intriguing, he was as much a mystery to her as she was to much of the world. Audra smiled inwardly. A storm and a shadow, how different, and yet, how similar.
