"My father would only be too delighted to assist you in such an endeavor." Jianyu said, laughing lightly. His father was always eager to meet any of Jianyu's acquaintances, whether they be close or distant, male or female. He and Ehuang had a habit of constantly pressing Jianyu for information on every single little detail, so having a dear friend of his ask for a tattoo was going to be a big deal.
He wasn't sure what Huang was doing when he reached into his pocket, but Jianyu's thoughts soon evaporated as he looked at the object in Huang's hand. His jaw dropped in astonishment, a bright flush of red instantly crossing his cheeks.
It was a hawk. A beautiful, carved hawk, small enough to fit in the palm of his hand. Made of a mixture of gold and white gold, it glittered in the late afternoon sun, making it almost seem alive. Its neck was stretched, wings extended as if it had been stopped mid-flight, and for several moments Jianyu could do nothing but stare. He had always had an interest in hawks; they were such gorgeous creatures, so free and independent, strong and intelligent. His crossbow was evidence enough of his love for the creature, but he had not thought he had told Huang of this.
Yet there it was, sitting on the table and glinting in the sun. Jianyu felt something hard settle in his stomach, his heart beating slowly, rhythmically.
"Huang, I..." he said, then stopped. "I am...at a loss for words."
To refuse such a gift would be rude, so Jianyu reached out slowly, gently picking up the bird. It felt light in his palm, a welcoming weight, and he ran a finger down its smooth back.
"Thank you..." Jianyu said softly, a smile touching his lips. "Huang, thank you. This...one of the most wonderful gifts I have ever been given."
Setting the bird back down, Jianyu reached up, unlatching the necklace around his neck. With careful, quick movements he strung the bird onto the wire string, looping it around to the front before fastening it back around his neck.
"I'm afraid...I do not have anything to give you in return." he said, somewhat despondently. He felt terribly unprepared, his fingers brushing over the bird again. "Please forgive me."
Jianyu's expression softened. "Do not give up." he said. "Show him how you feel, but don't overpower him. Small gestures I believe. The simplest ones are the ones that matter the most, sometimes."
Like the time Bataar had tucked a flower into my hair, Jianyu thought, smiling at the memory. He was still growing used to being away from the Mongol now, but thinking back on their time did not pain him nearly as much as it had.
"Ah..." Jianyu said, his face flushing further. He reached a hand up, massaging the back of his neck. "I, er...well, I had...a lover for quite some time. But recent events...well, we are no longer together."
He gave a shrug, smiling somewhat sheepishly. "But it is for the best. As of right now I am...simply going through my daily routines alone."

"That is good then, I would be pleased for your father to design it as well." Huang nodded as he went back to his leaned back position, stretching his legs and crossing them underneath the table as his arms crossed over his torso.
Though his smile grew as he watched Jianyu's obvious delight and astonishment at his gift. It was thrilling and touched something deeply in him that Jianyu accepted his gift so easily even though he was unaware of how much he had charmed his master.
"I do not need repayment." Huang smirked, "Just the continuance of our training together is enough for me, and that we may have meet outside of war preparations as well Master. Sometimes..." Huang paused looking for the right words, "When I am with you, much like the free hawk, I feel like the world is open to me, because even though I still follow you around and such, I am not constantly shadowed and treated equally. Remember that you gave me the greatest gift of them all Jianyu." Huang looked outside of the cafe at the sunshine that poured in, "You gave me something brighter to live and strive for. A day where one day I too..." Huang reached over the table and tapped the hawk that was now on Jianyu's throat, "Where I too will fly free from the cage I bring upon myself, and when that day comes, I will be an equal in both yours, my families and the whole Lunarian world." Huang sat back again and smiled softly. "That hawk will forever remain my thanks for all that you have already given me Jianyu, its the least I could do."
"Oh..." Huang frowned, he hadn't thought of that, he was too intense in his emotions as always so he hadn't of thought of trying to be simply...simple about his feelings. "Ah see, another thing you have helped me with Jianyu! Thank you very much!"
"Did you really?!?" Huang leaned forward now before pouting at his master, "The b*****d mistreated you didn't they? I will never forgive that woman if she has trampled your heart Master." Huang's fist clenched as he would look into the matter later. Whoever caused Jianyu's heart grief would get now mercy from Huang.
"Ah well sometimes we all crave simple things! Even its alone." Huang scooted his chair back as he stood up and stretched. "But always remember that I am here for you!" Huang bent down, his face close to Jianyu's before tapping their lips together in a friendly kiss, "And that is for payback. Next time you have a problem with your lover, I will beat them up for you." Huang smiled again as he looked outside, maybe it was time for a walk or so?

It was difficult to keep up with Huang's words. Jianyu felt as if they were being inscribed into his very being, his soul. He had never before heard that sort of pure gratitude and respect from any other person before, and it very nearly overwhelmed him. For a few moments, he just sat and listened, the words pouring into him like silk and chocolate, warming his heart. When he'd first met Huang, the younger man had been shy and awkward, his mind closed to the ways of others, his conscious shrouded in darkness and confusion. It was if he had been tangled in a web of threads that he couldn't seem to get out of.
"My dearest Huang," Jianyu said gently, a small, quiet smile curving his lips upwards. "I did not do as much as you think. Most of your growth has come from yourself."
Reaching out, Jianyu touched a hand to the young Fighter's chest, his fingers lightly pressing down on the smooth fabric. "Keep your heart the way it is," he whispered softly. "Your greatest gift is not something that I have given you, but something you have let yourself discover. I have never been prouder than anyone else before in my life. You have truly made me a very happy person."
Jianyu leaned back, his fingers absently smoothing across the cool metal of the hawk at his throat. It would be a token now, like the tattoo that Huang would receive, of their bond towards each other. The meaning felt heavy, but it was a comfortable weight, not a painful one.
He let out a small, slightly sheepish laugh at Huang's anger, and his eyes widened just the smallest bit when the younger man leaned forward, touching their lips together briefly; Huang was not known for being physically affectionate. However, it was refreshing, and an amused smile crossed Jianyu's face.
"I will remember that the next time I have a problem with a future lover." he said and then, not giving Huang time to move away, stood and kissed him back, light and quick, laughing as he reached a hand up, touching his fingers briefly to the side of Huang's face. "Your confidence makes me relaxed, Huang-Fu. I am pleased to see you are that protective of me."
He had stood because Huang had, gesturing for them to take a walk, but Jianyu's face flushed a deep red as he registered the rest of what his student had said. He turned away, a hand covering his mouth.
"Er..." he said, blushing so furiously that he could almost feel the heat radiating from his cheeks. "That, and er....my lover...
"It was a man, not a woman. My lover was male."

Huang smiled just as proudly at his master as he knew Jianyu was smiling at him now. And was a slight bit embarrassed and greatly amused that Jianyu had taken his kiss in stride returning the favor. It was funny because in truth, before Huang would've blushed and easily gained a fever from just the thought! Now he was comfortable with Jianyu about it, and on the inside just a little, Huang was picking up Jianyu's oblivious tendencies with people. but so far it just seemed that way with Jianyu himself.
"Glad to make you proud Master, I want you to be able and point to me and say," Huang stood straight and tried to mimic Jianyu's serious tone of voice, "There you see that man, he was the greatest Student I took on!" Huang laughed a little before settling down and fell into a steady rhythm with Jianyu's pace. Both had gotten up, leaving a tip for the waitress and exiting the cafe.
Huang waited till they were a good distance before sighing. "I should've figured that you would be ensnared by a man. Who was he? Somebody I know of? Does this mean I can actually attempt to beat him up?" Huang joked as he processed the knowledge that not only did his master fall in love with a man, but had his heart broken by one. It was a negative thought, but Huang let it drift into his mind as he thought of poor Jianyu's situation compared to his own. Was there no hope for a male to love another male?
"Did he make you happy Jianyu?" Huang looked over at his master as they walked together. He didn't want to pry, but he wanted to understand. And if he could understand maybe he would learn something from his master and apply it to his own situation. Though he wasn't sure if Jianyu thought they were close enough for that talk yet.

Jianyu let out a snort of amusement, leaving a bit of money for the waitress before following Huang from the cafe, easily falling into step with the younger man. Outside it was warm and bright, the sun spreading orangey gold across the shop fronts and street, giving everything a sort of glow.
"You are the greatest student I've ever taken on." Jianyu said, then added somewhat cheekily "That being said, you are the only student I have ever taken on. However, you will always be the greatest, so there is no need to worry about making me proud. You already do that."
The two of them fell into silence as they walked further away, neither one speaking until Huang said quietly "I should've figured that you would be ensnared by a man. Who was he? Somebody I know of? Does this mean I can actually attempt to beat him up?"
Jianyu felt his face burn a bright red, heating up almost to the point where it was unbearable. He pressed the back of his hand to his mouth, closing his eyes briefly. Perhaps he should have expected that Huang of all people would not have judged him as harshly as he had expected; after all, his student had just confessed to him that he was in love with a man. Somewhere, irrationally, Jianyu had wanted to put up a perfect front for Huang; someone that the young man could respect and admire, and in his mind Jianyu had believed that falling in love with another man might taint that image. However, it was obvious that he had underestimated his closest friend too much; Huang's heart was large, his mind calm, and he had accepted it with grace.
"I...I am not certain you know him," Jianyu said, his hand muffling his words slightly. "His name...is Bataar. Bataar Jaoret."
He was quiet for a moment. Did he make me happy? Jianyu thought, tilting his head upwards towards the sky. It was bright - almost too bright and he closed his eye briefly, breathing in deeply.
"Yes." Jianyu answered softly after a moment, a small smile flitting across his face. "Yes, Huang he did. He made me very happy."
Until the end, that is, Jianyu thought, and flinched visibly at the memory. He could still recall the blood on Bataar's sword, see the anger and hatred in those dark eyes of his.
"Ahhhhh, Huang," Jianyu breathed quietly with a sigh, dropping his gaze. "Why are we such fools for the happiness our hearts?"

Huang smiled cockily, the first time such a expression had come on his face as he clapped Jianyu on the back. He was truly happy that Jianyu had accepted him as he was and truthfully, Huang was glad that he had someone he could rely on like his master.
No one could quite understand how much Jianyu had touched Huang and in doing so, made it so easy for Huang to start developing his own self. Even if, and sometimes it did happen, He cursed Jianyu for unlocking the feelings that he had tried to keep buried inside him. To hear that Jianyu was truly proud, helped Huang realize that maybe in the furute, he would become the person that most people would be proud of.
Ah, his thoughts always centered about how much Jianyu had done for them. Returning from his dream world, Huang turned to look at his master and noticed the slight blush on his face. Concerned he reached over and put his hand on Jianyu's forhead.
"Are you feeling sick? Your flushing?" Huang stared before pulling his hand back. They had paused in the street now. As Jianyu reveled his love of the past, Huang could feel his stomach churn.
"Ba....Bataar was your lover?" Huang said it so quietly, in such a small voice that he was sure Jianyu wouldn't hear. Oh Goddess, Huang thought, Bataar was the only man that had ever put the fear of death in Huang's body, and in doing so had made a complete fool out of Huang at their last encounter. To know that Jianyu had dated such a beast didn't diminish his image of Jianyu, but his image of Bataar and made him even more scared for his master. If not a little scared for himself. Bataar currently had two ups on both Huang and Jianyu and that worried him.
"Ah...." Huang paced around his master now in nervousness. He couldn't comprehend the relationship and in doing so was almost on his way to confusing himself. His mind was reeling with so many possible problems that this information could lead to.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH." Huang slapped his hand on his forehead and then pointed at Jianyu, "I don't know Jianyu, I am still trying to learn all the differences of emotions I have now, I cannot even to begin to process why are emotions effect us so greatly." Huang sighed before he came over and placed his hands on Jianyu's shoulders before headbutting him. It was odd move, painfully odd and it made Huang dizzy but he really need to clear his mind and he always seemed to do it better with pain.
"Let's stop thinking about it for awhile." Huang gripped his now throbbing head before looking around for a place to sit while his head spun.

It was somewhat difficult to comprehend just how vulnerable Jianyu felt at the current moment. He was revealing things to Huang-Fu that he had never dared to tell anyone else before, let alone to his own student, and it was a hard thing to grasp. His face felt hot, but Huang's cool hand pressing against his forehead soothed him a bit. Jianyu managed to give him a wan smile.
"No," he said. "No, I am fine. I am not ill. Just...tired." Jianyu tilted his head a bit, touching the back of his hand to Huang's face briefly. "You have a habit of making me reveal too much, Huang-Fu. But it is not a bad thing; on the contrary, I believe it helps me to face things I normally would not wish to. It is just a little...embarrassing on my behalf. Letting you know that your master is not exactly as wise and in control as you think he is."
His face burned hotter when he saw Huang's face pale at Bataar's name, and Jianyu felt a swooping sensation in his stomach. "Yes," he answered quietly, so quietly that his voice was barely audible. Even he could sense the horror in Huang's voice, hear the barely restrained surprise and fright. He did not know what it was that had made Huang afraid of Bataar, but it was obvious that something had happened between the two of them. It made Jianyu's heart twist painfully, and he turned away from his student, not wanting Huang to see his eyes close in anguish. However, his sadness quickly turned to shock when Huang's hands found his shoulders and all of a sudden he slammed their foreheads together.
A stinging pain reverberated throughout Jianyu's head and he stumbled backwards, dizzy and slightly disoriented as he raised a hand, fingers pressing against his forehead. He stared at Huang, his gaze confused, and bit his lip uncharacteristically, glancing around. There was a fountain nearby - the same fountain that seemed to be where everything took place - and Jianyu made his way over to it, sitting down and massaging his head.
"What was that for?" he asked, his voice tinged with bemusement, hurt, and a slight hint of pain. "Is it because I had a lover like Bataar? Is it because I have now singlehandedly ruined the image you have had in your head of me?"

Huang smiled at Jianyu sincerely. "Telling me things does not diminish any image that you believe I have of you. I am open with you, and when your Open with me, It makes me believe we are more like Xiong Di." Huang used the Chinese word for brothers knowing his master would understand him.
"You should rest more." Huang sighed as they exchanged touches before the headbutt that sent him and Jianyu reeling.
Quite honestly, it had been the craziest thing he had ever done as he head continued to swim, objects become twisted as his head tried to recover from the disorientation.
"That was for making me think of things I didn't want to think of." Huang accused as he followed his master over to the fountain, "I was trying to stop thinking and it almost worked." Huang sighed as he sat next to his master, rubbing the spot where he had forced their connected heads together and then turned to frown at Jianyu.
"Ah, Your free to have any lover you want Jianyu. It just happens that your lover was, well, a enemy I never defeated and that uh...." Huang flushed in embarrassment as he remembered what the fighter had done to Huang, holding him with barely any life left, Bataar had demanded that Huang for his freedom would have to pay with his body. As in....well you know..that stuff. Huang shifted uncomfortably debating whether to tell Jianyu that fact. Yeah, no wasn't going to happen. It was embarrassing enough to tell even Huang himself, and to be honest, he wasn't even sure if Bataar had been joking or not.
Well whatever Bataar's intentions at the time had been, It had caused one major effect anyways. Severely damaging Huang's ego and the mere sound of Bataar's name still caused him to pale inconsiderably.
"You have....singlehandedly....brought back my worst nightmare." Huang shoved Jianyu before resting his head on his hands held up by his knees, "You can't really ruin the image I have of you....especially after the night we spent in the forest. I think if I can accept your childish fear of ghost..." Huang slanted a look at Jianyu before continuing, "Then surely I can get past you and....the beast being together."

His head hurt. Jianyu sighed, running a hand through his hair. He was relieved to hear that his student's opinion of him had not diminished, but the unexpectedly violent maneuver he had pulled was making him slightly dizzy. "My apologies," he said quietly, rubbing his forehead. "I am not one to promote thinking on things that one does not wish to."
Jianyu wasn't particularly surprised to hear that Bataar had beaten Huang-Fu. After, the Mongol was almost annoyingly strong, and had a tendency to be slightly obnoxious. The redness of Huang's face implied something else as well, which Jianyu did not prefer to think about. It was unlikely that they had actually done anything, but he knew Bataar well enough to know that he had probably threatened Huang in some form or another.
"The idiot," Jianyu said aloud, exasperation lacing his tone. "He never learns."
Reaching out, he laid a hand atop Huang's head, gently brushing through his hair. A part of him could still not quite take in that his student was a Fighter now, and he felt more proud than he had felt in a long time.
"I am sorry that I made you recall things you did not wish to," he said softly, dropping his hand. "Just know that I will try and take away your pain as much as you will let me."
Running a hand through his hair, Jianyu leaned over, resting his head on Huang's shoulder. Around them were quick footsteps, loud voices, raucous laughter, the pitter pattering of little children, the clang of tools, the scent of fire. But right here, it was quiet, master and student, close friend to close friend, and Jianyu would enjoy it just a little bit longer.
"Thank you, Huang."

Huang quirked his face at Jianyu and then sighed. "Then you should stop thinking of your horrible thoughts." Huang frowned before sighing again. As they sat there together, calm and peaceful, Huang felt truly at peace with himself and with Jianyu.
It was a quiet day for both of them. A Celebration of their good news, the death of terrible news and two friends that connected. And that was how it was suppose to be for now. Huang wouldn't have any other way.
"No...Thank you Jianyu." Huang whispered.
