Do you know how to speak Keigo?
I am currently learning it in Japanese class, and for the most part we seem to be doing all right. Kids are lucky that they don't have to use it though.

For those of you who don't know apparently Keigo is a formal speech used by "members of society" aka adults to express respect. You use it for people who directly help you such as customers, teachers and your primary care doctor.

Interesting ne? heart

Doesn't that include the use of desu, and the ~imasu/~masu forms? And also kudasai... ^^

And yeah, it is really interesting. Japanese has a lot of ways to express respect when hey are talking. Not like in my language. All we have to add is the word "po" in the sentence, and you're already respectful. sweatdrop

Well you know, the Japanese are all about respect and politeness. And if you ever visit Japan it's probably better to learn the polite way to speak so you don't accidentally piss any of them off. Nothing like accidental rudeness to ruin your day!

Not according to sensei or the University of Hawaii program. Keigo is only for members of society (aka Adults) where as children as well as High school students are required to use desu, and the ~imasu/~masu forms as well as kudasai. I wish it was as easy as adding something like "po"!
