It was a fairly calm day as far as this particular thief was concerned. That was good enough for him too really as there always needed to be some peaceful breaks between some of the more hectic days. He took a bit of a detour on reaching his next destination by going on through the woods near where the Kokiri Village was supposed to be.
There was no specific reason why he took the detour, but in a sense he wanted to take the 'scenic' route. He wasn't in any hurry anyway, so why not?
From not far behind, Vol floated on to follow his pactmaker. The maonui didn't mind the long route either for that matter. Having just come from a rockier area of Hyrule, the forest environment was actually kind of nice to be in. Though he couldn't help but think of how flammable this place was compared to the mountains. One thing though, he was starting to get pretty hungry.
"I'm getting hungry, think we could stop for some food?" rumbled Vol.
"Hm.. it might not be a bad idea," replied Blade, considering the option. He was starting to get a little peckish himself, though the esper was known to have a greater appetite. At least he was content with gulping down rocks; it made things a little easier on him in terms of supplies.
With a toothy grin, Vol went on off to try and find a sizable rock he could munch on.

A man riding a Goron galloped slowly across the sky. They appeared to be chased by a giant Maonui.
"Oh look, and that one looks like a butterfly!" Soti craned her arm up to indicate the cloud-butterfly also chasing the man/Goron cloud. A stiff breeze picked up and smeared the Maonui into a vague flower-shape.
"I think it's more of a bird..." Pinkin landed on Soti's outstretched hand, peering through the opening in the tree canopy. More clouds drifted into their patch of sky, patterning the blue sky.
"No way, the wings aren't long enough." Letting her hand drop heavily, Soti crossed her eyes to look at the fairy fluttering down to her forehead. "Totally a butterfly. Or a fairy." Silence fell between the two as they continued to stare at the sky. A horse, a boot, and two teddy bears drifted slowly through the sunlight. Soti sighed and sat up suddenly, dislodging Pinkin from her seat. "I'm bored. Lets see if any of the Koroks are out." Hopping nimbly down from the fallen log, she trotted to the nearest thicket and peered in. "Helloooooo?" Seeing nothing in the underbrush, something bright caught her eye through the trees. Ducking down immediately, Pinkin followed with a surprised squeak. It was no Kokiri, that was obvious, and certainly no Korok. It was... "A Maonui..." Soti breathed in shock. A fiery red one, and Soti leaned around the brush to get a better look. "I wonder if it's wild..."
"Soti, you get back behind this bush, it could be dangerous!" Pinkin hissed in anxiety, attempted to pull at Soti's collar.

While Vol went off to find his 'food', Blade set his bag down to dig out a few trail rations. Seeing how he wasn't as hungry as the big guy, he just needed something light to keep going. Normally he'd be fine with waiting longer but he may as well eat something now while they were taking a break from the road.
The Maonui did find a tasty looking stone as he was out and about, but before he could pick it up, he heard what sounded like voices nearby. They didn't sound like his pact maker at all, so he looked up to try and see who they were. Initially he saw nothing, but then he caught sight of the face of a girl peeking out from around a bush.
"You don't need to hide," he snorted at her. For now he didn't see the fairy that accompanied her. The girl looked like she could be a Kokiri but he really didn't see enough of her to know. It didn't matter much if she was a Kokiri or a young Hylian though.
After watching her for a little longer, he went back to examine the stone by him. Forest rocks always tasted differently than the ones on the mountain, which was what he preferred. But he couldn't be too choosy.

Soti gasped and ducked back down when the Maonui actually addressed her. Did it, possibly a he, want to talk to her? If he was wild...did he want to make a pact? Soti looked wildly at Pinkin who flitted about her head in a panic. Was this how pacts were made, just hanging about and talking in the forest? She didn't particularly want an esper, especially not one so fiery.
"Soti, don't you dare go over there, you don't know who that is, or if he's dangerous-"
Biting her lip, Soti wondered if he knew what kind of a danger he was, running about practically on fire, in the middle of the woods. Didn't seem to be any danger to her though...
Standing up slowly, ignoring Pinkin's hissed warnings, she slowly moved around the bush, stopping behind a small tree. Pinkin landed on her shoulder. "Don't you dare get any closer, young lady..." Soti rolled her eyes and, holding onto the tree, leaned around it and watched the Maonui once more. He was searching the ground, looking interested in a particular rock. Did he leave something underneath it?
"Ummm, did you lose something?"

The girl ducked back and away when he had spoken up. A low rumble came from the back of his throat, mostly out of agitation since he had just said she didn't need to hide. Sometimes he underestimated how intimidating he may look, being a big fiery dragon-type creature. While it was amusing to see people's wariness of him, it did get a little tiresome at times.
But before long, she reappeared, and this time with a fairy. So she was a Kokiri indeed. His bright blue eyes settled on the two briefly before he looked back down to examine a pair of stones. Vol was more or less trying to figure out which of the two he wanted, though he may just end up grabbing both.
"No. I'm seeking my meal," he replied as he went ahead and lifted up one of the rocks. Giving it a quick sniff, he put his attention back to the Kokiri and fairy pair, "I don't suppose you'd have any suggestions, would you?"
Having had his snack, Blade was now just waiting for Vol to return. He wasn't sure if he was going to bring his food back with him, or just eat it on the spot. In the case of the latter, he might have to go try and hunt down the big guy. It at least wouldn't be too hard to spot the Maonui in the forest.

"Uhhhh..." Did he just sniff that rock? Soti glanced at Pinkin, who's warnings had fallen silent in the new company. She perched in the hollow between Soti's shoulder and neck, hmph-ing irritably at having been ignored. Maybe he was trying to pick up a trail, or smelling for moss, or (oh Great Deku, she hoped not) somehow marking his hunting territory. Swallowing, she went with the most pleasant of the possibilities.
"Well, if your looking for grubs, there's better ones under the bigger rocks. They don't usually hide under small rocks." Swallowing again, she glanced around, hoping the creatures of the forest, especially the smaller Koroks, had the luck to stay away for the moment. "There's really no...creatures in this part of the forest for you to...eat."
Pinkin gave a muffled whine into Soti's collar and Soti suddenly wish Pinkin could fly off and warn the forest. A fiery Maonui out and about looking for a meal? She certainly didn't know how much they ate; an innocent Korok could make a nice little bedtime snack for him.

Grubs didn't sound all too appealing. For one thing they were awfully small so he'd have to eat quite a bit of them to really fill himself up.
"I know there aren't," he replied, regarding the creatures bit. He hadn't seen or really smelled any small furry woodland creatures around, but in a way he wasn't really looking for them either. At the moment he was feeling a little lazy. Rocks never ran away. Vol decided to go ahead with the rock in hand and started to chew on it.
The flavor wasn't too bad, but it could be better. Oh well; he was hungry so he was going to go ahead with it.
"Mph. Good enough I suppose."
It was taking the Maonui awhile to return, so Blade decided to go ahead and try and find him. The thief went off in the direction he recalled seeing Vol leave in and kept an eye out for that bright body of his.

Shock wasn't quite a strong enough word to describe Soti's feelings in that moment. The Maonui...was eating...a rock. An outright rock. Munching on it like it was an apple. Even Pinkin was perched incredulously on Soti's head, watching the affair. Did all Maonui's eat rocks? Soti resolved to ask an elder when she got back to the village. Slowly, she stuck her thumb out to indicate the north end of the forest behind her. "There's some pretty bluish rocks just north of here, if they would taste any better?" Or perhaps all rocks tasted the same. Soti had always assumed they would, kindof like dirt.
"Did you come here just for our rocks?" That would be something. Maonui's traveling from all over the world to taste the Kokiri forest's gourmet rocks. Boulders, gravel, pebbles served on a bed of fallen leaves. Did they eat leaves too? Soti's mind began to drift and she shook her head, pulling herself back to the situation at hand. Maonui-catered restaurant plans could wait until later.

Swallowing the last bits of that one rock, Vol looked at the Kokiri girl as she mentioned some bluish rocks to the north. Now that sounded interesting. He couldn't say he had ever really eaten a blue rock before. Before he went to investigate, he shook his head at the question she had asked.
"My pactmaker and I are passing through. We're currently taking a quick break for some food," he said.
As if on cue, Blade came wandering into the area. He had spotted the fiery Maonui a little while back so he was just making his way over towards him. When he arrived, he noticed the Kokiri and fairy nearby.
"Oh, hello there," he blinked.

Soti's dreams of a Maonui restaurant were immediately dashed. Plenty of travelers passed through the Kokiri forest, but it didn't seem any were all that interested in their rocks. She suddenly wondered if his pactmaker ate rocks as well. Opening her mouth to ask him so, Pinkin suddenly buzzed her wings fiercely against Soti's neck. She immediately looked up to see a man, possibly Hylian, weaving through the trees towards them. He was very tall, and dressed in all black. Soti suddenly wondered if he ran around like that hoping to be camouflaged at night.
"Um, hi. We were just, um, talking." She pointed vaguely at the Maonui. Were there rules against talking to other people's espers? Hopefully the pactmaker, assuming this was him, didn't think she was trying to steal him away. Could that even be done? What if this man was an esper too, and only looked like a man. She figured Pinkin might be able to tell, but she wouldn't say anything while these two were still around.
"Are you looking for rocks too?"

"Hm? No. I was just looking for Vol, here," replied Blade while looking over the Kokiri. Perhaps it was just him, but she seemed to be a little wary of him. Then again, maybe she just wasn't too used to dealing with espers or non-Kokiri folk in these woods. Out of the corner of his eyes, he noticed the Maonui looking off towards the north.
Vol was starting to move again before his pact maker could really say anything else, hoping to find these blue rocks that the girl had mentioned. He could see a glimmer of the color some distance away.
"Where are you going?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. Apparently something had caught his attention.
"The kokiri mentioned blueish rocks around here. I think I see one... I would like to have a sample of that," Vol replied with a nod.
Watching him go off, the thief rubbed the back of his neck and shook his head. Right now it seemed that the Maunui had quite the one-track mind right about now. He had a tendency to get like that whenever he was hungry enough.
"I uh... hope you don't mind him eating here?" Blade asked the Kokiri girl. He knew that the forest was pretty important to them, but he wasn't quite certain if that included the rocks... seeing how rocks weren't actually alive.
