Gaia Name: LittleButterfly

Character Name: Zian

Race: Beastial

Class: Apprentice warrior.

Subtype: Avian

Element: Heat

Gender: Male

Age: 18 (adult)

Family: Zian's family is extended and close-knit, as are most of the families in his tribe. His mother, Silvri comes from a long line of hunters, whereas his father Ludo is known for being the best weaver in the tribe (and often sells what he creates himself). They remain close to Zian's paternal grandmother Deela and his maternal uncle Kidan, and Zian played with several of his cousins often when he was younger.

History: Zian's parents wanted a large family, but complications at Zian's birth ensured that he would be their only child. His mother, Silvri, became deeply and sometimes fiercely protective as a result, always looking out to make sure nothing would happen to him. His father Ludo was a bit calmer and more soft-spoken, telling Zian what he knew of the outside world from his sales trips, so the boy would not grow up completely isolated from everything save his tribe.

As he grew, Zian often played with his cousins, mostly the children of his uncle Kidan. Coming from his mother's side of the family, a lot of them were interested in becoming hunters when they grew up. Zian enjoyed joining in their pretend-warrior games (as much as his mother would let him), but he never became particularly close to any of his cousins; he always felt that he was a bit different from them. While he had his mother's strong spirit, he'd also inherited a bit of his father's quieter wisdom, and the combination of this, his mother's protectiveness, and his father's stories gave him a need for independance and new experiences that he could never quite vocalize. He began to rebel, and not in a healthy teenager sort of way - instead he pulled pranks and slacked off from his duties, wasting both his physical and mental potential.

However, he still liked to practice at some of the old combat games and basic training with weapons (soon finding he preferred the spear), and this is how an older warrior-woman named Linz stumbled upon him and realized his potential. After speaking to him for a bit and giving him some tips on his form, she realized how intelligent, disciplined, and talented he could be in spite of his current rebelliousness. She slowly began to befriend the boy as he came of age, gradually teaching him different mental and physical skills that would make him a warrior. Zian soon was informed of her intentions, and found that even with his lack of patience he enjoyed the training - he was more thoughtful than the average fighter or hunter, and enjoyed cultivating his mind along with his body. However, discipline was still something he needed to learn.

Present: Zian has been apprenticed to Linz for two years now (having started his training a little bit late), and has slowly grown less rebellious and increasingly skilled. His father vastly approves of his training, while his mother is more wary but is growing to realize that her boy is grown up now and is growing able to take care of himself.
Recognizing how cut-off Zian feels from the rest of the world, seeing only the tribe's stable camp all his life, Linz has found it more than appropriate to send him off to the festival in Terralusk to see what he can learn from the sights, sounds, and people there. She's told him to consider it as part of his training.

Personality: Zian is still a bit of a rebel, though he's slowly learning the right times to listen to authority under Linz's care. He's still very likely to question why he must do what he's told, though, unless refusing would put him in some severe danger. If he thinks something is deeply unjust, he'll protest against it with very little regard for the trouble he'll get in.
Zian definately has a moral code, though - he'd never do something that would truly put another person in danger, and he's secretly more afraid than he'd ever admit of being a complete disappointment to his family or his tribe. In spite of his frustrations with how limited his life has been, he still loves his family and wants to make them proud.
Zian's a very intelligent young man, and actually has the potential to be quite focused and driven with enough training. He also has his mother's spirited nature, and her protectiveness of others - it's hard to make a friend of him, but once you do he's loyal until the day he dies. He's passionate, but not expressive; he feels his feelings deeply, but he's very introverted and doesn't often express them unless it's to someone he trusts - usually Linz.

Appearance: Zian looks like some kind of crane or heron in form, everythig about him tall and slender, with large and powerful wing-arms. His neck is elongated, and his beak is thin and sharp. Zian's headfeathers fall to his shoulders, a fiery red in color, but are often tied back when he's practicing. His eyes are an expressive dark blue, that can often display his thoughtfulness and intelligence.
The rest of Zian's feathers are covered in various shades of darker red and brown. The only clothing he wears tends to be a loincloth of feathers that have been shed from the wings of other bestials in the tribe, covering his extremities while still being loose and free enough for battle. If allowed at the festival, he'll keep his spear strapped to his back in a sheath.

Festival Log - Day 1

Dear Journal, or whatever you are,
I'm sitting on a bench near some merchant stalls in Terralusk, realizing I should have probably gotten here at least a day earlier. Everyone's set up already, and everything's so crowded. There's no way I'm going to see enough of the festival before it's time to pack up.

Anyway, Linz assigned this journal-thing to me. She told me to keep track of my experiences, andd write down what I think, feel, and learn. Of course, she knows I'm terrible at stuff like that. And that I get bored with it really fast.

You hear that, old woman? I resent this! Heh.

All kidding aside, there are so many things to buy and see and do here that it's exhausting. More kinds of food than I ever knew existed, jewelry like nothing we have back at the camp. Elves, humans, faeries, new and different kinds of beastials. If Father hadn't told me the stories he did, I'd probably be waving my spear at everything and making panicked cawing noises.

Not really, of course, but it's hard not to feel sort of...backward. If you know what I mean, old woman.

I'll write more when something happens.

2.12.05

(Author's Note: Apologies for this post being somewhat belated, but I alluded to it in the RP and I didn't want to not put anything down.

Also, Zian has the tendency to be kind of sarcastic and cynical. Please, nobody take it personally. I think you're all great. heart )

Dear Journal-thing,
So far, the festival has been kind of uneventful. But I have my orders, so here's what I've observed:

- A human woman even skinnier than me strumming something with strings. And singing, nicely. And rhyming. Badly.

- A beastial that...well, let's just say I have no clue what she is. She seems like a kid. With plates of armor strapped to her. I'm imagining all kinds of creepy things about a kid militia and I'm probably getting them wrong.

- Really sparkly baubles. It seems like it's everywhere - gem-studded jewelry and weird artifacts and ugly statues. And the people selling them kind of look at you like they want to eat you. Yeah, I know why. It doesn't stop it from making me nervous.

I feel kind of like a recluse; I haven't really talked to anyone yet and I haven't even loosened up to do any dancing at night. I just don't know what I'm supposed to say. At the camp it's different; everyone's known each other their whole lives. I never realized how comforting that is. Now I'm not sure what to do with myself.
I mean, what do I say? "Hi, you look weird, mind if I stare at you a bit?" I doubt they'd be flattered.

(compiled from 2.12.05)

A sketching elf, and a bestial... she looked tough, but by the way she was inspecting the shrubbary Miranda doubted she was a fighter. She sighed, making herself more comfortable on the edge of the fountain and looking over the crowds. She crossed her legs, wondering if there was a horse selling stall somewhere near.

Zian had spent a good few hours people-watching, fascinated by the many varieties of elves, the tiny marvels that were their faeries, the types of bestials that he'd never seen in his tribe before. (He was particularly intrigued by Spade, a species of beast that he hadn't even heard about in the stories his father spun as easily as he wove thread.) Awkwardness kept him from approaching any of them, though.
"I mean, what do I say?" he wrote in his journal at one point. "'Hi, you look weird, mind if I stare at you for a bit?' They probably wouldn't be flattered."
He scans the merchant carts now, especially fascinated by the jewelry in all its finery; that kind of adornment was much more rare among the hunters of his tribe.
If Zian catches Miranda's eye, she may very well notice muscles beneath his feathers and a lean, strong look to him - a warrior who's been training for two years straight now and knows how to use a spear.

"Hmm..." Miranda said quietly, her eyes falling on a bird bestial. Strong, but young. And with the delicate leanness of his build he would only be able to fight certain types effectively. And that would depend on his speed, as well as the strength of his opponent. He moved like a fighter, but oh so very young! Even for a bestial!
She sighed, wishing he had a few years on him. She would approch him if she found no one else. Such potential, after all! But before she did she wished to observe him for a while, as well as the others. At his age he was no doubt still training. To send him into the ring with experienced brawlers at this time seemed a little premature.
