Lumear: [picks absently at one of his cuts]

In her awkward stumbling through the crowd, it wasn't a surprise to Anja when she caught sight of a green foxtaur who was equally painted for the occasion. However, upon approaching the male, she noticed that the cuts on his skin weren't as false as the blood on her own pelt. Without a second thought, she gasped, the candy-covered apple falling to the ground and quickly being devoured by the crowd of feet, and rushed to his side, ghosting her hands over one or two of the wounds, eyes looking almost tearful. "Oh- Oh my goodness!! What happened?!"

Lumear jumped at the sudden entrance of a concerned female, staring at her for a moment in attempt to get his bearings. "O-oh this?.. It's nothing.. I'm always hurt in one way or another.." He wasn't used to anyone worrying over him, especially not a total stranger.

And yet, Anja was completely oblivious to her motherly urges being all that strange. Certainly it wasn't anything she was unused to, herself, and she therefor couldn't imagine such a thing being strange for someone else. Of course, there was a moment where she glanced back toward where her treat had been trampled into the ground and appeared, for a moment, crestfallen. It wasn't often she got treats such as those and she was a bit sad that it had been wasted. Her attention soon turned back to the foxtaur, ears tipping back as she glanced up at him sadly. "Always? Hurt like this, all over yourself?!" she cried, astonished that anyone was ever that hurt, let alone all the time! "That's terrible!!"

Lumear couldn't help but blush a little at her frantic concern. He wanted to comfort her when she looked a little sad, not understanding why it was such a big deal to have some minor scratches. "I've had worse before.. this really isn't that bad.." his ears flicked a bit shyly.

Anja remained completely oblivious to the embarrassment of the male, pressing her hands to the mouth. "You've had worse?! Worse than this?! Oh my goodness, that's so awful!!" she squeaked, her eyes welled up with tears. She'd never in her life experienced more than a bruise or a scratch, let alone even a single cut. Something worse than many of them, that- that was so terrible!! Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around the male's shoulders and squeezed him comfortingly, looking sad when she pulled back. "I'm so sorry!! Is there anything I can do to help?"

Lumear hesitantly placed a not-bloody hand on her cheek, trying to hold her steady for a moment. "I'm all right.." he held eye contact with her. "Do you know how to bandage wounds?" He was calm, wondering what all was going through the pale female's mind.

Anja smiled sweetly at the male as her cheek was cupped, looking like the innocent little girl that she still was and sighed softly. "You probably are... I'm sorry, Sir. I'm just... unaccustomed to people with so many wounds! I've never been hurt that much..." she murmured, voice steadily getting a bit quieter, the girl feeling as though she'd said too much. The question had her silver eyes blinking and she thought for a brief moment before flushing faintly, her ears tipping back. "Oh... well, I do, but I'm not very good at it, and I haven't any supplies to do so, at least, none with me."

Lumear smiled a little at her. "I'm not used to being worried over.. so I think it's fair for both of us. My name is Lumear.." he looked down at his grotesque appearance. "A few of them are paint.. the ones on my rib cage are, at least.." he attempted to console her, unsure how well it would help. "They're not too bad.. we can manage without unless you want to try something.."

Anja smiled and giggled sweetly behind one of her pale hands, happiness enough to reach even her eyes. "I suppose it is fair," she replied kindly, nodding her head in a semi-bow of greeting. "And my name is Anja. It's a pleasure to meet you, Lumear." She chuckled a bit, smiling at him as she looked over his body paint. In truly was quite good, much as she'd prided her own on being, though it did definitely have a creepy feel to it. "M-most of mine is, too," she murmured, forcing a smile through it. After all, even the paint on her face was simply paint; she had yet for her own red tears to take its place. At the suggestion, she tipped her head gently. "Something? What something would you suggest?"

Lumear smiled a little when she gave her his name, never being one for big and happy reactions. He had become a little reserved.. "It's my pleasure, Anja." he studied her paint, wondering why she added 'most of it'. "We could always wander the festival. Maybe they'll have bandages of some sort."

Anja only brightened further, both at the slight smile on her new friend's face, and the suggestion of going through the festival more. "Oh, that would be wonderful!! For bandages, of course, but, well, you see..." she stammered awkwardly, smiling and blushing faintly as she spoke, though the colouration was well-hidden by the red paint on her face. "When I was younger, I was never given the chance to go to the festival; I'm very excited to see the events and peddlers and such.

Lumear smiled, offering his less damaged arm to the other painted 'taur. "Then perhaps we should look around the festival while we're at it. You have a chance now." His mood seemed to have picked up a bit from being around the cheerful innocent. "Some 'taurs will try to give you a scare, though, and a few of the booths may be less than pleasant.." he wanted to give her a fair warning before escorting her off into unknown territory.

Anja smiled, blushing just a bit more as the arm was offered to him. Yet she didn't allow her slight embarrassment to hinder her movements as she stepped forward and gently wrapped her slim hands around the crook of his arm, smiling happily as her tail flicked behind her just a bit. She nodded in whole-hearted agreement, obviously excited, her ears standing stock-straight on the top of her head. "Oh yes! This will be so much fun!!"

When they started into the crowd, she listened closely to his warning. Idly, her pale grey eyes flicked back toward the male, ears tipping back just a bit. "O-oh, they will? My goodness... that doesn't seem very kind of them," she noted, glaring slightly at the idea of people trying to scare others. It was so mean!! "At least I have you here to protect me, or at least warn me, right?"

Lumear smiled a little at the cattaur on his arm. "I promise I'll protect you, Anja," he kept his eyes locked forward. "I won't let any of them scare you." He started to lead her to a candied apple booth, thinking she would like the sweets. "Scaring others just comes with the season for some, I'm afraid.."

"I think you'll like this one. These are special treats only made around this time of year. They're called candied apples. They can have caramel, nuts.. really almost anything you want on them." He seemed very pleased at remembering these.

Anja smiled happily, keeping her arms wrapped firmly around the arm of of her current guide. She blushed prettily at his promise, tail flicking gently. She nodded in approval at his continuing promises and smiled, ears perked up happily. On the comment about this time of the season, she gently flicked her ears back, heaving a soft sigh and shaking her head. "I don't like how mean people seem to be. Even if it's the season, that seems like a silly excuse. Why can't people just be nice to each other...?"

She followed the foxtaur to the caramel apple stand and her face immediately brightened quite a bit, forgetting about the idea that people might be sneaking around to scare her. "Oh! I had one of these!! Well... kind of," she said, giggling behind her free hand as she glanced up at the strong male standing beside her. "I dropped it in surprise when I saw you; I-I was worried, and Mama always said that I get really forgetful when I fret. Especially when it comes to things I'm holding."

Lumear smiled at the female's cute nature. "I'm sorry I made you drop your apple. I didn't mean to worry you... I'll do my best not to let you forget anything, too." He smiled kindly. "Let me make it up to you. What would you like on your apple? You can have anything. The festival will be my treat." Anja certainly was quite innocent, trusting him shortly after meeting him. Had he been a crueler 'taur, she could be in a very bad situation. He frowned at the thought, pushing it from his mind. He would have fun, enjoying the night with a sweet girl, which was quite nice to have on his arm. He hadn't been so close to someone in a while.

The smile on Lumear's face was apparently contagious, as it pulled the corners of her own mouth into a joyful look, showing off pointed cat teeth. A giggle passed her lips at the offer to make sure that she didn't forget anything, long tail sweeping sheepishly behind her. "Oh, you don't have to, Lumear. Mama says that I should keep track of things myself, or I'll end up relying on other people and will never end up remembering for myself!" she replied enthusiastically, the faint flush still overtaking her peachy cheeks.

The selfless offer made her gasp, free hand going to her mouth yet again, hiding the perfect little 'o' made by her lips. "Will you really, truly?!" A childish grin spread across her face as she suddenly released the male's arm, bridging the last few steps between the couple and the cart, full moon eyes taking in every available option for her delicious concoction. She was all bliss and innocence as she chatted with the vendor, pointing out different confections and asking any question that popped into her head, tittering over every little thing. Her eyes were as wide as saucers as she watched the 'taur who ran the stand preparing her treat, skewering the apple and swirling it in hot caramel, making her claws knead at the ground beneath her feet in excitement.

The creation that ended up clutched between her hands looked like it was enough to put someone with a weak constitution into a diabetic coma. The caramel held pretzels, marshmallows, and a hearty dose of rainbow sprinkles, with a thin drizzle of chocolate covering it on all sides. One bite alone had her coming away with chocolate around the rim of her mouth, though she looked happy enough to cry. "Thank you so much, Lumear!" She paused with the apple halfway to her mouth before she extended it to her new friend. "Do- do you want a bite?"

Lumear had never seen someone so excited about anything, especially not something that seemed so simple as a candied apple. Calmly, he gave the vendor the required payment and stepped away with Anja so that others could get close to the stand. The creation the cattaur ordered interested him and, honestly, worried him a little. He'd never seen anything with so many sweets on it before. It amused him a little to see her offer him a bite with the apple already halfway in. But, not being one to shy away from new things, he leaned down and took a bite from the apple, right out of her hand.

As he straightened back up, the flavor that found his tongue was certainly delicious. The apple, mixed with so many different sweet flavors.. And a faint hint of salty.. The cattaur had some odd ideas with what should go on the apple, but it was really quite good. "Thank you for the bite, Anja. It's really good." The big foxtaur smiled, his tail swishing happily behind him.

Anja smiled, prancing after Lumear as he stepped away from the apple cart, heart fluttering from an excitement that she couldn't place. Pausing, she laid a small hand upon her chest, feeling the excited pulsing of her heart nestled within her ribcage. The smile on her face turned shaky at the feeling; her father had warned her up and down about all of the damage that could come to one's heart, and she wasn't like to take something like that lightly. Sharp little teeth gnawed at her lip, opalescent tail curling nervously around her ankles as she glanced up toward the large green male, wearing chocolate about the edge of her pale lips. "Would... you wouldn't mind if we sat down for a moment, would you? All this excitement, I fear... w-well, it's much more than I'm accustomed to."

Gingerly wrapping her free hand around his, she led the both of them to a near patch of grass off the cobblestone road, many other 'taur gathered in the same area, laughing and gossiping and curled together on blankets beneath the stars. The sight alone warmed her heart, making the girl squeeze her companion's hand; the moment she realized the action, her eyes grew wide and her cheeks grew red, a nervous giggle passing her lips. "Sorry, I-I was just feeling the... the moment, I think?" she looked quizzical when she finished speaking, tipping her head. "Is that what you call it? 'Feeling the moment'? Oh, it doesn't sound right, I don't think..."

Lumear was a bit concerned about his companion. He supported her as he followed her to the grassy place to sit. "It's all right, Anja. Don't worry. We can rest any time you need to.." The foxtaur's tone was soft as he spoke to her. He felt protective of her, and he quite enjoyed her company. Smiling, he gently wiped the chocolate from around her mouth with his thumb. "I'll take care of you."

When they sat down, he instinctively drew her a little closer to him, but not quite holding her. He didn't mind at all that she held and squeezed his hand. He didn't bother looking at the couples around them, he just spent most of his time watching her. He too could feel his heart rushing... "I understand.. It's a nice night, we're close, there's a lot of affection around us.." He touched her cheek, very lightly. "Anja... I think I am quite fond of you.." he felt odd admitting this to her, but he felt like he needed to get it out there. The cattaur filled him with a warmth he hadn't felt in quite some time.. and he wasn't sure if he'd ever see her after this night. So why not be brave? The worst he could do would be to end the night with her early. Even if she got upset with him, he would see that she made it safely home.. He shifted closer, carefully tipping her head up to plant a soft, short kiss on her lips, sweetened by the candy they'd both eaten. As he pulled back, he hoped that he hadn't made a poor choice.

Anja's ears twitched, flush growing as the foxtaur cleaned the area around her mouth. A pale hand found its way to her lips, wiping at a mess that was no longer there and feeling quite a child. Her tail ghosted across the grass, curling in nervous little spirals to either side, flicking away whenever it came in contact with another 'taur. With the way her silver eyes flitted here and there, she never noticed the way that Lumear's lingered on her form. She smiled when he spoke, eyes falling back upon his in the moment that his fingertips touched her cheek, a strange shiver coursing through her slim form.

"Y... y-you think so?" she stammered back, feeling like a parrot for her awkward, echoing question. By instinct, she leaned away when the green-hued male leaned toward her, but his lips caught her's before she could escape. Her eyes were as wide as the moon when he pulled away, the flush on her face building up again slowly, lips parted in a look of surprise. Slowly, her eyes found Lumear's again before a panicked little squeak passed her lips, making the cattaur quick to hide her face against her new companion's shoulder, lest he think that she didn't enjoy it. It was just so unexpected... She squirmed, a broad smile blossoming on her hidden face as she tried to muster the will to speak.

"Th... that was... n-nice..." she whispered. It wasn't a lie, but she was more anxious than she could remember being. Her mother had warned her about perverse and twisted men who would pretend to be kind, buy women things and whisper sweet nothings, only to do unspeakable things when they got you alone. Goosebumps prickled at the back of her neck and Anja sat back up to take another bite of her apple, glancing meekly toward the handsome Don Juan she'd discovered so recently. "We forgot to pick up bandages..."

Lumear smiled a little at her reaction of tucking herself against him. Gently, he played with her hair, unaware of the battle going on inside of her. He could feel the warmth of his own faint blush on his cheeks, and his heart pounding in his chest. He'd never so much as HELD a female, much less kissed one.. but the fact that kissing this one had given him so much warmth.. it made him incredibly happy. And she liked it, too! His tail wagged with his happiness, and he thought, maybe, he was falling for her...

Her quiet words reminding him of bandages brought him back to the world around them. "Oh. I guess I forgot about them." he glanced down at his injuries, already starting to close up and heal. He'd been leaving them alone in his time with Anja, which was also unusual. He usually continuously picked at them, made them bleed. Which was why he was so covered in scars.. "I'm sure we can still find some, if you want to accompany me still." He smiled, wanting her to stay by his side but not wanting to seem desperate.

Anja didn't understand the sudden flood of emotions within her and what she did understand, she didn't like. It was such a rush, but it was paralyzing in its ferocity, making her heart race and stop all at once, her breathing slow and fervent, body hot and cold all over. The fur on her haunches prickled upward with the feeling of his fingers in her hair, tail wrapping around one of her sides as she tried to get her thoughts in some semblance of order. She didn't know what this man could want of her, but she didn't sense any malcontent. Even so, she knew not to trust a man by his face as much as she shouldn't trust a book by its cover, and that meant that Lumear was as much of a threat as anyone. Her heart drummed in her chest and, the moment that she was given leave to do so, the pale girl was on her feet, holding out a hand to help her companion onto his.

"Of course! I-I haven't ever-- I mean, it's been a long time since I had a friend to spend time with, so the company would be very nice, thank you," she replied excitedly, flushing a little as she nearly revealed her lack of socializing these many years past. It wouldn't be good of her to scare him off so quickly, learning that he was the one friend she'd ever had; what would she look like then besides some closed-up spinster? Her tail twisted behind her as she helped the foxtaur up and smiled up at him, his natural height easily a head over her's. "Do... do you know where to get bandages here, in town? I've never... not really explored that kind'a stuff. Mama usually buys first aid stuff."

Lumear stood steady on his feet, though he had taken her hand just for an excuse to touch her again. He could feel her unease and began to wonder if he had made a mistake or not.. but he tried to make himself relax. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her away.. He listened to her when she spoke, his ears twitching a little curiously. She'd never had a friend? Or never gone out with a friend for so long? He was curious, but didn't want to push his luck by asking. So he realized he probably wouldn't be brave enough to make another move like that again, not for a good while. He simply enjoyed holding her hand, trying to find a stall in the market that sold or had some first aid. "One of these stalls will probably have something. They usually have emergency kits. I think it's required for at least one stall to sell or give them away.. It sounds like your mother cares about you a lot." he smiled reassuringly at the cattaur as they wandered for a few more moments before Lumear finally spotted what appeared to be bandages on one of the tables. They were probably meant to be for a costume, but they'd do. Paying a small amount of coin, he stepped aside to try and clumsily wrap the worst of his cuts.
