Character Name: Ngozi
Race: Elf
Class: Trader
Subtype: African
Element: heat
Gender: male
Age: 179 (I'm aiming for full-adult, on the young side, but it's hard to judge.)

Family: Ngozi comes from a fairly large family. His maternal grandmother, Caimile, is more or less the the undisputed matriarch of the family, with Ngozi's aunt Anana and his mother Amadika being her close confidants. He has a sister, Nini, and four brothers, Baako, Enu, Nsia, and Awotwi. Ngozi is the youngest. He also has a fair number of cousins. His father Nsonowa has been dead for roughly fifty years. Ngozi is quite close to Anana's husband, Saidi. He is almost always accompanied by his fairy, Kiden.

History: Ngozi's family comes from the southeast, just north of the Kiurek Desert. The family is noble, wealthy, but not particularly well thought of. Nsonowa died under rather questionable circumstances, thought Caimile hushed it all up rather effectively. There has long been suspicions of smuggling under the family's rule, but nothing was ever provable. Caimile's public stance has always been that while some of the family may have been involved in rather unsavory opportunities, it is certainly not accepted by the family as a whole. Rumours of organized crime persist.

Ngozi himself, despite being the youngest of his siblings and most of his cousins, would probably have risen quite easily into a life of luxury, were he not stricken with a chronic case of wanderlust. His family wasn't exactly pleased when, soon after his eightieth birthday, he announced he was going to hook up with a caravan of merchants, but they let him go.

He travelled with the merchants, learning the ways of barter and haggling, for six or seven years, at which point he tired of sharing the profits and set off on his own. Ngozi was soon after seen with a small wagon and a mule; we must assume he had been saving more than anyone had suspected. He's been back home once or twice since then, and is known to write to Uncle Saidi, but he's not terribly close to them.

Present: These days, Ngozi specializes in exotic items. Jewelry, statuary, fetishes, charms, protective amulets, bolts of fine cloth, ornamental daggers... that sort of thing. Some of it is real, and some of it is good fakery. He's come to Terralusk primarily to make a profit, though he certainly would be willing to lock up the wagon for a while and enjoy some good old-fashioned debauchery--at least, if he can get Kiden out of his hair.

Personality: His favourite things are money, food, drink, and pretty ladies, in no particular order. He's got a quick tongue and a smooth, casual manner, which he's found usually serves him well either during business or pleasure. He has a quick eye for detail and value, and is a great appreciator of beauty, whether in a piece of jewelry, a lovely young elven girl, or his own mirror--Ngozi is rather vain. He's smart, fairly well educated, and has a good memory. Despite some rather questionable business practices, Ngozi is a peaceable man, who despises violence. He'd never actually steal. Cheat, yes.

Appearance: Ngozi's complexion is medium-dark, the colour of graham crackers. (Forgive the dumb metaphor. It was the only thing I could think of that was a similar shade.) His eyes are black and wide-set, and his lips are full. His hair is black, curly, and kept cropped close against his skull. He's on the short side (about 5'5") and not very strong at all. He was once slim, but he's beginning to develop a slight paunch around his middle. He wears two gold hoops and one gold stud in his left ear, and one gold hoop, one silver hoop, and three gold studs in his right. He's slightly farsighted, and has a pair of glasses he sometimes needs for reading, but Ngozi dislikes wearing them and avoids it when he can. He wears a lot of reds, oranges, and yellows.

Sunny cannot draw. Just pretend that it's a good picture.

Trader's Log

Oh, this is going beautifully. Besides a few sales, I've met another trader, name of Tertian, who's looking to unload a few absolutely exquisite hand-made fans.

If I can get my hands on them, it will be worth almost whatever I have to pay.

Trader's Log

I'm afraid I'm not making as much progress as I had hoped. While my first few days went quite well, during the excitement of the festival, my little stall is being ignored.

I think I'll come out ahead despite everything. And my savings should be enough for me to survive anyway.

No, I chose this path long ago, and I'm not going to let a little setback like this hinder me. After all, there was that disastrous matter in the western forests. Oh, I hate thinking about that.
