Have you ever noticed some of the more controversial topics end up requiring you to input words in Gaia? I mean, it could just be my imagination, but I get the feeling there might be a button somewhere for mods or a "scouring" piece of programming that looks for certain words frequently and then requires the "write the words below" thing. It's probably not true, but at the same time, I've seen it crop up at the creepiest of times.

I don't really pay much attention to the captchas. I'm almost always posting in a topic about something controversial anyway. I won't disagree with the notion that maybe there's a legion of spider programs scouring the Net for keywords because that's probably true. However, I don't think it would be in their best interest to make you type a captcha whenever you talk about something controversial. Might give them away.

Perhaps they keep a track on it, but I don't think Gaia's too bothered either way; otherwise they'd block the posts altogether.

They do come at inconvenient times tom say the least, but if a captcha is the only thing blocking you from posting, then I don't think that's an infringement of free speech.

If anything a captcha defends free speech by keeping bots from spamming up everything so that real people can actually get a word in. xd

Gaia's captcha system starts to kick in if you post rapidly, replacing the stupid "must wait x seconds until you can post" which resembled the antiquidated AOL flood filter.
