Ah, the first competition...whether it's your first of your high school career or first of the season, it's always nerve wracking. Ours was on saturday, and it was probably the best first competition we've ever had. First place in our group, second overall, and as long as we keep up the pace we're working at, we're looking at a pretty good season (especially for our first year at grand nationals! :]).
So, how has the beginning of everyone else's seasons been?

Our band I guess didn't do field show up until two years ago, and from what I hear they fail. But were kick a** at parade and control the spirit at all the football games even though our team sucks. So we had almost a skirmish saturday with all the bands in the district performing what they've learned so far. It wasn't a competition but if it was we would've won. Our band director was saying today when he was talking to us about it that the other bands were saying they wanted to beat us and everything.
We were the talk of the night because everyone wanted to see us perform. Our band director was saying if we wanted to we could go undefeated the whole season in the district. Were aren't gonna get any sympathy from anybody this season they want to chop us up and cut our heads off. rofl

Just had our first competition on the 25th, and its ALWAYS nerve wreaking at first, until you step onto that field and feel the good adrenaline rush through you biggrin
When we came to the place, we heard another band preform from the buses and we all told everyone to shut up and listen. Another Band was playing the SAME SHOW as us. We were mad. But we owned XD
As we all waited for the places, we all were so happy we got 2nd overall bands! And oh man, some of the AAA bands were so mad XD
Kinda dumb the divisions now go with band size. My band is AA. if we had 2 more students we would have been in AAA, and that would be hard because their are some really good bands... Were enemies of soo many bands lol
But we were the talk of the night, even from other bands. So our show is going great so far, how bout you all?

Our band's first comp is this Saturday and we're always easy to recognize mrgreen . I mean, come on, how many bands have their entire group in kilts xd ? And I mean the entire group, not just the drum majors whee . That, and our band is by far the best and the biggest in the district. We win all of the sweeps in the district competition hands-down. Although, bigger comps that include schools from other, richer districts or even completely different states are much more uncertain, but we're getting there 3nodding .
Personally, I get nervous at any comp, whether it's my first or my last and it's even worse when the moon isn't showing. Yeah, I know it's kind of weird, but my before-comp ritual is to just shut up and stare at the moon. Studying all the seas and such on it really help me to relax sweatdrop .

Sounds a lot like our abnd. we have 69 people, and you have to have 70 to be in Division II, so we are the largest band in division III. Which works pretty well for us lol. As for our first competition, ours has yet to come. It was suppsoed to be this week, but our director, coir director, didn't know there was a deadline to sign up. So instead, we are doign a different competition because we needed 2 state qualifiers. works in our favor though beause our show is not competition ready yet. We just finished it last friday,a nd both the middle songs are trainwrecks. i love the very first competiton. My favorite thing is watchig the freshman. You see them on the bus or while warming up: their eyes wandering and unable to focs, wide and nervous. As ou repare to march on the field, they fidget, their eyes widening and teir faces pale, a look i like to call "what the crap am i dpoing here?!" Then as you march onto the field, their eyes grow less wide, and they give way to the adrenaline that alays comes as you amrch in front of a good crowd. Finally, the end of the show. Their eyes sparkle and there is a smile on their faces as the crowd cheers. Its amazing!

We did an awesome job at our first competition, despite the drum line. It was pretty great. South Laurel High School BandI don't like how they move in the beginning, but because we only have two songs set at the time we had to take up some time. haha

We had our first legitimate contest yesterday (: We held our own contest a week ago, but we were just the exhibition band.
We did decent at this past contest. We weren't done with all of our drill so the last three or so bars were stand still. We got third place out of eight bands, best drum majors, straight 1's, as well as best drumline.
Two weeks ago, the line went to a contest of our own as well. We took home best cymbals, best snares, best in the 5A division, as well as overall grand champion. So we're sorta on a roll so far, haha.

We didn't do field show until about two years ago, and I was in the band before we did field show and it was suckish. We were the bomb at parade though, sweeping competitions at parades and such. Now we do field show though. Our first competition was September 11th, and we got our first...first place biggrin We got most of the captions too, everything except best guard, which isn't a surprise. (To be fair, there was only two of us in our class, but we were pretty evenly matched.)

At my first competition i kinda messed up. We had show sticks and blue fuzzy sticks. Right before our drum solo while the basses were changing sticks i droped a show stick. So i had to play with one show stick and one fuzzy stick. But overall we did good.
