“Like small defects on the design or pattern. Or a tiny crack. I suppose it’s not very wise to buy a cracked jar but I’m sure I could find a talented slave or two who can fix small mistakes in the ornament. Although it sounds a little devious…” he said the last part apologetically as if he expected Haqikah to consider buying a good jar at a lower cost and then getting it fixed to perfection a very underhanded thing to do. He could certainly think of a friendly slave or two who would gladly help out in exchange for something as small as a few biscuits or a small fish but it almost seemed as if he was considering taking advantage of a small mistake to avoid paying the fair price for a slave’s work.
“That is splendid idea, the jar would look beautiful with flowers. Here you go, miss, enjoy your tea. Be careful please, it’s quite hot.” the cat said cheerfully, bringing the tray with the biscuits and tea to his mistress. He was rather happy she’d thought about her two slaves as far as biscuits went. Akil did love a good little biscuit in the evening and he was sure the dark slave did as well. “I’ll tell Nuri you were pleased, miss.”

Despite her intense repulsion to the idea of buying something flawed she was getting intrigued by Akil's devious little plan. Buying something with a discount and then fixing it up to perfection... Even if she ended up disliking the jar simply because she knew the fault had been there, she might be able to sell it to someone gullible down the street - full price. Hmmm... Maybe not full price, but at least more stones than she had given for it.
"I think I like your plan," she said and grinned, but it wasn't a very nice grin, "You are to look for suitable jars next time you go to the market. Then report to me what we can get, because I want to make the final decision."
She then turned her attention to her snack, ignoring her slave for the moment. The tea was too hot to drink just yet, but she picked up a biscuit carefully in her mouth and dipped it even more carefully in the tea. She had no desire to burn her lips, but she had tried this with success before. When the biscuit had soaked up some tea she devoured it with obvious pleasure. Ah... Life was good, and for a short moment Haqikah was perfectly content with what she had.

Akil hesitated, slightly taken aback by the off-putting grin. He still believed the best of every hound – his masters in particular - and often let their faults slip past him unnoticed so he was surprised when Haqikah seemed to be considering his idea. He hadn’t expected her to take it seriously, it had been a joke… well, almost. At the very least he had expected his mistress to thoroughly chastise his wicked mind.
“Yes, mistress. I’ll take care of it.” The young slave said after his brief moment of confusion. “I will go tell Nuri you were pleased with the flowers then. With your permission.”
He bowed low and waited to see if Haqikah’s would object before he turned and silently slinked away to join the dark slave outside.

Haqikah's conscience had always had a healthy amount of wiggle room when it came to business opportunities. She could sense Akil's discomfort, but she wasn't dissatisfied with his honest disposition. It might cause trouble in some cases, but a honest and loyal slave was better than a lying, thieving one. And as long as he was more loyal to her than to things like moral everything would turn out fine. After all, it had been his idea and if things didn't go as planned she would never let him forget it.
"You may go," Haqikah said and nodded in response to his bow. "I wish to be alone for a while."
She might call Akil or Sudi later if she wanted entertainment, but right now she was content to get some alone time with her snack. Yes, for the moment life was good.
