Amaranth settled himself down among the soft bed of hay that covered the back of the tractor. The air held the undeniable smell of autumn: dried leaves and harvest hay. The bustling breeze that wafted through the cornfield held the first chills of autumn, slowly working their way in as they shoved the last tendrils of summer's warmth from the area. And, in celebration of the coming of Autumn, the sundial lad had found himself dragged out to this cornfield for a "haunted hayride". Oh joy.
The oh-so-amused blonde sat, knees held up in front of him as he examined the goods he'd been handed as he'd climbed up on the tractor bed. So far, he had a caramel apple, two popcorn balls, a spider ring, and a tootsie roll. He glanced around; so far, the tractor was nearly empty, save for him and Ezri. Iskara had decided to stay home and tend to the gardens; Amaranth wish he could have joined her, or that she would have come instead. While Iskara respected the fact that he wasn't into idle chitter-chatter, her younger sister was an entirely different manner.
"C'mon, Amarama! Smile some!" the green-skinned teen urged, nudging the young boy beside her. "I know you can talk. C'mon, open-crack that shell of yours and out you come!" She was trying to use modern-day lingo and phrases, and she was working really hard at it. But, more often than not, she botched said attempts.
"...Crack open your shell and come out." The boy corrected after a pause, not even bothering to look up at the girl. This was going to be a long day; he could already tell.

Before the hayride took off, another boy ended up climbing into it, taking a seat by Amaranth and looking down at the stuff in his lap. This boy was pink, with raven black hair and bright blue eyes. He seemed a little weirded out by the stuff they'd given him for this supposedly "haunted" ride. Sure, the food was probably okay, but the ring was a little silly, and did they really need teeny tiny candies? Wynn half wondered if he'd ended up on a ride for toddlers by mistake.
Turning to the person next to him, he nodded politely. "Hey there." Well, the boy didn't look too young anyway, so that was an okay sign, right?

Amaranth glanced up at the other boy, offering him a a polite nod. The nod was supposed to be a "Hello there, pink peer of mine", but whether the boy took it that way or not was another story. The boy felt a nudge in his ribs, which was an obvious sign from the older girl to say something. Still, he remained silent, trying to ignore the elbow hitting against his side. Finally, he gave in, letting out a little sigh, shooting Ezri a look. He then looked back to the other child, his face smoothing into a polite, yet blank, emotion.
"Hello." the boy greeted, his voice quiet and whispery. If he were any quieter, the breeze would have spirited his words away from the other boy. He moved away from the other girl a bit, turning to face the other boy. He had the pink boy to thank for this wonderful reason not to deal with Ezri. Thank gods.
