Or at least healthier than I've been eating. xD
Since school started and I've had to pack my lunch in the morning, I've realized how much packaged/unhealthy food I eat. SO, I've decided to try to eat healthier. That doesn't mean I'm going to cut out all packaged/unhealthy foods, just limit them.
What I've done: -Eating cheerios with raisins and milk for most breakfast on weekdays. Eggs/toast/chocomilk/orangejuice on the weekends. -Packing fruit in my lunch! Bananas, apples, grapes, etc. -Actually eating vegetables. I try to add some broccoli or corn to my meals, I asked my dad to get some green beans at the farmer's market, AND I made myself a salad today (mainly just lettuce, carrots, and croutons). -Limiting how much I eat out. -Not drinking soda (I've cut back on my soda from the beginning of summer). -Drinking lots of waaaater. -Not eating past 8-9ish (most nights >>).
What I'm wondering, is if anyone has some yummy, healthy, easy to make foods for me to try or healthy eating tips~

I don't know if you eat peanut butter regularly, but if you do, measure out how much you eat in servings. Peanut butter has a lot of calories and fat, but it's so good it's easy to eat a lot of (imo).

I drink 9-12 cups of water a day, I have a bottle that is 3 cups of water, i drink like a fish!! I eat dinner at 8 unfortunately because my sister has work late, but because of that I eat a small amount. Eggs are good for you, especially egg whites. If you want to change up your week's breakfast, have some scrambled egg whites.
If you're a nut job like me, scramble 1 egg white, some skim milk, hot sauce, red cayenne pepper flakes and some pepper. SO GOOD. And if thats not enough, put it on a whole wheat bagel!

It's less about what you should eat, and more about how much you should eat. If your diet was only fruits and veg, then it's not that healthy. The key is keeping it balanced in terms of nutrition.
The advice given here is min. 5 portions of fruit/veg a day. It's not that difficult to do. Say you have breakfast with one portion (a glass of OJ will do). Then two portions at lunch, and two portions at dinner. You'd be surprised at how little a portion is (a handful of grapes, one banana etc.).
For carbs, it's healthier to eat whole grains like brown bread, brown rice, whole-grain cereal etc.
Protein-wise, mix it up. Try different meats if you're not a veggie, and make it freshly prepared meats (i.e. not processed stuff). Also other sources of protein are essential like beans, tofu, soy etc.
Dairy stuff also provides minerals that you wouldn't otherwise get. So keep an eye on how much calcium and vit D you're getting. Yoghurts are great snacks. Cheese is good in small amounts.
Also know your fats. Mono and poly unsaturated fats are best for you (again in the right proportions) whereas saturated and transfats aren't so good. Omega-3s are supposed to be the best for you health-wise, so eat fatty fishes like salmon and herring (or take supplements).
General tips, I would say try and always eat freshly prepared food. It's likely to be much healthier, and probably tastier, than any prepackaged crap. Learn to cook your own meals, and you're also likely to eat better if you can see what actually goes into your food. Aim for each meal to have equally sized amounts (roughly guess it by weight, not by physical size) of protein, veg, and carbs on your plate. Obviously busy lifestyles means this isn't always possible, but just try to limit how much you don't cook yourself.
Also, swap any unhealthy snacks like potato chips or chocolate bars for healthy options like wholegrain cereal bars or dried fruit.
Also that no eating after 8 or 9 thing is a complete myth. It doesn't matter what time you eat. For someone like me who is naturally more nocturnal (my ideal sleeping time would be 5am - noon), eating at 9 or even later seems perfectly natural to me. Don't worry too much about this. Rules in general like this aren't particularly conducive to healthy eating; healthy eating isn't about rules, it's about guidelines and there is a lot of leeway.

I'm not really an over eater, so I'm definitely not worried about portion sizes and such. I'm more concerned about lessening my prepackaged foods for fresh foods.
Also, I'm usually in bed by 10:30 or 11. So, I'm definitely going to stick to trying not to eat after 8 or 9. With my sleep patterns the food I'd eat after that time would just be extra that wouldn't have an opportunity to be used.
