Devilish Zukin
I've felt the same way for many years too.

Periods cause me so many problems, and if I'm the tiniest bit late I stress out and sometimes make myself sick.

I've talked to my doctor about getting it all "ripped out" but she won't do it because I'm "too young".

They think I'll change my mind about wanting to have my own child, it's really frustrating. I think I'm old enough to make up my own mind about that.

Adoption is much more important to me. It just makes more sense in my mind to adopt a child that needs a home than to bring another child into the world.

...I don't know if that's cold sounding or not.

Seriously though Stef, if you feel this way and have for a long time I hope that a doctor can help you.
You need to talk to your doctor again.

Ask her what the term 'patient autonomy' means to her.

Ask her if it's ethical that she impose her morals on you and about her opinions on the paternalistic nature of medical care.

If you get the depo provera shot, it's a shot in the arm once every three months. After you've been on it for about 6months-1year, your period disappears completely because your body stops releasing eggs.

Alternatively, ask her to recommend you to another doctor who might be more willing to do what you want. I feel like a doctor's within their rights to refuse treatment they're against, but the ethical action here would be to recommend/pass you on to someone else.

I looked into this thinking GOD YES THIS MUST BE AMAZING

And then I was like *reads*

HOLY s**t IT'S AWESOME AND CHEAP!

And then I read more

And heavier periods the entire time you're on it is a possible side effect
and then facial ********. FACIAL HAIR!? D;

I do really wanna do something and it doesn't honestly sound awful. But goddamn, the side effects on some of these things are horrifying.

After my heart problem I wonder if that'll end up hurting my chances with the plain ol' pill. I should do a bit more research.

Really though, guys, thanks a bunch. o: Keep postin information?

The facial hair really isn't a side effect you need to worry about. You read up on a drug and the only people who post are the ones with a horror story about it, but there's thousands and thousands of people who take it with no side effects. You read the posts from the 5 people who do get them. But yeah, the only shitty part about depo is that when you first start it you can spot for weeks at a time. But then your period does eventually disappear. Only other shitty part is that you need to take a calcium supplement when you get depo (like eating two tums a day) because it can deplete the calcium in your bones.
