I've looked up a little about it and, from the looks of things, it would do the least damage to my hair and would fade out and give me back my natural hair color. My hair is a medium brown, certainly not light, and I'm trying to get it to an auburn, brown-red color.

I'm gonna do it for Halloween... so, anyone done it before? Tips? Sites? Etc? If you're not a fan of henna, what else would you recommend?

I used henna on my hair back in junior high. Your hair has to be of its natural colour. Henna doesn't stick on dyed hair. And if you want you can mix the powder to other substances (red wine, coffee, tea) for certain effects. I've heard many people mix henna with red wine to make their hair more red.
They say that heat helps when you're using henna, so wrap a warm towel around your head or something (I don't think you have a sauna?).

There's a sauna on campus, but that's kinda far. And I haven't dyed my hair in... certainly over four years. The color I have now in 100% natural.

It smells like s**t.
It takes ******** ages. 12 hours just to let the henna stand before you even think about putting it in your hair, and then 2+ hours to let it sit in your hair.
And there's a lot of mixing.

It's not practical imo, but I'd say go for it. Just remember that henna ONLY comes in red, but there are certain things (plant dyes) you can add to it to make it lighter, or darker (black pretty much). But if you use it, use body quality henna instead of hair quality, because body quality has a higher dye content so more Lawsone is available to saturate the cuticle.
