Walking down the hall, going back to his room, Lutwidge nearly tripped and fell on his face. Stupid dark hallway! he thought. Bending over, he picked up the object of his irritation. A ballpoint biro! A pen! Perhaps this was more fortuitous than he'd thought. But whose pen was this? He wanted very badly to keep it. He had paper hidden in his room- he could draw with this. It would be an upgrade from his rather stubby pencil. But it would be wrong to keep it if it wasn't his. He looked around. Nobody was nearby, but there was a lone figure at the end of the hallway. A girl, it seemed, with long prismatic hair, a tail, and lovely rainbow wings. The darkness was obscuring any more of the details. Seeing... other kinds of people was one of the strangest, and in his opinion, best experiences of Asylum living. He'd ask her about the pen. If it wasn't hers, he'd keep it. If it was... well, at least he might be able to make a friend.

"Excuse me, Miss!" he called, jogging towards her. "Did you drop something?" But as the girl turned around and he got closer, he could see that the apparent young lady was actually a young man. Oh, crap. "Uh! I mean! Sir! Sir, did you drop something?" He smiled nervously, hoping that the other wouldn't be too terribly offended. Worse came to worst, he could always run away.

User ImageLennox wandered through the halls, enjoying the solitude as he let his thoughts wander. So long as he stayed on the first floor he was not too afraid...actually, the longer he lived here the less afraid he became. Perhaps it had something to do with Daniel? Having him come to collect him not once but twice had given him a sense of security he had not thought was possible to find in this place. Plus, it seemed he had a few friends now. Lennox's tail twitched happily from side to side. He paused though and turned his head as he heard someone calling out to a...girl? Lennox turned and blinked at a...rather colorful looking boy....was it a boy? Yes...by the sound of his voice he was surely a boy.

"I am no sir but...no. I did not drop anything." Lennox patted the pants on his pockets and smiled a little. "I never carry anything on me when I leave my room. It's safer that way."

Lutwidge's heart stopped racing. The other guy wasn't mad! Which was a good thing. The last thing he needed was to make a non-human mad. He liked them an' all, it was just that they, well... had powers. Abilities. They could change reality in ways he didn't understand, so he figured instinctively that it was best not to upset them. "Oh, good then. You're probably right. I mean, about the whole safety thing." He stood there awkwardly for a moment, hands and new pen jammed into his pockets. Gazing down at his shoes, he tried not to stare. The wings... they were just so shiny. "Pardon me for asking, but have you been here long? I don't think I've seen you before."

Lennox could not stop looking at the boy in front of him. He was so...punk! Lennox wanted to reach out and touch one of his piercings. The urge made his fingers twitch! And his tail. Lennox smiled, but was careful to keep his lips closed. The last thing he wanted was to bare the sharp points of his teeth and scare this colorful fellow off.

Lennox watched as the other boy put what seemed to be a pen into his pocket. That was smart of him. If he already knew to collect and scavenge then he must have been in a situation like this before maybe? If it had not been for Daniel Lennox was certain it would have taken him too long to realize what he needed to do to get by. "Have I?" Lennox repeated as he forced his eyes to lift away from the boy's piercing. He ran a hand through his hair while admiring the colorful strands of this other fellows. Well! Now Daniel couldn't pick on him for his hair anymore!

"I have been here for a while, but not a terribly long time. I tend to scavenge in the lower levels so I am not surprised you have not seen me before. I usually try to avoid others, you know, because not everything here is exactly safe. You ought to be careful."

"That would explain it then- I stay away from the lower levels for the most part. It's too close to where the doctors work, and the last thing I want is for them to notice me. They're more dangerous than any of the patients I've met so far. But I guess I'm just sort of used to the place, and have a kind of complacency that comes with adjustment- I mean, I've been here for five years now. It'll be six on my birthday. How's that for a present? But I digress." Lutwidge smiled- the other boy didn't seem too bad. "I've found that while avoiding people can be smart, making alliances is often smarter. So long as you don't get too attached- I mean, friendship is great and all, but I've seen a lot of good people get dragged away by the doctors and never come back." The fae-type had been here a while, he'd said- surely by now somebody who roomed near him had been taken. "But thanks for your concern- it's really nice to meet somebody who's not interested in attacking. I mean, you're not interested in attacking, right? I'm not interested in attacking." For all he knew, this whole thing could be a ruse to get him in a better position.

"They aren't exactly safe places to be. I will agree with that. I only try to go two floors down. So few people go there and it's the best place to scavenge for useful things. But you tend to find the much more dangerous people down there too. I've been attacked twice so far, and I've been really lucky to escape." Lennox replied as he glanced down at his bare feet. Lennox's head snapped up a moment later though and he blinked. "Six years? Honestly? I...I've only been here a few months. I can't imagine what it will be like in six years...Maybe the food will be better..." He mused thoughtfully.

As Lutwidge would speak of getting attached, he found his cheeks heating up. Thank goodness for black skin eh? His tail though twitched back and forth unconsciously. "I am afraid I could not agree. These past few months would have been unbearable if I did not have someone to help me." Lennox glanced over his shoulder as mention returned to that of the doctors. "I have...seen what they do. It's terrible. My poor Daniel..." Lennox shook his head a little. "I mean...they are very cruel. I hope I never meet one."

As attacking was brought up, Lennox couldn't stop himself from laughing softly. His lips parted to reveal tiny pointed teeth as he shook his head back and forth. "No...No...I'm a grade A coward. I do not attack, I flee when given the first chance. I prefer to avoid physical confrontation. I don't have any fighting skills and seem to end up in bad situations when I am faced with an aggressor."

Lutwidge shook his head, almost violently. "No, no, don't be ashamed of it. Cowardice has kept me alive and mostly unmolested for this long. It's kept me sane. Flight is always the best option around here, especially if you're tangling with the staff. They always have more people- no matter how many you take down, there's more and more on the way." He licked his lips nervously- talk of the staff put a bad taste in his mouth. "If you're human or can pass for it, you're luckier than the rest. No offense, but a guy like you- you stand out. And the poor experiments... I'm sure you've seen one of them by now. They get taken away a lot for testing. You and your friend... Daniel? I mean, if he's gotten guff from the staff, he probably knows- should definitely scram when you hear the white coats coming. That swishy sound, combined with the noise of their heavy shoes... that means hide around here." He paused for a moment, thinking of any other advice he could give the guy. "Especially if the doctors know you have a friend. They're pretty keen on psychological torture around here. They'll take one of you just to mess with the other one. I think the only thing they like to split up more is a romantic couple or a family... a few years ago, this one girl had a baby... they figured out who the father was..." He shook his head again, remembering. He'd known them. "They kept their daughter quiet for a few months, but eventually they got caught. Nobody heard anything for two weeks, and then they gave her his ID bracelet and took the kid. It broke her. So even though forming a friendship might seem like a good idea, it's stories like that that make me wary of strong relationships. Don't let any of the staff know you've got a friend."

"How has it kept you sane?" Lennox found such a thing rather odd. He could not imagine how being a coward could be good for your mental health. He could only imagine that having so many fears controlling you to be a contributing factor towards a final mental break down. Lennox's tail flicked behind him as he considered the thought concerning the staff. "I...suppose you are right in that. There will always be more staff members." Lennox found himself running a hand uneasily up and down his arm as the colorful boy would comment on his appearance. He found his wings compressing into a pair of thin filigree lines against his back, as if to hide the vibrant colored extensions on his back from easy sight. Not that it did anything for the equally vibrant colors of his hair.

"I...did not know that. It is..terrible to think that someone could do that to another person. It's just...wrong." Lennox shook his head a little from side to side, in a effort to banish the images placed in his head by Lutwidge's words. His warnings did make sense though. If the doctors enjoyed torment of the emotional and mental sort, it really would be best if he was careful on how he allowed others to perceive his...his what? He talked a lot about Daniel..thought about him a lot...could the doctors read thoughts? If they could there would be no way to possibly conceal how fond he was of his room mate...or how safe he felt around him... Lennox blinked his eyes to refocus on Lutwidge.

"I will be very careful then...perhaps I will be fortunate and be able to..well..hide better I guess. How have you managed yourself all this time? I mean... with all these terrible things going on around you, how do you manage to keep from sinking into desperation or depression?" Lennox felt his tail twitching behind him, the rainbow-ed tip tickled the backs of his elbows, and in slight irritation he reached back to grab the twitching thing. Now he knew how a cat felt when it was unable to hide it's anxiety. He was only lucky it was not furred, he could only imagine how foolish he'd look with it all fluffed up.
