Shy's Discovery
The cloak was light on his frame, white with intricate flames of blue and red rising from the hem as if it was trying to devour it's owner. The hood hid all of his face, and had it not been for his pause to stare into the sky, he could have been a stranger.
But as he stared into the familiar sky, the crimson cast of the sunset, it is all too obvious that he knows exactly where he is.
And that he has been here.
Too often.
The fields are deserted now. Once, they had been full of rice paddies, green stalks rising into the skies and the occasional man or woman stooping over during harvest season. Near the bend of the valley lay a village, prosperous and rich compared to the poorer neighbors. He knew every alley in that village, every hut's occupant and every cat that lounged in the sun.
Or would have known, had they existed any longer.
The wind whipped the hood away from Shy's face, as if welcoming his return to the village. He stopped for a moment, closing his eyes and daring the wind to give him a better answer.
As he did so, as he continued walking, he stepped on something hard, foreign.
Shy looked down with surprise. He thought he knew every line to the paddies, and it was supposed to be soft, sunken mud that never dried because of the tropic rainstorms. He paused, moving his foot to see something lying in the mud, staring up at him as if somehow it could sense his scrutiny.
The almost kite shaped stone startled Shy, and he picked it up, using the white cloak to rub off the rain and grime. It was brighter, much brighter than he expected any stone to be, and with a pause he blew on it, as if somehow it would answer any questions he had.
The stone glowed.
"Hello there."
Shy mused. The stone's glow settled to a mild orange beat, and with a smile, Shy placed it into his pocket.
Had this been what he had come for?
With a shrug, he decided to return home.
The ghost village had existed for as long as Shy could remember. He knew better than to think it would disappear in the next few days.
But the stone...
What did the stone contain?

A Teyco Stone?
"Shy?"
Shy looked up from his experiment, and nodded his head. Through the glass pane a tall figure reached for the microphone again.
"We've got some information on that stone."
Shy absentmindedly fingered it. He kept it in his lab pocket at all times and had developed a habit of playing with it whenever he needed to think. "Is it dangerous?" he asked, a lilt of amusement in his voice.
The man hesitated. Was he serious? "No, but--"
"Then leave me alone." the smile dimmed. "I'm working."
Shy turned back to the microscope slides in front of him, touching the stone as if somehow, it would give him the inspiration he needed. A genetic scientist who created pets for exclusive groups of people in order to fund his Fae project, sometimes he was in the lab far longer than was necessary.
"If only this would merge together..." he muttered to himself.
The stone seemed to glow, warming his fingers and reassuring him. Shy smiled. It had become a habit, talking to his stone and while his staff had grown used to it, he knew the people behind the screen were not.
Just a little longer... now if he could find a compatible chromosome between these two links...
There.
"Shy?" the persistent person at the other end of the wall asked. "Are you finished now?"
Shy smiled. The feral expression winked as he nodded his head. "I'm done." he confirmed. "Now, what did you say this stone was?"
