TOURNAMENTS!
If it's about time to prove you're better than, well, everyone else, then maybe it's time to prepare for a tournament. The tournaments will be held at our discretion, and there will be a period of time for signups. After signups have concluded, either at the time limit or at 8 combattants, Face Your Demons will typically roll to pair contestants up in mini-battles, where the winner will move on to the next round up a sort of tournament-tree. Isn't that exciting?
Along with proving you're the best, there are certain more tangible rewards for participating and winning.
How the Tournament Battles work:
After Demons has assigned each combattant an opponent for the first round, each battle will be hosted separately. The combattants have a certain period of time in which to complete their battle. Because of the fast-paced nature of the tournament, everyone will start with a health cap. Instead of 100 HP, each contestant will have only 50 HP. Attacks will still do 5 damage a roll. This cap is to ensure battles are all, ideally, completed.
If someone's opponent doesn't roll during the first round of the tournament for 24 hours, they will be automatically disqualified. At that point, if there are an even number of combattants without opponents, they will be reassigned to each other. If, in the next 24 hours, their new opponent does not roll, the absent participant will be disqualified and a new battle vs an NPC "last-minute entrant" will take place. Alternatively, a waiting list may be set up for those who wish to participate but were unable to sign up in the allotted time. Instead of an NPC, in the first round, one may face one of the contestants from the waiting list. Essentially, the first round will last 3 days, while everyone gets into the groove of things. Staff Interference, or a sort of reverse Deus Ex Machina, may take place during this round. See Interference for information about this.
The winners of the first round will advance into the second round and be paired with new opponents from amongst the other winners. If their opponent has not rolled within 12 hours of this, and has given no prior warning for this, they will be disqualified. An NPC will immediately take their opponent's place. No waiting list applicants will be accepted or used during this round, as it would be unfair. Players start the second round with their full 50 HP again. Interference may take place during this round. The second round, from the GO, will last 48 hours.
During the third round, remaining two combattants will fight. They then have 24 hours to roll in their battle, or they will be disqualified. If a combattant is left with no opponent due to disqualification, an NPC will immediately take their place as if it was their scheduled opponent all along. Players start the battle with their full 50 HP. Interference will not happen in the third wave. Whoever survives this round is the winner of the tournament and all its trappings.
Demons recognizes that although an opponent may roll before the initial time limit, they may not roll again, or they may take an incredibly inconvenient pause. Should a period of 6 hours pass at any given point after their opponent's first roll, feel free to present the case to Demons via PM, unless the pause is a reasonable one (i.e. your opponent had to sleep, as some human beings do).
That said, if you know you are leaving the battle for a certain amount of time, PLEASE note that in the OOC of your last roll. So, for example, if I rolled and knew it would be my last before bed, I would say ((Last roll before bed! I'll roll before ____ EST/PST/WhateverST)) in the same post. As much as possible, try to conclude the battle swiftly, so that there will be no disqualifications.
If you have been disqualified from two tournaments due to unexplained inactivity, you will be greylisted from tournaments for a while. Tournaments alone, mind you! Not the rest of the shop. The greylisting will be lifted after a period of time determined by staff.
Interference
During the first two rounds, staff may decide to "interfere" with your battle. They will roll two D 20 in their post, explaining what the interference is (ex. A lion has been unleashed into the field, it seems to be eyeing the combattants). The first D20 corresponds to the entrant whose name is listed first in that particular battle, and the second D20 corresponds to the entrant whose name is listed second. If the number rolled is from 1-5, the corresponding combattant take 5 damage. If the number rolled is 7, the corresponding combattant will take 10 damage. Any other number, no damage is dealt. No more than 10 damage of interference will take place in any one battle.
