I sort of felt like posting this (though I'm not 100% sure if I'm in the right place) and asking some question about stuff I was not sure about in the article, and also ask what people thought of the article. Side note: don't read the comments. They are just annoying/depressing/no fun at all.

Mother and a Witch

Firstly, what do you think about the article in general? From what I know so far, it seems like a pretty good represntation of things...aside from the corny stuff from the writer. Some of the stuff was groan/eyeroll worthy.

Next, can anyone explain the Feri Witchcraft more in depth or direct me towards some links about it?

Something I would like to bring up as well: In the past I have heard witches and pagans say that they thought it was a lost cause to try and tell others about their path or their religion. They said it only lead to criticism and ridicule, more so than it ever led to people being understaning and informed. But on the flip side, I've heard some state that you must always be willing to divulge what you can, because if a witch or pagan was to with hold too much, then people would think that all pagans and witches were secretive and therefore up to no good or evil. I personally think it simply has to do with who you are talking to. Any thoughts on that?

The article in general was kinda interesting. It was nice for the writer to touch on rituals and Sabbaths. LSK did a nice job giving a basic explanation on the different aspects. It was good to see Pagan/ Wicca being explained.

I personally don't announce to people when I first meet them. I am more than willing to answer questions about what I believe to hopefully shed a better light. I feel that if people understand each others different paths in life it will lead to better understanding of different people. Than again I have been told that I live in a bubble but oh well.

Scorplett gave us this most awesome linkage for Feri Trad not too long ago - lots of great info.

It maybe, but it's always worth at least trying.

(have to run...will edit post later)

When it comes to divulging stuff, as someone seeking with a Wiccan coven, I believe that secrets aren't bad for simply being secret. Anyone who assumes that because I have a secret I must be evil isn't going to listen to me anyway.

My only problem with the article is that Hoodoo is a religion- a very flexible one, but it's theistic and has some core beliefs that people add on to.

Really? Could you source this for me? Because all the sources I've come across say that Hoodoo is just a magical practice(For lack of a better wording) and that Voodoo was an actual religion.

Just the way I was raised. It has some common beliefs and practices, it's very loose and eclectic, but since it's theistic- I'd say it's a religion.

I'm glad to see such a high-brow parenting website giving witchcraft a way into the mainstream, and that the interviewer didn't seem to skew her questions to make the interviewee seem crazy or something. Yay professional journalism!

In the case of telling people about my religion: I will if someone asks me about it, but otherwise it's not a big deal. When I was Catholic, I didn't run around telling everyone I was Catholic, and that's not because it was a majority religion. I'm not going to run around telling everyone I'm a Heathen, either, unless someone asks or it comes up in conversation somehow.

That makes a lot of sense.
