While the weather was still behaving, Cat used this class as an opportunity to get outside. It was oddly rare that he had a student whose magical talent had anything to do with the natural world; he could only recall one or two off the top of his head, and even then, it was even more rare that he could go outside. Therefore, the man was quite enjoying himself as he walked through the gardens of the Facility, picking up any odd stone that caught his eye. Luckily for him, this spawn's talent didn't require him to buy something out of his own pocket; all he needed was a few pebbles. An easy smile grew on Cat's face. Already this lesson felt like it was going to be fun.

It was his third visit to the infamous Facility, and for whatever reason, Llujah felt no real terror or dread. In fact, he was rather excited. He tried to think of his trip to the Facility, not as an uncomfortable or terrifying experience, but as a chance to learn something new about his heritage and himself. Even so, despite his attempts to calm himself, Llu still felt the slightest twinge of anxiety.
He quickly walked through the halls of the Facility until he found the garden within. It was a wide-open and spacious area, and Llu felt calmer by breathing in the fresh autumn air. At a distance, the Greed spawn spotted a gray-winged... man picking some pebbles. Llu's tail flicked as he strode over to the man, ready for whatever he was to learn. "You're mister Cat?"

Cat jumped gently when he was addressed from behind, wings fluttering and causing him to drop a few of the pebbles he had collected. An embarrassed chuckle fell past his lips as he bent to pick his collection up, smiling brightly at the spawn as he tried to figure him out. That is, the gender on the application sheet had been 'male', and he certainly sounded male, but... Cat shrugged a mental shoulder; whatever. Being an Eilian, he was very used to cross-dressing from both genders, so he was rather numb to it by now.
"That would be me," he replied cheerily, "and you must be Llujah. Nice to meet you." Cat straightened up with a slight groan, and then gestured for the child to follow him to where a bench resided. He sat with a grin, eager to begin this most original lesson.
"Now, I'm in charge of making you aware of your magical talent - all spawn have one - and getting you started on perfecting it," Cat explained as he reached out his palm filled with stones, indicated that Llujah should take one. "And you, Llujah, have a very interesting earth-based talent." Rather than continue on in verbal explanation, Cat did a curious thing: he took one of the stones into his clasped hands and shook it, as if he was shaking a pair of dice. When he stopped, he opened his hands to reveal the stone quite unchanged. His smile was mischievous as he spoke once again. "If you did the same, Llujah, you'd have a gem when you opened your hands. It could be any kind, from semi-precious to amazing, though I don't think you'll get a diamond from a pebble." He smirked gently, already knowing that he had the Greed child completely entranced. "Sound interesting to you?"

Llujah smiled at his teacher and followed him dutifully to where he sat on the bench. From what he could tell, this man was most likely the same as his mother was... He was an Eilian. What kind of Eilian, he did not know, but from what his mother had taught him, he knew enough to at least recognize one. After all, it wasn't like they were hard to pick out in a crowd. Odd beings with animal parts and strange features tended to attract attention.
Llu flicked his tail as he watched Cat demonstrate what he was to learn. His eyes were glued to the pebbles in his teacher's hand, and he had difficulty pulling away from them. An eyebrow raised as Cat shook a pebble in his hands like a pair of dice, then glanced up to the Eilian man. At the mention of gems, his dual-colored eyes opened wide. "I could make gems come from pebbles? R-really?" A grin appeared on his face as he reached for a pebble. The very idea of creating precious gems made his wings flutter and his tail twitch madly. "That's awesome! Can we start now?"

Cat chuckled at the boy's enthusiasm and nodded. "Yes, really. It would be kind of cruel to joke about something like that, don't you think?" Apparently in the mood to tease, Cat hesitated to answer Llujah's question on purpose, dragging out answering just for the pleasure of watching the child grow more and more anxious. "Well... Okay. Here, take your favorite," he said with a warm smile, opening his hand for Llujah to choose. Once he did, he set the rest of the pebbles between them on the bench.
"Now, you more or less just have to do what I did: close your hands around the pebble, focus a little, and then shake it around," Cat explained, chuckling a little at his own casual terminology. "I have to tell you though, this is the kind of talent that takes a lot of practice to become skilled at. You probably aren't going to get a gem very quickly, as this is your first time trying. But you'll get better, as long as you practice diligently." Once again, the Eilian chuckled, mostly to himself. "And given your virtue, that shouldn't be hard for you, huh?"

Llujah could hardly contain himself as he examined the pebbles for a favorite one to start on. So many of them looked particularly cool, but finally he settled on a small one with a light tan color. It felt slightly grainy. He picked it and gingerly held it in his hands. He looked back up to Cat as he explained. Ready to try anything for a gem as a result, Llu nodded, determined. "Right! I'll try!"
Llu took a deep breath as he tried to calm his nerves. He was so excited by the prospect of a gem that he was tempted to jump for joy. He had to contain himself, though. This required diligence, and diligence was what he had. He focused all he could at the tiny pebble in his hands and started shaking it violently. The look on his face was one of complete concentration, but all in all, he just looked silly.
It would all be worth it for a gem.

Cat had to suppress a grin as Llujah concentrated so strongly on his task, the boy looked so funny. But he didn't want to try and discourage the kid; after all, he was doing what he asked. So he merely studied the few people passing through the Facility's courtyard, fidgeting with the remaining pebbles in his hand.
"So," he said after a minute or two, "what's your favorite kind of gem, Llujah? And what are you going to do once you have your own treasure trove?" He turned towards the spawn with a teasing grin. "Sell it to jewelers, make your own accessories, or keep them all for yourself? What's the most profitable course of action for a little Greed kidlet like yourself?"

Llujah continued his harrowing task, shaking the poor little pebble in his hands unceasingly. He had not yet begun to tire, but he was beginning to feel just a twinge inpatient. He tried to keep his mind focused on just shaking the rock, shaking the rock, shaking, shaking, shaking... But the endless shaking and the idea of a diamond or a ruby in his hands when he opened them were almost too much to handle, and the young Greed spawn could not help but fidget and twitch his tail in his anxiousness.
When his teacher spoke to him, at first Llujah did not hear, being tuned in only to his work. After a second or two, though, he finally registered what Cat had said, and the spawn turned to him, surprised and slightly taken aback by his question. "Which one is my favorite?" He stopped to ponder the query - even going so far as to slow his hand-shaking. A moment or two passed before Llu laughed and turned back to Cat. "I dunno! I really like them all! I mean, some are prettier than others, and some go well with different outfits more than others, but they're all pretty and they're all special in their own way!"
The Greed spawn was paying more attention when he heard Cat's second question, and it took far less time for him to form an answer. "I'd kinda like to keep them all for myself... Maybe I could make some into jewelery and wear them, or maybe I could sell some to other people..." Llu trailed off and blinked a couple of times. A large grin spread across his face and his hip-wings fluttered madly in his excitement. "Oh! Oh! Ooooh! I know what I could do!" He turned full-face to his teacher.
"I could open a jewelery store and sell the gems I make to other people, as well as wear them myself. No -- wait! Better idea! I could open a boutique, and sell both jewelery and clothes! Oh my God, that's a great idea! Thanks, Cat!" Llujah beamed at the Eilian, hands still a-shaking.
