[; u ; I'm new so I hope I'm doing this correctly...please let me know if I'm not ; A ;]

Hello there~ My name is Samantha [though you can just call me Edward or Ed if you'd like]. I don't have much formal education. I took art in high school but my art teacher didn't really teach and when he did he taught wrong techniques [he told me that when I blend pencils that I should use my finger]...he was great at teaching how to draw boobs though :'D. I took a basic drawing class my first semester of college and learned better techniques to use with pencils.

I got my tablet a few years ago but just recently began getting really into digital art, and it's what I primarily do [I still do traditional sketches but not as much as I used to]. I am completely self taught digital wise~

This picture is the one that I am currently working on and I actually kinda like it so far. I'm trying do things I've never done before~
-I'm attempting to draw an animal
-I'm attempting different lighting styles

I...really like drawing/coloring noses ; u ;

The segment lengths on your fingers are different. Especially the pinky.

I think its a really nice start. Things that come to mind off the top of my head is that his skull could be a bit larger (check out a skull cross section, Like This , but also check out one with the skull and face separated).

You could use the octopus tentacles to show more of the planes of his face, right now they just curve around very smoothly. Consider how the face is shaped and how the octopus tentacle might change as it goes over different paths. Don't be afraid to be a little more angular. Your octopus is nice, though depending on how realistic of an octopus you want, check out some more references. They tend to be very frilly and wrinkly, so you would see that where the tentacles bend for sure.

I'd say otherwise, consider composition and color and texture contrast as well. I don't know if this is a cropped image since you are working on it, but I find the composition a little uncomfortable currently. Maybe it is because he face is very centered in the image, which is not really great for flow (though sometimes unavoidable), but also his hands are a big distracting and they keep drawing me away from his face. This is where you should consider where you want your viewer to be looking, and it doesn't mean you necessarily have to sacrifice something like the hands if you really want them. You can use other techniques, such as lighting, color, etc, to make the parts you want to stand out more.

Hope that helps,
Vena
