Yeah, if you read the lore, he's not really so much there for his devotees. There's a reason people are warned off wearing the valknut.

You don't go to Loki for the lessons YOU want to learn. Go in with that attitude and if you're lucky you won't learn anything at all. I find what you've said here a bit offensive, honestly.

And this is really not the thread for this discussion. This thread is for discussing Essential Asatru; please stay on-topic.

A blot is a simple offering and the typical solitary rite, a symbel it seems is what you use in kindreds or in large family gatherings. When I read the toasts in the intro to the chapters from the fictional kindred I thought "maybe I can use that in my solitary rites as well, just take more time to tell the stories and what not". My first ritual after reading Essential Asatru involved Toasts to heros and Gods.

Do you feel that the symbel rite can be performed solitary?

No. The sumbel is always performed in a group. It is not a group form of a blot, however. Blots are also often performed in groups.

So...Is anyone besides San and I reading this? Or did anyone read it when we first planned to and want to add something to the discussion? I'd love to see the opinions of someone who's not a Heathen. Get an outside perspective, as it were.

And does anyone have the Book of Blots she keeps mentioning? I've sort of been making things up from what I could skim here and there and it would be interesting to at least check out a more complete look at some full rituals, instead of just overviews.

Better late than never... I have a copy now. xd

I also picked up the Book of Blots not too long ago, so if there's anything in there you are interested in, let me know.
