Written from the POV of one of my Halo characters

My heart,
my spirit,
has shattered without you by my side.
Your familiar habits,
even the way you stand,
those simple memories
have filled my thoughts.

Our home's destruction,
has separated us.
Something that has never
happened before.
Since we were children,
ignorant little trainees,
we've been together.

Not even war could tear us apart.

Until now.

This dire mistake,
was entirely my fault.
The guilt I felt,
shackled up in a Covenant cell,
not even plasma burns could compare.

Beaten,
bleeding,
I hoped for two outcomes:
A chance for escape,
the hell I was in.
Or deaths sweet embrace.

Something must be watching over me,
the pathetic excuse for a soldier.
For that chance came--escape--
in two forms.
One went by unknown to me.
The other, a Spartan.

Jacob, an angel in disguise.

He guided the marines held with me,
and my battered body,
through the ship,
and away from immediate danger.

Against all odds,
we survived captivity in a Covenant ship.

My wounds are unbearable,
as I lay bleeding.
Though they are nothing but scratches,
compared to the pain of being without you.
