This has become this generations equivellant to, "Where were you when Kennedy was assasinated?"

Being on the west coast the planes crashed pretty early in the morning for us. My dad who works at a U.S. Military base called home to tell us what happened. I was so tired and groggy that when the answering machine took the message I could tell it was my dad, but didn't know exactly what he was saying. I just rolled over and went back to sleep thinking he just needed to ask my mom what she wanted for dinner or something like that.

After the plane hit the Pentagon my dad called again, this time more ergent than his previous message. While I didn't know what he said the first time, his message the second time rung loud and clear, and I'll never forget it.

"Get UP! The Pentagon was attacked!! Looks like we're going to war! The army base is on the highest alert!"

I bolted out of bed faster than I ever have in my life to get the full message from my father, and spent the rest of the morning watching the news and taking in everything that was happening in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. I had a mid-term scheduled that day at my college, which while the rest of the school closed down, my teacher refused to cancel the Mid-term, even in the middle of everything that was happening. I studied my a** off the night before, but failed miserably, how could I focus with everything that was going on?

After the test I went home, watched everything on the news with the rest of my family till lord knows how late. 2, 3, 4 am? It was late.

And that was where and what I was and was doing on 9?11

I was at glendalough park in county wicklow. I was with my uncles friend jody from conneciticut. She was looking after me. We went into a gift shop while there and she saw the news. I called her aunt jody at the time even though she wasn't related.l kept asking her why she couldn't stop crying and then she took me home. I was a kid i didnt really understand.

I was in fourth grade at the time and the principal walked in and informed us of what happened. I think we had a full day, but a lot of students were worried about their parents (the town is twenty miles outside of NYC). Unfortunately one of my friends lost his father in the attacks. =/

I was in school... Fifth Grade, I think?

That's really all I remember of that day.

I didn't even have time to get up and awake.. We were sitting in class, 4th grade, nothing ever started until 8am and we are an hour behind the east coast.

chatting with friends, everyone smiling, was told to cut on the tv by the principal. everyone's gazing at the TV. It was horrific.. no one understood how something could happen.

went home early, got checked out when the Pentagon was hit because the airplanes were hitting places as you would go down the coast. Freaked my family out.

Stayed up all night and all day, playing pokemon cards with my cousin and watching the news..
