☠ Candy; these substances are, generally, rather tame and their effects are temporary. They rarely result in jail time, but instead end in large fines and rehabilitation programs.
☠ ☠ Party Starters; these substances tend to have higher responses, with genuinely altering effects that last anywhere from minutes to hours. Being arrested with them will most assuredly end in fines, rehab, and short stays in Azkaban.
☠ ☠ ☠ Billywig Stings [ ☠ ]
Once only a common practice among young Australian wizards, the allure of the giddy sensation induced by the p***k of a Billywig has resulted in mass breedings in England and the illegal sale of its poached stingers. To attain a high, users simply take the dried stinger - the more recent it has been plucked from the unfortunate Billywig, the better - and jab their skin; some users even grind the stinger up and snort it instead, hoping to not miss a single dribble of the poison. The high also results in levitation, usually only a few inches, and occasionally produces a euphoric dream-like state. It has been used by insomniacs as a streetgrade sleep aid.
Blue Dust, Pixie Dust [ ☠ ☠ ]
Cornish Pixies have a thin layer of blue film on their wings to protect the sensitive membranes; this film can be scraped free and snorted, producing an intense, but very short-lived, “buzz” of increased adrenaline and swifter brain function. It is called both Blue Dust and Pixie Dust, and the act of using it is often referred to as “Smurfing” or “Snorting Smurf” due to the blue residue left beneath the user’s nose.
Chinese Fireballing [ ☠ ☠ ☠ ]
The nasal cavity of Chinese Fireballs - dragons native to China and popularized by their vicious temper - is coated in a unique scaled flesh that protects the dragon from burn damage when it emits fire. This scaled flesh is poached, ground into a fine powder, and then rolled into orange balls that harden with the passing of time; the more rock-like the balls, the more intense the effects become. The balls are then crumbled down again, and are either snorted or smoked. The results are increased aggression and adrenaline, and magically enhanced strength; users call the affect being “Fireballed.”
Cauldron Cakes [ ☠ ☠ ]
Cauldron Cakes are small, flaky pastry-like cakes of muck, typically brown or muddy green in color. They are made from the burnt leavings scraped from the inside of a cauldron after the Draught of the Living Dead is concocted. When eaten - users often allowing the foul-tasting cakes dissolve on their tongues - they cause a “down” high, often making the user sleepy and depressed.
Dragon Dust [ ☠ ☠ ]
The dust is actually a finely powered film made from poached dragon scales, typically of the Welsh Green. Typically thick and metallic, it is difficult to snort and users often mix it in drinks and ingest it instead, the subsequent high compared to that of muggle cocaine. To enjoy the high is called “being Dusted.”
Gillyweed [ ☠ ]
While outrightly ingested Gillyweed results in swim-enhancing body modifications, the Mediterranean plant can also be smoked, resulting in a high similar to marijuana but with more substantial effect. The plant can be raised with potions as an alternative to water, adjusting its effects and its taste to fit users’ preferences.
Hoover [ ☠ ☠ ☠ ]
Composed of a slimy, silvery liquid, Hoover is an ingestible substance that magically suctions air from a users’ lungs; the stolen oxygen is converted into a poison that then enters the takers’ bloodstream, allowing the taker to breathe after near suffocation, the poison producing an intense rush of euphoria. Its rapid effects have been known to cause users lose consciousness or even die before the substance could be converted to its oxygen-soaked second stage.
Mandrake [ ☠ ]
Devouring portions of raw mandrake - particularly when the plant has just entered its adolescence - produces a strong, sensual high; the slang term for those who engage in ingesting mandrake and then have intercourse to take advantage of its properties is “drakers,” and the act itself is called “draking.” The plant can also be dried and turned into a powder that can be snorted or smoked for similar highs.
Nemo [ ☠ ☠ ☠ ]
The most popular wizarding drug among young wizards/witches. Produced in several forms - a colorful tablet users melt in their mouths, an injectable liquid, a powder that can be snorted or smoked - its effects are many and varied, and often depend on the user. Because it is heavily based in magic, its allure is the discovery of its differing highs. To engage in the drug is called “finding Nemo,” coined after the popular muggle children’s movie.
