I'm a trumpet player and I’ve always loved the drum line. I’m in pit this year but I don't think that'll help. :T

I’m taking a percussion class instead of a study hall so I could always ask for my conductor to teach me.

Drums are a lot more technical than outsiders give them credit for. There's a lot to worry about, stick heights, technique, learning the rudimentals, learning to read percussion-style music(it's has it's differences from horn sheet music, just because of rudiment reasons).
It takes a lot of work, but it isn't impossible. It just depends on how much you're willing to practice.

Electric Impulses: Agreed.

Many people in my marching band say Drumline is basically so easy, since there's no notes. Like impulses said, we have to worry about stick hight, correct sticking, rudiments, etc. Our music is much different too. Our band uses a lot of fancy show stuff too. We twirl sticks or throw them up so I have some of my color guard friends to help. Also, for our last show, we had a part where everyone actually gathered together, put down their instruments and break out in dance. Our drums take too slow to take off and lay down so we had to go off on our own so we have our solo parts everyonce in a while.

Drumline might be hard for beginners but just practice a LOT and you'll be great too.
