The scarred up and ragged female cautiously maneuvered her way through the underbrush. She wasn't terribly far from the pack lands she had stumbled across, the kind she-wolf who had healed her wounds and insisted she stay. Then there had been that male . . . that male who had brought her fish. While her experiences with the pack had been minimal, they had been still been kind and that was something Xieros couldn't easily forget.

She was a wolf deprived of many things, but kindness was what hurt her the most. Starvation, physical wounds, none of that mattered. They didn't reach the place that hurt the most, the emptiness within her, the hollowness of low self-esteem and no sense of worth. She'd been granted a difficult life, and the bleakness seemed unending and eternal for the silver-eyed wolfess.

Moving quietly amidst the thick foliage of the woods, Xieros took comfort in the knowledge that daylight was fading earlier an earlier. Somehow she doubted she'd make it through the winter alone. She'd never done well on by herself, and yet, it was only when she was half-starved and alone that she didn't constantly have to fear things. Trouble seemed to find her only when she met others. . . .

Maybe it was her fate to always be alone.

A small stream called to her, and Xieros cautiously limped closer. She kept her tiny frame close to the ground as she slowly inched her way to the waters edge. Eyes wide and ever alert, she held her breath to make sure she was well and truly alone. Slowly, the muscles around her neck and shoulders relaxed as she dipped her head to the stream of water and drank.

For now. . . for just a moment. . . she could be at peace.

User ImageIt was hooooooot. Waaaaay too hoooooot. Even with his short-haired pelt, Adam found himself panting to cool down - and that was in the shade. For the moment Venda was away to have her alone time, as the young seer was soon finding was a healthy thing to give her - Venda was a creature with enough to think about that even his upbeat personality just wasn't welcome in certain moments. And to be frank, even Adam wanted his alone time every once in a while. Just a chance to not have to always be the one smiling for others.

It disturbed him, really, how many wolves he had met with some sort of troublesome situation. How many more still he might not reach in time.

He tried not to think so heavily and focused on immediate needs - namely, he needed to cool down, get a drink of water, and also clean himself form their trip thus far; various bits of dirt and leaf had clung to him, and his stench was on the rise. Thus, Adam thought as Adam often did and decided to solve all three problems in one simple action: that is, dunking himself into the river.

The water was much colder than expected, but it was a welcome relief. Bobbing to the surface, he delighted to find he was already being caught in the gentle current and decided to let himself just drift away for now - it wasn't as if the two seers couldn't find each other later anyway. Gulping down water, Adam gave a satisfied sigh and floated onto his back, eyes closed as the sun hit him.

Dog days weren't so bad if you could find a nice place to sit and relax~

Still, even that didn't last long. Several minutes into his little trip down the river, Adam felt an odd presence near its bank: another body of water, in the metaphorical sense, a genuine still and dark pool that trembled with each movement. It wasn't a very good feeling to sense, like knowing pain without feeling it. Adam wasn't keen on using his seer power again after knowing the raw pain of being mindscrewed, so he kept his curiosity restricted to only his normal senses for now.

Squinting against the sunlight, he sat up and saw what looked like a dilapidated skeleton, all black and white with - gulp - blood on its paws? But he didn't smell any blood . . . What an odd marking to have. Being that the current was lazy, he had plenty of time to assess the wolf. By now he might have projected his thoughts and mouthed along with them to give a semblance of talking, but he wanted to relax just a little bit more and instead kept a warm smile up for when the wolf did notice him.

Which was eventually, right? Unless she was blind . . . That'd be kinda awkward.

Thankfully for Adam, Xieros was far from blind. Of course, most of her attention was fully focused on the surrounding land, it never occurred to her to have to beware water! As she lapped up the refreshing drink, her silver eyes constantly looking around, they finally fell upon the floating, furry, log that was heading her way. The black and white female stopped mid drink, lifting her head as her ears pricked forward and her tail tucked beneath her. Surprise and curiosity caught her off guard, trying to figure out exactly what it was that was floating her way. But the moment she realized it was a wolf her defenses instantly rose and she began to take a few steps away from the waters edge.

It was unusual that she would stay, but the black and white female had to wonder if she was looking at a wolf who was swimming or just a body. And if the creature was alive, did they need help? But paranoia slowly began to give in and Xieros worried that it might be some sort of trap, some trick to get her relaxed.

It was terrible, really, because the black and white female plum didn't know what to do. She was torn. They didn't look like they were struggling, and there was a smile on the wolf's feature. . .and yet. . . her thirst hadn't been slacked and she didn't want to leave. If she tucked tail and ran the other wolf might take it as an initiation to attack. And if he needed help . . .well. . . Dropping down to her belly as Adam floated closer, Xieros allowed her ears to flatten tough she kept her muscles tense and her gaze focused solely on the mess of soaked fur before her.

She wanted to ask if he was all right - she'd never swam before and thus couldn't understand why a wolf would be in the water - but she just couldn't find her voice. The most she let out was a soft whimper. The closer Adam floated, the more distance Xieros was forced to put between them. Ever so cautiously she wriggled back away from the waters edge, uncertain of what the water-logged wolf would do next.

Hokay, so she could see him! Awesome; that made one of them. This poor specimen was hard-pressed to be seen in Adam's odd half-sight, and even if the sunlight hadn't been busy mucking it up he would have been squinting. Was it a . . . walking skeleton? Nah, the markings didn't match. Like a . . . weird . . . white gotten charcoaled thingie? Wait, why was he even trying to figure it out anyway? His own pelt didn't make sense!

Clearly, though, this one - a girl, he found by scent (once it wasn't waterlogged) - was very anxious about something, and her gaze seemed fixated upon him like he was the source. Huh. Maybe she was afraid he'd leap up and splash her or something? Well while the venture sounded terribly fun, the level of fear she was giving off decidedly pushed the thought away; he was a goofball, not an intentional teaser. Flicking water off his ears, he tried the smile again, staying in the water but paddling slightly to stay in place. 'Ohai there!' he greeted, moving his mouth along with the projected thought to give it the semblance of talking.

Not ever knowing what his voice sounded like, Adam had taken creative liberty and liked to test what he imagined when he spoke. Right now, it was the sound of a male he had found once as a pup, a curious adolescent who had wanted to climb a tree in order to investigate a raven nest's contents. He called himself a "sionteest" or something. Something like a girl would have been hilarious to try out, but something told him if he did something more out of the ordinary, he'd likely scare her off. 'How's you?'
