User ImageBusiness was at best . . . lax. She did not have as many of the imports as she had liked, and her slaves seemed to have grown accustomed to her leniency in that fact. Now things were beginning to become almost stagnant, and Mei was not going to have it. She had not come into the heart of Syria only to be another way-side shop visitors might poke the windows at but never enter! Her family might as well disown her right then and there.

As such, the hound was beginning to crack down on her policies, working her slaves hard into gathering materials or otherwise polishing the unbreakable - she had the misfortune of buying form the more clumsy-gene pooled of the felidae, and cursed her luck for it. But let no-one say that Mei was a quitter even when things were shattered! Whilst the trio of cats were busy in tasks she could only hope they would not butcher, she slipped out and decided to broaden her horizons a bit.

Rumors were that more hounds were about now. A jeweler had no distinct responsibility in knowing them all by face and name, but her noble upbringing compelled her to socialize with these possible customers. There was no guarantee that any one of them would be in Babylon of all tribes, but she could not risk leaving for too long. Enough for a possible conversation or two, yes, but nothing more . . . for now.

Those imports could only take so long after all.

Turning the corner into a less dense portion of the market, Mei narrowed her eyes against the sun, looking casual as she perused various items for sale.

It wasn't often that Ekaitz found herself outside of her native Giza, but on this day, she had, choosing to visit the neighboring Babylon. It was a nice city, in it's own way, and she wandered the market, hoping to find a trinket or two that would suit her fancy. Perhaps even a fancy collar for her new slave, whom she had left to guard her home, something that would show that he belonged to her.

Still, if she didn't find anything, it wouldn't be bad either; she had, after all, not come here planning on shopping. She grinned, turning into a less crowded area of the marketplace. Maybe she'd have better luck in this area, where she might be able to get to the stalls without having to push through a crowd.

There was a pretty hound looking over one of the booths, and Ekaitz moved closer to her, on the pretense of looking at the wares. "Pleasant day for shopping isn't it?"

User ImageHaqikah felt much more at ease walking the streets of Babylon with an obedient slave at her heels. A lady of her standing should have someone attending to her at all times, and before she bought her new slaves she was always second guessing what others thought when she ventured out to do some window shopping. But today was a beautiful day and she couldn't help but smile just a little bit at the sound of small paws following close behind. Akil had turned out to be a good purchase, and he had completed every task she had given him so far without fuss.

She needed to stock up on food for the slaves, but that was just an excuse to visit the market to see if she could find anything new and interesting for sale. Haqikah couldn't resist buying trinkets from time to time, especially if the saleshound assured her that this was a one of a kind piece that would impress on all her friends. It was no wonder that she never seemed to have many stones, but she hadn't seen the connection yet. To her it was just her bad luck that she had so little when others had so much.

And speaking of that... A glint of sparkling metal caught her eye and she was torn between admiration and jealousy as she noticed a female hound with an unusual scarab necklace and an assortment of other jewellery. Now that was just showy, she thought bitterly. Probably bought to take attention from her unsightly splotchy coat. Apparently she was exchanging pleasantries with a rather plain female hound.

But it wouldn't do to be impolite, even to those that clearly had unfair advantages in life. Connections were everything after all. Haqikah smiled a well practiced smile, pleasant but devoid of emotion, and approached the two hounds.

"Good day ladies," she said, and glanced back quickly to see if Akil would remember to stand at a respectful distance.

Good fortune allowed her to find conversational partners within minutes and, though she had not spoken to many hounds in some time, Mei's upbringing was hard to deny - forcibly socializing at a young age with the upper class of hounds made it impossible for her to avoid responding back. "Indeed. But not necessarily a good day for a critical eye," the hound replied, brow raising at a rather ill-polished piece of metal someone was attempting to pass off as an antique. Her rather OCD nature made her want to scrub it clean herself, but the best she could muster then was to turn her head and deny the object any further glances, instead now gazing at the duo-colored female speaking to her.

And apparently a third, also two-toned. Versed in observation (as she had to be in order to be jeweler, and from it stemmed the obsession with details), Mei noted with an inward sigh at the lack of genuine happiness in the curl-tailed hound's smile. Always politics, regardless of class . . . But Mei was one who liked to watch and not comment, keeping her judgments to herself as they compiled into neat, orderly folders in her mind. "Good day," she added with an incline of her head. "Are either of you new to Babylon per chance?"

"I recently moved in," Haqikah said, she decided against telling the other ladies the state of the neighbourhood and her house. It was only temporary after all. She's soon live in a home befitting her status. Deciding the tri-coloured hound was the more important of the two Haqikah turned to her with her next question.

"I take it you are familiar with Babylon," she said and followed her glance to the badly polished merchandise, "And familiar with the pitfalls of the market."
