"I-I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I-I-I wasn't doubting you at all. It's just all one has left to think about in such squaller. My death is the only thing that I had left to look forward too." His eyes glanced from Hyde back down to his paws trying to hold back tears. Being old he had learned how not to cry, not to show any weakness. No hound like that, no hound wanted that.

"I know you'll be a good master. I can read it in your eyes." He still averted his to his paws not at all daring to show the mist that was forming under the ducts. "I just want to die working hard and pleasing somebody." He looked about nervously as if he was missing his chance to go with the hound before him. "This is no place to live, for a hound or cat...and not a way anyone wants to die. Believe me being in this cage not having a purpose is worse then death itself."

He clearly hadn't caught what Ottah meant, but that was just as well and completely understandable, given the hound's tone and the quickness of his words. Perhaps he would become better at reading him with time, as he certainly didn't mean the way he came off, he just couldn't really help it. He had to be normal, after all, and this was the way he had been taught to be so. He scowled quietly at the silver furred feline that was caged before him. His mind was already made up, even before he had begun to profusely apologize.

"You know little of what you speak, reading my eyes, bah. A good slave does not meet the gaze of a hound. In your age, you should know this. Now quit your bellyaching. Tell me, how do you do with other felines, eh? I've got a rough and tough gal that will be serving as a preemptive guard for my office. She's going to need watching, if you get my drift, at least until I am sure she is trustworthy. I hope that it won't take long." He carried on, his tone still sharp and commanding, as if the cat before him had not even spoken about his own demise.

"I'm sorry once again." He squeaked out as small as a mouse. Who was he to put his own words before the hound in front of his wishes. The hound was right. He should have known better at his age. But the thought of his death sparked something that made him break his own high standards. He mulled back and forth then quickly pulled his attentions back to the front of the cage. He needed to focus. This was his change to die happy and he was going to blow it.

"Sir I work well with others. There isn't a feline I can't get along with." He based this off his experience at the spa. All the kittens were so nice and loving towards one another. None of them had a need to fight because they were all so well taken care of. "I see no reason there would need to be a disagreement between other felines."

"She isn't some soft-pawed spa feline, I can guarantee you that much." He spat quietly, but his simmering temper was finally starting to subside. There was no reason for him to take it out on this old fellow, although he did not want appearances to wane. It was a charade he had kept up most of his life and he wasn't about to change it now. He grunted, looking over the gray pelt and old paws once more. He wasn't shaking, still seemed to have good function...

"You might have seen her around. She is a tough one. Missing ear, only part of her tail. Like I said, a fighter. A fighter that needs to be molded into a fine slave. Another task of help that I get. I need eyes on her at almost all times. She strikes me as a crafty one, a plotter, but I have high hopes for her. Think you are capable of observing her, without letting her know, until I am confident that I can trust her completely?" Practically a done deal, of course. He was sure the cat would agree hastily, as he had to everything else thus far, but he felt the need to stress it for some reason. He thought he could handle her, but he needed to stay one step ahead of everyone if he was to make it completely and to keep up appearances.

"I will do my best to keep her in line with the highest of my functions." He after all wouldn't be fighting her if she raised a claw at him. He had no strength. But fighting cats often fell short on brain power so he just figured that he would out wit her with every move that she made. It shouldn't be that difficult after all with his intelligence.

"I will teach her good manners when I'm around her. And then she too will be a perfect slave." Though he wasn't quite sure at the moment how he was going to do it. He never trained another slave before. But it made him feel well that his hopefully new master trusted him with such a worthy task. "I will do me best for you. I promise that."

"All I ask is that you do your best to be a good influence on her." His tone seemed softer as he spoke to the elderly feline. Obviously he couldn't do too much in the way of controlling her and he could tell by her attitude that she was not only feisty, but rebellious at times, possibly even with those stronger than herself. If he was one looking to enter the arena, she would fit the bill quite well, but he wasn't interested in putting his merchandise directly in harms way. Now if she requested it, he might consider...

"Very well, Flint. I will be taking you with me. Familiar with Giza? I think the warmth of the sun and the sand will be good for your bones and your health, but I won't tolerate lazing about on the job, not at all. If I catch you shirking, you'll be working twice as hard. I won't mind you resting out there when given a break, however. Quite a pleasant place, if you ask me. Right then, I will have Mr. Hyde ready you for travel." He gave the silver cat a brisk nod and about faced, turning his back to Flint. If one were paying attention, his slender tail wagged slightly as he moved towards that stinking hyena to inform him of his decision. He would try to talk him out of it, no doubt, just as he had tried to do with Akila, earlier. Regardless, his mind was made up.
