You don’t need spinning heads, ancient languages and projectile vomiting to know someone’s been possessed. Sometimes all it takes is an uncharacteristically wicked smirk or an unfamiliarly dastardly gleam to realize someone’s not what they used to be.

Sometimes a death threat and a display of violence is more than a mental disease.

You’ve seen the exorcist, you’ve seen all the spin offs, the “true stories”, and it all seems like a bunch of religious hicks making up stories to explain why their kids have mental breakdowns. It’s always those small town kids that get stuck with demons…but maybe, just maybe, there’s a reason for that. Maybe those small town people are more susceptible because they’re more innocent. Maybe those small town people are more easily susceptible for some godforsaken reason.

Elijah Whilks was one of those small town kids. He grew up on the family ranch, raised cattle and went to church every Sunday. He wasn't exceptionally good, no saint or nothing, but he wasn’t bad either. He worked hard to get into a good school because even though he grew up on a farm didn’t mean he wanted to live on one the rest of his life. College was important to him, and for a while, it seemed the good lord was on his side. He was given a full ride scholarship to Boston University to study business and though leaving his family in Kentucky would be hard, everyone was happy to see him fulfilling his big city dreams. Eventually summer rolled in and Elijah went back to the rural ranch for his vacation. He seemed fine…for a while.

It started off small. He’d snap at people for little things, he’d sleep through church, refuse to help out the family, little things. As time went by, his crimes grew bigger. Anger would get the best of him. He’d wake up in the middle of the night screaming. His clothes grew darker. His speech grew sinister. Before anyone could do anything, Elijah, the boy who no one thought could hurt a fly, was more violent and vicious than a starved, ravenous wolf.

No one’s immediate reaction was the devil. Because even though country folk could be superstitious, they weren’t above mental illness. All the tests proved negative and by law he couldn’t be sedated.

Elijah was a different person, a monster. He’d get into people’s heads…in ways people couldn’t understand. He’d make you think you were crazy, saying you turned off the lights when you didn’t. He’d trick you and intentionally hurt you with a twisted grin on his face.

And when you spoke of God, he either blew up, or laughed uncontrollably.

After a while it became clear, Elijah Whilks, was possessed.
It's a shame no one but his family realized it.

So where does this leave us?

At a disaster.

This is what will happen.

Inevitably the duo will try to perform an exorcism...it doesn’t really go as planned and because of this the duo must stay for an extended period of time. The younger inexperienced member of the priestly duo ends up having to spend a lot of time with the possessed Elijah…who is surprisingly entertaining despite being very clearly evil. Things sort of turn out terribly wrong when the young, male, priest…starts to fall for the possessed boy. So many things are wrong with that statement. First off, they’re both boys…that speaks for itself. Secondly, he’s a priest…priests don’t have sex or get married or anything of the sort. Thirdly and most importantly…Elijah is possessed by a demon…so the younger priest isn’t falling for Elijah, he’s falling for the demon. The demon the priest is trying to drive out back into hell.
So what does he do? Love (somehow…through ways we will explore together) is hitting him hard and ruining his life. He has to exterminate this monster, but once he does he’ll no longer have what he wants most. So what will this young naive holy man do? Surely this decision would even make the lord himself furrow his brow.
