Dune couldn't help but smile at the scarred male, "I'm Dune." She said, after he'd apologized for something he couldn't control. Anything else she might have said was swallowed by the small commotion as other slaves pipped up to talk the stupid striped feline down. Silently she agreed with them, the silly hard headed Hakuro would earn them all a beating, just for being around him. Conspiring with him, even though they all clearly were against his ideas. Can't trust a feline not to do what they wanted even against the paw that feeds them. Or so her first Master used to mutter as he'd eye her and her litter mates.
She was a smart feline, though young and naive. She didn't want to end up crippled or scarred and tossed back here to spend the rest of her days chained in a pen in the heat with little food. So she bided her time, waiting, and tried to puzzle out the real reason why Hakuro was the way he was.

"Kitten"! Like that was the most insulting thing the geezer could come up with. Pfff. Another kid. He thinks I'm just a regular kid with a chip on his shoulder! Just average. The insulting sonufabitch thought that just because he wasn't standing there chainless that he wasn't being serious! Hakuro's fur bristled, and he flattened his ears as he glared at the elder slave. "Like you have any right, old man!" he growled. "Like you can sit there and preach to me about what's smart and what ain't. How old're you, huh? And yer still wearin' those - those things! Don't you dare talk to me about freedom when you don't even know what that is!"
So it was that this cat's temper easily was baited when he was left unsupported. Many sat there and listened, and not one soul believed him. It drives a creature to desperate yelling to gather allies. Hakuro never was a very bright one, as several had already observed.
"I don't care how long it takes, I ain't gonna be pushed around like some flea-bitten rat they like to poke and prod till they're bored! You all can just sit and twiddle your toes and say 'O thank you, wonder sir, kind miss, thank you ever so much for takin' me from one hell t'tha next, I'll be a good good slave, you'll see', but you'll never hear me say surr-"
Yoink. The chains rattled suddenly, and Hakuro found that his forepaws were barrely brushing the ground. You see, this was not the first time he had been found spouting nonsense to the surrounding cages, and this was in fact his third relocation in the Black Market. Tired of hearing the rebel's rambles, a thick chain and collar had been added to his neck for the duration of his stay in Zanzibar. The hyena on duty, one of Hyde's employees, was a burly fellow with enough strength to lift him nearly clean off the ground when he stood on his hindlegs and grasped the collar's chain in his teeth.
So was Hakuro's punishment - nearly choking on the pressure of the hot metal against his jugular, he spasmed in place and made an arrangement of gasping noises, his throes growing weaker. When the hyena saw fit, he let go of the chain and the slave fell to his belly in the mud. For good measure, as this hyena was getting seriously tired of listening to babble, he pressed a paw into Hakuro's back and denied him air a few seconds more as mud was forced into the slave's open mouth and nose; thankfully, his eyes were closed.
Finished, the guard grunted and stepped back, flicking mud of hiss paws as he scoped the group of cats imediately before him. "Anyone else?" he grunted.

Flint just watched the Hyena inflict his torture onto the kitten. Serves him right- better to learn his lesson then to end up dead. He much wanted to shout out how much he would have enjoyed him stomping on him once more- but he knew that wasn't his place to talk. That wasn't the place of a cat. A cats place was to serve his hound loyally and be thrown out like trash. Sure he was rather frustrated being relocated to Zanzibar to be under the care of the Hyena; but again it wasn't his place to put up a fight.
He watched as the Hyena scanned the cages as all the cats seamed to act like him and not speak up one word for the stupid whelp in the center. Finally he left but kept a watchful eye on the group wary to return and punish any sign of trouble. Flint came to the end of the cage and looked at the pathetic beast infront of him.
"See the trouble ye get yourself into kitten. Your never going to get yourself a nice master if ye go about that way. Hell your never going to LIVE past Hyde if you keep that up. And ye speak freedom. How are those bruises doing ye kitten?"
He taunted with a harsh tone. Perhaps he could rile the cat up to get another beating. He didn't really want to or enjoy it. But if that was the ONLY way to teach him how to behave then so be it. At least if he felt enough pain he might calm down and think about his actions.
"So kitten what were ye saying about proving a point to those Hyenas?"
His voice grew lower and colder not wishing to receive a beating himself.
"Dosen't look like ye dun much."

Hakuro’s voice got louder and his actions were quick to bring the expected consequence. Akil hissed under his breath instinctively as the rebellious slave gasped for air before immediately retreating to the back of the cage, hoping he hadn’t been heard and wanting nothing more than to go unnoticed within the slave population at this particular moment. Still, the brown and white cat growled quietly as Hakuro’s mouth and nose were kept under the mud feeling just a little sick by the cruel spectacle. The punishment of slaves always seemed to cause a visceral reaction in him but thankfully Akil’s sound earned him nothing more than a nasty bang on his cage as the hyena left. There was a light shiver on his front paws and his ears seemed to have been perpetually glued to his head but Akil took one slow step forward. He listened to the older slave with an anguished expression. Kitten, kitten, kitten.
“Enough.” He pleaded to the silver cat before returning to the door of his enclosure placing his muzzle between the bars. “Hakuro?” he called softly, distress quickly growing in his tone as his voice became more insistent. “Hakuro?”

Akila's eyes narrowed and her ears flattened to the back of her skull as the Hyena jerked Hakuro up by his chain, she had already had her fair share of run in's with the Hyena's though and she didn't want another scar across her flank. What could you do anyways? Chained up as they were it didn't seem to make a difference how defiant they were, as Hakuro clearly was proving. Her 3/4ths of a tail flicked back and forth widly in annoyance as the hyena left and she too pressed her face towards the front of the cage as she looked at the striped male that was pressed into the mud. She coughed loudly as the Hyena turned around and looked at them, trying to mask the brown and white cats whispers.

The earth colored feline winced as she watched Hakuro get what had been coming to him. Just because she thought the male foolish and filled with hot air hadn't meant that she thought his punishment was justified. Her ears folded flat against her skull as she sank down to her belly. When the hyena's gaze swept across the cages she kept hers trained to the ground. Stay small, submissive, pathetic they'll ignore you. Her Momma had whispered before she'd been taken away.
The tricks worked and other then one feline getting his cage rattled Dune noticed no one else had been bothered with. Slowly she crept forward, as far as her chain would allow, and stretched a paw through the bars. "Hakuro?" She whispered, ears flicking towards the one feline that was coughing. Fake fake fake, her mind whispered and she knew then what the other was trying to do.
She pulled her paw back in and resumed her former sprawl, and instead let out a low distressed moan. The hyena's on guard were paying a little more attention to them now. A pity since she wanted to know if the mouthy feline was alright, but not enough to earn a beating over.
But at least watching the spectacle had cooled her off considerably. Another chill ran down her spine at yet another sign of cruelty from a member of the canine species.
