Hollo again Resonance! biggrin

It's been ages since I last posted here... I got school to to take care of xd Well now I graduated BSIT[Information technology] and working as a full time artist for a company.

Working as a commercial artist isn't a walk in the park, Quality, Quantity, in-depth and Inhuman Speed is what they demand from us... there are times that I manage to pass 10 complete illustration in just a day[Office minimum quota] and I am lucky if half of it passed the quality control. Making raw images, editing & cropping images and designing backgrounds is not a problem, but when you are assigned to make/conceptualize logos, advertising illustrations and anything related makes your life a living hell.

Work goes on smoothly, until I 'spaced-out' or 'mental-block', this is my biggest problem so far... the only way for me to fight this is to eat and smoke a lot. At present I am gaining a lot of weights, my pants won't fit anymore and now I am capable of smoking 2 packs of cigarette a day. People in my department are either very thin or very fat, but we all smoke a lot... this is not a good lifestyle is it? The pay is good, in 20 years from now at this rate... I will be sitting pretty, But I am just thinking what would I look like by that time sweatdrop

So Resonance, Has anyone of you made it? How did you survive and live a healthy lifestyle or you knew someone who does, like your relatives perhaps? I would really appreciate to hear that. Thank you.

Okies, now for some Illustrations I did since 2009 to 2010:

2009

Odin Sphere
Commission I made back then, this is the PG-13 version... don't ask me about the adult version kekekekekekeke.

Bacchanalia:
Intended to make a group of people celebrating Bacchanalia, but I got tired along the way and just framed what I had finished and gave it the title "Nymph & Satyr"

Tablet & Photoshop CS

User Image

2010

some of my chibi dolls from my Gaia shop, I had a lot of fun working on these clients.

Photoshop CS3

User Image

Baphomet

This is an art collaboration with my cousin and one of my officemate. It is really fun working on this, since we've done it during lunch hour... and were on time pressure but manage to complete it on time twisted

Tech and Gel ink pen

User Image

The Black Butler

A birthday gift I gave to someone special this Sept 4 2010. This is her favorite character, Sebastian Michaelis.

Photoshop CS5[I did it while I am at the office]

User Image

Cosplay Ichigo Kurosaki
My friend did a cosplay with Bleach character Ichigo.

User Image

SteamPunk
Just designing a character, there will be a lot of changes as the character develops. any fashion critique will be helpful.

User Image

I guess that would be enough, I am afraid I can't show any illustrations I did at the office since I am bound by contract... and probably none of you would find it interesting blaugh

I managed to get my foot in the door shortly after I graduated from a Graphic Design school. Just as you said, it wasn't a glamorous job. It didn't take long for me to realize that freelancing was the way to go. Everything is done at my own pace and I choose who to work with.

Unfortunately, recent events with school has sidelined that for a long while. Once I get my computer graphics degree, I'll get back into it again.

Freelancing is very appealing, but once an artist get to taste all the privileges a company/conglomerate has to offer, I don't think they'll want to go back to freelance... we make artworks for living. In a company, you might fail to get some bonuses and incentives for some reason, maybe because you are not in a top notch condition to work... you still got your monthly wages. I am a regular in the company I work in[took me 6 months & 3 months paid training] if I had a 'sick leave' or 'emergency leave' I still get paid during my absence. That is just the tip of the iceberg wink

But alas it's not easy getting in. there are several BFA graduates who didn't last long... it's either I am just lucky or really determined to get there.

Go for it mate, you might not get famous in commercial art, but you'll not worry about financial matters.

......................

So now, what can be done with eating & smoking a lot? how can we prevent "spaced-out/Mental-block" at work?
