"There's a creepy old house on Domino Hill, just outside of town! Have you seen it?"
"Yea! It's a big, old, scary-looking mansion! It's even got twisted old trees! Creepy!"
"You never see anyone going in or out, and no one's ever gonna buy that house, or the land it stands on!"
"Well, that just seems silly!"
"Know what I heard?"
"What?"
"Some kid, from Domino High, was murdered in that house!"

The old house on Domino Hill had a foreboding nature to it. The kind that just said 'Keep Out' without anyone ever actually having to put up a sign. Sadly, but also somewhat expectantly, it was quite the stomping ground for curious teenagers. All those in Domino City knew of the place, but not everyone was sure of why it was there or who lived there. However, anyone brave enough to make the trek was usually disappointed to find a rather cold, empty house whenever they went inside. Rumors circulated that the place was haunted, but if it truly was, the ghosts there were not very interested in whoever happened to come in or leave. It might have stayed like that, but as usual, someone had to take things a little too far...

"Okay, did you pack everything?" asked a very feminine voice, belonging to a one Anzu Masaki. Anzu was not much to write home about, she had short, brown hair, blue eyes and was fairly tall. However, she was known to be a very nice girl, valuing her close friends very dearly. Yet, most were surprised to find that she had an interest in occult things. She often had her palm read and loved to use a Ouija board from time to time, but she had never done anything as big as what she was about to attempt. Her heart raced as she watched the bulky man in front of her stuff item after item into his bag. The man in question, was the school hall monitor, Ushio. Ushio was rather large for his age, towering over all of the other students. He had dark hair and pinprick eyes that made him look a lot more intimidating. Unbeknown to anyone else, Anzu had hired Ushio for the very project she was about to undertake. She never counted herself as a coward, but she wanted to at least have a little bit of protection when she finally did what she was about to do. Next to him, a much smaller person, a young girl with misty blue hair named Miho. Miho was not really interested in going anywhere but shopping malls, but Anzu had asked her if she would come and keep her company on the trip. And since the two were rather close friends, Miho simply could not refuse. The final two members of their group had not yet arrived, but they had heard of Anzu's little plan, and very quickly agreed that they both wanted in! Still, as school had ended and they had still not shown up, Anzu was beginning to wonder if she had picked the right crew for the job in the first place! It was so hard to find good help!

"I got it, I got it!" Ushio barked in responce. He didn't like taking orders, even if he was being paid. Stand up off the ground, he swung his backpack over his shoulder, all of the items he planned to use accounted for. "There's just one problem." His voice sounded grim.

"Well, what is it?" Anzu barked back in a snarky tone. Ushio just rolled his eyes and held out a strange book.

"I reread the chapter last night. It says we need one more man for this to work."

"WHAT?" She shirked, tearing the book from his hands. "It said we only need five people!"

"Five people, and one sacrifice!" he corrected. "Only the humans outside the center are considered 'people'." Although his face did not show it, he felt a deep sense of pride for shoving something in his temporary bosses face. Anzu took no notice, as in her panicked fury, she began to pace about uncontrollably.

"Just, wait here!" she ordered finally. "I'm going to go scourer the halls, I'll see what I can find!" And with that she was off. She wasn't really looking for a sacrifice, she could never be that cruel...

Could she?

In reality, she was pacing the halls in a poor attempt to calm herself down. She had planned this for months and never once did it occur to her to double check for something like this! It infuriated and saddened her at the same time. Little hot tears poured from her eyes as she looked ahead down the hall...

And that's where she spotted Yugi.

The young teenager didn’t even notice the girl’s presence as her footsteps trickled down the hallway. His bright blonde hair covered one of his eyes as he leaned in towards the desk, taking a closer look at the mystery in front of him. This one was taking longer than he’d thought, and it didn’t even have that many pieces left. The Millennium puzzle was proving to be very difficult today. But that wasn’t going to stop Yugi. Blowing the stray hairs from his line of vision irritably, fingers felt the pointed edges of the hard metallic object as he felt around for the best place for it to slot in. Click. The golden object shone, almost in delight as Yugi rubbed a thumb over the completed edge. It was actually starting to take a proper shape now, and his determination only grew.

Yugi had always been enthralled in games and puzzles, which didn’t make it unusual for him to be sitting there a good half an hour after class had gone out still sorting out the end of one. It just seemed as if he was caught up in how own little world where things would, slowly but surely, slide into place eventually. Click. His eyes lit up for a moment as he muttered to himself. “There we go, I knew you would go in around here…”Usual purple eyes narrowed in concentration as his hand drifted to the ancient box again, retrieving another piece. Glancing at the shape he continued. Click. That one was a lot easier than the last one, perhaps the next piece would be more of a challenge. Click. Yugi was on fire, he was set on finishing the Millennium Puzzle today, no matter what!

The puzzle had been sitting in his grandfather’s basement for years, Yugi knew that well. He would be asked to go down there many times, mainly because his grandfather was too old and his eyes weren’t that good the teen would always oblige and get whatever the old man needed. Everytime he would see the golden box glint at him through the darkness just as Yugi would be leaving the small dark room. And everytime he would ask about it his grandfather would tell him the same story. “Oh, I picked that up when I went on my trip to Egypt…” Well, it would always start like that but it would end with some extravagant tale of mystery through the desert land, and the two, caught up in the mans’ tales, would forget about the puzzle, slowly growing dusty. Eventually Yugi brought the box back up with him and asked what the story was behind the puzzle. His grandfather said it was a secret, and he would keep it that way unless... Yugi solved it.

Click.

Yugi had always been very curious.

“Yugi…stuck on something again?” Rubbing the tears with the back of her hand she placed it against the doorframe. Partially to hide the fact she was crying she gave the smaller boy a curious look.

Shouldn’t he had been at home some time ago?

Hearing the girl’s voice he picked it instantaneously. Anzu! The name caught in his throat as he kept his eyes on the puzzle, not daring to look up to her. He felt a small smile across his features. Anzu wasn’t the prettiest girl in the class but for Yugi it was a different story. She was always so kind and always talked to him, even though most of the time he himself wasn’t too sure what to say back to her. “O-oh, uh…yeah…” His voice sounded uneasy in the silence of the classroom, the puzzle piece fell from his fingertips and clattered on the table loudly. Anzu’s eyes immediately looked down at the bizarre jigsaw in front of the teen with an even curiouser look. Picking up the discarded piece carefully he followed Anzu’s sight and slid it back where it was resting.

Click.

“I couldn’t just leave it half finished…guess I lost track of time…” His words were quiet, he held the puzzle between two hands as he weighed it experimentally. His smile grew as he looked across its surface, it was almost finished! “Whaa…It looks so ancient and mysterious, don’t you think?” He glanced up at the girl gestering to the item with a nod of his head.

Shaking a little from her run down the hall, Anzu stood in the door, watching Yugi fiddle with his unusual trinket. It looked like a gold puzzle, built into a strange shape like it could stand up. Yugi was right, it did look very ancient and it was very mysterious in air. ”It’s… it’s nice Yugi,” she whispered softly as she approached him. Lucky for her, Yugi was far too shy to look at her. It was rather charming actually, him being so gentle. Her voice was calm, even if she was not. Steadying her body, she looked him over, slowly pacing toward him. The boy was so innocent, so very kind. It would be wrong of her to ask anything of the adorable little man. Hell, what she wanted to ask was wrong to ask of anyone! Maybe, it just wasn’t meant to be. ”You’re always so engrossed in these kinds of things.” If she had been in a better mood, she would have asked all kinds of questions about the object. If nothing else, she would have had the courage to talk to Yugi and not feel guilty.

I can’t do it! she scolded herself harshly. It’s just… it’s just wrong! Why was she feeling so guilty? She wasn’t going to ask Yugi anything. She had no reason to feel like she was feeling. Soothingly, she placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to calm the stuttering little one. Yugi had a calming nature too him, even when he was worked up. The little blush on his cheeks was rather adorable, bringing Anzu out of her mood and enjoying a chance to watch him work.

It’s not right.

She smiled lightly. As she opened her mouth to speak again, she heard a sound coming from her pocket. PiPiPiPi! It was her cell phone. Ushio was still outside and his number was on the call log.

I just can’t!

Quickly, she shoved the phone back into her pocket, turning off the sound. ”I’m sorry, that was…” She couldn’t say. ”I… I have to go…”

It’s… not fair…

Anzu tried to rush out, making it almost to the door, before stopping. She didn’t turn around, she didn’t want Yugi to see her cry.

Well, we do need six people… Maybe he could just… come along?

She sniffed a little.

Well, there's not harm in just asking, is there?

”Hey Yugi,” she said, turning back to him once she had regained her composure. ”Would you… like to come with me somewhere?”

The boy’s head drifted a little when he heard Anzu speak. With another Click the puzzle was almost complete. Only a few little pieces left! It was only yesterday he had looked through the remaining sections and thought the whole thing was an impossible task to finish. He fumbled with the object the moment the girl put her hand on his shoulder.

O-oh gosh she’s watching me now! It’s my chance to shine, I’ve gotta look like I know what I’m doing. Well, I already do know, there’s only a handful of pieces left…

Click. He opened his mouth to say something and- nothing came out. Except her phone started to ring. Smooth move Yugi… Closing his mouth quickly he looked over only to see the back of her brown hair swaying as she walked through the door. Real smooth. Feeling the small piece in his fingers he snapped it onto one of the corners of the puzzle. Click. Rubbing the piece with a small sense of satisfaction he sighed quietly. Anzu was probably busy, so many people want to talk to her, to be with her all the time. It wasn’t fair, somedays he wished she would- could even spend a little bit of time with him. Click. He dipped his hand into the container where he felt- nothing? He lifted his head over to the box and fished out an awkward looking section. The eye of horus looked back at him as he held it between two fingers. Staring back at the golden piece in awe he almost didn’t hear Anzu’s voice.

Placing the piece down he actually looked back at the teenage girl, taking a moment to register what she had just said. His eyes lighting up at the sound of her voice he nodded slightly. Go- with Anzu? Somewhere? Where would they go? Is this like a date? Oh- don’t rush into conclusions…but it could be… Yugi’s head swam with situations, ideas and so many questions.

“Sure Anzu…my grandpa isn’t expecting me home anytime soon…” Which wasn’t necessarily a lie. After all, his grandpa would be anything but annoyed if he turned down a date with a pretty girl- well, the pretty girl in Yugi’s eyes. His smile couldn’t have gotten any wider even if he tried- Yugi looked back down at the puzzle in front of him and slid the final piece into place, tapping it in with a finger it fit like a glove. Laughing gently under his breath Yugi picked up the now complete Millennium Puzzle with satisfaction. Looking at it left and right, he placed it next to the container the pieces were held in and looked between the two. “And what perfect timing, it’s finished!” Picking up his bag from the side of the table his hands quickly shoved the golden container inside. He stood up, almost throwing his backpack on he nearly fell over. Grinning sheepishly he grabbed the golden puzzle, looking over at Anzu from his shoulder hoping the blush on his face wasn’t too obvious. “So…what…do you have in mind?”

Could things get any better? I finally finished the puzzle AND Anzu practically asked me out- maybe dinner than the movies! That would be neat! Oh, but I don’t have much on me…maybe we can have some takeout and go to the park… The small teen couldn’t help but plan the possibilities out. It wasn’t every day things would be going so well for the teen, it felt good to get out of the house and doing something with someone- a girl, even! He turned towards the doorway looking back at her eagerly, the smile never leaving his face.

((OOC: Sorry fixing up posts now, I want to make sure they look pretty n_n; ))

There was no worse feeling than deceiving a friend and that was exactly how Anzu felt at that very moment. By the trembling in Yugi's delicate voice, she could tell what he was really expecting to happen on this trip. "It's beautiful, Yugi," she said, looking over his handy work. It really was remarkable. The thing had to be more than 3000 years old, and from what Anzu could see earlier, it looked downright impossible for the layman. As they sauntered to the door, she thought of an excuse to make him feel better. "Well, you see, my... friends and I were going to this house... and, I'm a little scared, but I figured if you came I wouldn't be so afraid..."

Lightly, her hand drifted over to Yugi's side. Deep down, she really was scared. While she fancied the occult and had some experience under her belt, this was a whole new ballgame. And Yugi was so sweet! Who could ever harm someone so delicate? "And, um..." the hand she extended slipped around to clasp Yugi's. "I think... We could get something to eat first... my treat! Anywhere you like!"

HA! As if that really makes up for it!

She smiled down at him, but said nothing more as they proceeded to the front door of the school. Outside, Ushio was still there, checking his watch and fussing. At least he wasn't alone. The two remaining contenders had shown up; A class clown by the name of Hiroto Honda, who had come simply because he heard Miho was also going, and the hotshot blond, Jounouchi Katsuya. They were all squalling about something, as to be expected. Honda and Jounouchi were close friends of Anzu's, but neither of them liked Ushio very much. In all honesty, Anzu didn't like him either. He was very uptight and strange, not to mention massive. He wasn't someone to pick a fight with. So, naturally, Jounouchi was picking a fight! "-aying is that it's not true! Your making that up!" The blond's words were distant, becoming more clear as they approached. Anzu paid them no mind as she approached.

Almost instantly as she came closer, the bickering came to halt. In fact, everyone in the group has stopped talking completely! All eyes were fixed in Anzu's direction... More specifically, directly on Yugi. In their minds, they all knew the truth. Not one of them could believe Anzu had recruited someone as timid and shy as Yugi for such a horrible task. "A-Anzu!" Jounouchi whispered.

"Shut up Jou!" Anzu barked at him. Her voice was loud and angry, but one glance at her face and Jou, ash she affectionately called him, knew the story. She had a tear streaked face, her eyes and lips quivered. Yugi was blissfully unaware of this quick exchange as Anzu glanced down at him and smiled. "Got to bully them sometimes to make 'em behave!" Jou's face fell into a false scowl. Time to follow the story. Poor Yugi. He had no clue. "These are my friends, Jou, Honda and Miho," Anzu smiled, pointing them out one by one. "They're coming with us to the... house." And with that, she marched out ahead of them, still holding tightly onto Yugi's hand. She couldn't look her pals in the face right now. Her feet hurried along down the street, leaving everyone else in the dust.

Jou looked back at Ushio. "How did Anzu get that shrimp Yugi to agree to this? It’s just sick!" Ushio just glared as he started to head in the direction Anzu had taken off.

"I don't know dork! I'm just here until I get paid! And don't get on my nerves, or I'll have Anzu switch you with Yugi!" Unexpectedly, Jou said nothing more, and followed along after Ushio with the rest of the group.

~Meanwhile~

Anzu finally let go of Yugi, letting him pick a spot to sit down while she got him a meal.

His... last meal...

When the group finally caught up with her, Ushio joined her in line. If Yugi was getting food, he was getting some out of Anzu too! Unable to make a real decision, Jou simply walked over to where Yugi sat and decided to at least offer the kid a little sympathy. "Uhh... hey." It was all he could really think of. IN all of his years at high school, Jou had never really been nice to Yugi, or had even really put forth the effort to talk to the kid. Yugi had a reputation for being invisible, Jou had a reputation for being loud and obnoxious. In this moment, he thought about all the times he had seen Yugi and thought of him as a wimp or a little squirt. Knowing what Ushio had told him about this mysterious sixth person who was needed, Jou felt a lot of shame and regret for thinking so unkindly of him

He just had to say something. "So, uh... Lookin' forward to this?" It wasn't much, but it could get a conversation going, couldn't it?

((OOC: No sweat ^^. I left both Honda and Miho open if you want to play one of them :3))

She’s scared about going to this house…it’s probably that haunted one on Domino Hill do doubt. Curiosity killed the cat, but it wouldn’t hurt to take a look… With a group of people, it would definitely be a lot safer. Yugi was actually slightly interested to see what exactly was inside that place- and with that Yugi found himself swept up in the wave of people. It was all a little overwhelming, but the boy didn’t mind. Anzu wanted him to be there and that’s all that mattered.

What did matter though, was Anzu was paying! That’s not right, it’s always the guy who should pa- and again, before the small teen could even make a word of protest he was pushed down to a seat. He slumped into his seat, readjusting his grip on the golden item. Pulling the bag off his back Yugi tried to shove the puzzle into his bag as subtly as possible- now that it was complete it took up a little more room than before. Pausing, he looked over to see the blonde man- Jounouchi Katsuya. Between him and Honda they always got up to so much at school. Yugi didn’t want to get into too much trouble with them- but they were friends with Anzu, they couldn’t be that bad, then…

“O-oh yeah of course-” The teen was interrupted by a laugh followed by a loud slurp from the side. “How could you not be excited- we’re going to the mansion!” Honda gripped his soda with one hand as he slid down to the seat next to the spiky haired teen. Jou gave him a look that could only be described as unpleasant, he ignored it and glanced back at the small figure next to him. Yugi’s always so quiet in class, never really stands out or anything… why would Anzu…? His thoughts quieted down as he strained to hear Yugi speak over the noise of the restaurant.
“Yeah...it looks interesting!” Yugi put on a brave smile, shoving his bag to one side, moving away to make more room as Miho sat down next to the brunette. “Miho thinks it's kinda scary, too…” Miho added, leaning near Honda with a slightly worried expression on her face. She was quite anxious about going into a haunted house, she didn’t like this stuff at all- but if Anzu was going…

Honda chuckled, nudging her with an elbow reassuringly. “S’fine, as long as you’re with us you’ll be nice and safe!” He saw the blonde roll his eyes at him and raised his eyebrows in the exchange. Miho’s so cute when she’s scared! Next thing she’ll see a spider and come running back to me- it’s brilliant…Yugi on the other hand felt just as reassured as Miho did- he sighed quietly, easing into the conversation. That was until he felt a tray slide across the table, purple eyes looked over to see Anzu at the other end of the table sitting next to Jounouchi with a gentle smile. He nodded gratefully and took a small sip. Standing next to the table Ushio loomed over the group, burger in one hand, drink in other as he took a bite. Honda gave a curious look to his blonde friend, he nodded and saw Anzu, who bought a meal but hadn’t even attempted to eat any of it. Gosh she must feel real horrible about doing this…I do too, but…what choice do we have…? He cleared his throat, grinning innocently at her as he took a few french fries from her tray. “So, what’s the plan, Anzu?” Honda asked, eating one of the fries. How is she going to tell Yugi- I mean, she can’t just keep him in the dark about it...

((OOC: I’ll do both of them C: Btw Anzu is so mean, how could she do this to widdle Yugi! *sniff* lol.))

After gently offering her meal to Yugi and Jounouchi to split (And smacking Honda's hand away from stealing more fries) she glanced around, apparently looking at the crowd around her. In reality, her guilt had gotten the better of her and she was worried about who was going to know...

"Well," he began, turning back to the group. "The plan is to go... explore the house on Domino Hill. You know, see if it really is haunted..." As she spoke, her voice trailed off, her eyes drifting over in the direction of Ushio. Their eyes met. Its wasn't a tender moment; Anzu seemed to lower her head back a little bit. "I've... always wanted to check it out..." She was having regrets about hiring such a bulky brute. In all honesty, she wanted to fire him, but two factors stopped him. One was she needed him to help with the plan. The other was simply because she was afraid of what he would do to her otherwise. Or worse, what she might do to her friends. I'm sorry Yugi, but I'm just too scared...

A pang hit Jou. It sickened him that Anzu didn't have the guts to tell Yugi the truth, but he was even more disgusted that she didn't have the courage to stand up against Ushio. Glaring at the beast of a man, he turned his attention back to his meal. "I gotta say, it's pretty ballzy of you to come along wit us Yugi! Most kids are scared a' dat place!" Smiling a little, he took a bite out of his burger. It wasn't a prank, Yugi really impressed him. Especially since he had always pegged Yugi as the timid kid who hid in the back of the class talking to himself.

For a while, conversation ensued among the group as they enjoyed the meal together. Ushio paid no mind to everyone else, finding more comfort in keeping to himself that chatting with the group. Him aside, however, the rest of them enjoyed getting to know one another. None of them had ever had a chance to really interact with Yugi, nor did any of them know that he was really an interesting person! Even Anzu seemed to be easing up. Among the smiles and laughter, it seemed like nothing could go wrong with any of them.

The jubilation continued even after they left the restaurant. As the day wore on and they approached the hill, however, the chatter calmed down. Dusk was upon them as they reached the old, foreboding home. The front gates of the mansion were the old fashioned, black-rust colored gates, with think vines growing all over them. The lawn had not been cut in years; it was thick, like bushes. The actual bushes on the lawn were extra bulky, having gone decades with out proper gardening. The twisted trees covered the old, dust covered windows. Enormous old panes set against rusty-red brick walls were also covered with climbing ivies. As the sun was setting, the place emitted a very cold feeling, light frothy fog bubbling up around the entrance to the massive place. "Woh," Jou whispered as the approached the door. "Ya'know, they say a kid got killed in dis house."

"Don't say that Jou!" Anzu hissed! Her voice quivered a little, indicating the place was scaring her a bit. Yugi would know very soon what was really frightening her...

Lightly, she gripped the massive handle, giving it a tug. At first, nothing happened. The door was not locked, it was just so rusted and old that it didn't work so well anymore. She pulled once more, still getting nowhere. Ushio rolled his eyes and pushed himself in front of her, grabbing the handle and practically ripping the door off it's hinges. A loud crack and a sound of rust and shattering came as the massive door opened wide. Inside was the main hall, covered in beautiful furniture, smothered in inches of dust. Six doors lined the walls, all of them closed, along with a set of double stairs, leading into the rooms upstairs. The banisters of the stairs matched the furniture, both in style and in layers of dust. The floor was hard wood, with a red carpet draped lazily across it. On the ceiling, a massive chandler of gold and crystals. Many of the crystals were chipped or broken, some were even missing. The gold had no been polished in years. The whole room had the same chilly feeling as outside.

For a moment, everyone marveled at the lovely (though old) style of the house. Ushio reached over to the side of the door, attempting to turn on the lights. Nothing happened. "No electricity. Better start the preparations early, before it gets too dark." Anzu shot Ushio another dark look, before looking back to everyone else.

"Alright everyone, I need some help here," she instructed. "We need to find the largest room in the house. Jou, you take the doors under the stairs. Ushio, take this side, Honda, and Miho you take the other end. Yugi, we can look upstairs! When you find the room, got get everyone else and we'll get started!" Jou and Ushio nodded, departing for their respective rooms. Anzu took Yugi by the hand and walked him upstairs. She stepped lightly, wanting to help him along, not make him too suspicious. At the top of the steps, she released his hand. "You check the rooms on this side, I'll take this hall." With her smile ever present, she expected Yugi to have a couple questions. Sweetly, she bent down and kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Be careful, okay? And come find me if you find a really big room, okay?" and with that, she took off down the other end of the hall, disappearing into one of the rooms in the hall. Please forgive me Yugi... I'm so sorry...

Unbeknown to Anzu, down the hall she asked Yugi to inspect was a bedroom. Sitting on the very old bedding was a young man, who was crying...

(Yes.. yes she is :3)
