Nirvani island was about as average as most islands can be. So average, in fact, that few even knew of it's existence. The people, however, didn't mind that one bit. They were content to worship their own goddess and her fairies peacefully, making a few trips to the city for basic commodities that an island simply couldn't offer on it's own. For the most part, the town was a rather reclusive one, no tourists to come bother them on the prettiest times of the year for there was nothing here that couldn't be found in greater access elsewhere. The tiny island was merely a patch of simplicity in the expanse of ocean.. Well, that is, until the hurricane. Praying to their deities did little to stop the wind and water wrecking through their village, killing few, but leaving everyone without the most basic of their possessions. Businesses were collapsed, pets and livestock lost, the forest itself torn up from it's roots, with only the shrines to be left untouched. Several separated to different areas of the island, some staying behind in town to attempt to rebuild and go back to how life was before, as others went to beg the goddess and their guardian fairies for aid in their time of need. It took a good few months before a soul gave up. But, once one announced they were leaving, it wasn't long before everyone decided to as well. Denouncing the goddess and her fairies – blaming her for allowing the hurricane and not bothering to help when they needed it most, the town left for the mainland, leaving Nirvani barren of human life.
The flood of people coming into the city was a major topic there, curiosity peeking around to wonder just where these angered and saddened people had come from. Everyone had a different story to tell of their whereabouts, but the only rumor that held much interest beyond what it was to anyone was that there was an island. An island without ownership – a whole plot of land with no one to own it. Gaston Sonata, often described as a rich p***k in the city, took hold of this new bit of information in his eternal boredom and leaped with it. He went straight to the mayor and bargained with the woman for it, which was a rather simple task as she no longer wished to have anything to do with it. A few papers were signed, a check handed over, and Nirvani became known as Gaston's little playground. The man hired a whole slew to clean up the town and make it beautiful again, the goal in mind to increase the surplus of money in the bank by a cute, outdoor mall a boat trip from the city. Some may accuse him of going overboard with the zoo, but it was done with the most best intentions. Well, that was what Gaston had thought. After all, who was better to receive such a gift than himself? A few years and the island was.. acceptable for people, but Gaston was never one for patience. After the first three days of waiting for the contractors to finish, he had turned his attention onto other things, forgetting all about his little island in the sea.
One.. Two.. Three more years and that woman he had bought the island off of had returned to Nirvani. She took one look at the empty, yet cute, town, finding the zoo overrun with it's own beasts with few left to watch over them, and went straight to Gaston. Pictures, videos, and contracts were thrust under his nose. It wasn't until then that the man bothered to read what he had signed and instantly regretted it. He hadn't just purchased a cute little island to be forgotten about in the next moment.. He had purchased an actual town, one that required people and success unless he wished to lose the island and half of his money. That had been more than enough reason for him to dash away to the island to try to fix his own mistake and welcome with open arms the new peasan- er, people to Nirvani Island.
