Spring 7th, Year 2 Written in MandarinI just got around to using this diary. It took me a full year, but I've been busy. It was a very interesting year. My job at the clinic has been going well, even though I still haven't figured out how to use that awful computer. My coworkers were nice. Until, of course, they moved away. What a shame, I really liked them. It was fun. It's not so much fun anymore. My boss has been making me do things with him, like go to dances and playing board games with him. Even worse, I had to fill in as a nurse while we were searching for a new staff. Don't you have to go to nursing school first? It's a miracle no one died. I hope this new year will be a good one. I would like to make some more friends and see more things. It's been a very informative year.

Summer 19th, Year 2 Written in MandarinOh my... It's been a very long time since I last wrote in here. I've just been so busy! Actually, that's not true. I haven't done anything at all this year! It's nearly halfway over, and I can't say that I have accomplished anything productive.
I haven't been a complete hermit, though. I went to the beach festival, and the Valentine's Day festival. Both were... uneventful. On one hand, I am glad to have such a peaceful, calm life, but on the other hand, I am bored. It would be nice to have something interesting happen.
By the way, I am getting very good at avoiding Mao.

Fall 20th, Year 2 Written in MandarinMy twenty-second birthday passed by without me even noticing it. My mind has been in a completely different place, it does not surprise me that I would forget to mark my own birthday on the calendar, but it was still a strange realization.
Things have been looking up! We got a new nurse, who can stand up to Mao, and a new doctor, who seems to be capable. I keep on imagining what it would be like if things were like how they were before, with Doctor St. Jean and Lesley. It'll probably take some time until that happens, so I'll just spend my time in the cupboard behind the desk until then.
I hear there's a festival today. Perhaps I should go?

Spring 17th, Year 5 Written in MandarinHappy new year, Mister Diary! I didn't use you very much the past two years, so I apologize, but I was busy with Catrina! And even though she can't read what I'm writing, I still get nervous she'll see.
I met a new person at the start of the year! His name is Aleksey, and he's a very nice man from Russia~ He owns a fruit farm, and it's beautiful! He brought sunflowers to the clinic, and even though they're practically dead now, they're very pretty and I like having flowers on my desk. I went to visit Mister Aleksey shortly after that. His house is amazing! I don't know what I'd do with a house that big, but I'm a little jealous. We drank vodka, which is awful, and then we watched a movie about pirates! ...At one point he kissed me and I thought about Jun and felt horrible, but... maybe I just imagined it. Parts of that visit are fuzzy.
Also, Catrina and I entered the cooking competition. Catrina cooked. That was a mistake. She didn't cook anything! We came in last place, which is okay, but if we ever do it again... No, we'll never do it again. That was terrible. Still, at least I can say I did it.

Fall 10th, Year 5 Written in MandarinSummer is so refreshing here. It can get quite warm, but we're surrounded by water, so it's always comfortable. Not like Beijing. Summers there are always so muggy and humid. I can't take it. But here, I can enjoy the Summer season wholeheartedly.
Valentine's Day was in the middle of the month. I would have told you about it earlier, Mister Diary, but I was just so excited I couldn't properly write a single character! My handwriting really has gotten poor since I moved here. I speak Mandarin with Mao, but I write entirely in English, except for these entries. Anyway, my date was a woman named Mitsuke. She's very pretty and cool looking! She has blue eyes, I'm envious. She was really very kind, too, and gave me the flowers. We had a nice time, I taught her bits of Chinese! I hope I can play with her again soon.
I also ran into Mister Aleksey again. He had found a rabbit, but not a hypoallergenic kind. I suppose I have to wait for that a tad longer. He really is a very nice man, I feel bad for leaving him so abruptly when I visited his home.

Spring 3rd, Year 6 Written in MandarinI'm sorry for neglecting you for the whole winter, Mister Diary, but I really did my best to find you. I knew I shouldn't have brought you with me to work, but I thought that I'd be able to keep up with my entries if I kept you in the cupboard, but when I was cleaning, I must have swept you up with the other papers on the desk. It took me a few weeks of searching to look in the filing cabinet! Maybe I should start paying more attention to my work, I actually filed you with our medicine order receipts!
Uhm, anyway, even though I've been away for so long, I don't have very much to report. I don't do very well in winter. It gets cold in Beijing in the winter, yes, but there usually isn't very snow. But we have snowstorms here, and I never know what to do. I did go to the pumpkin festival, though, but I had forgotten that I had promised Mister Aleksey that we would dress up as pirates. Oh, I'm really a terrible person. He didn't seem mad, but I'll have to make it up to him somehow.
Anyway, Happy New Year, Mister Diary. I hope we both have a nice year, and I promise I'll keep you nice and safe at home.

Summer 15, Year 6 Written in MandarinI'm sorry for not bringing you home yet, Mister Diary, but somehow, I feel like I've been busy, even though I've barely been busy at all. Oh, this is all I'm going to write today, it seems. I think I hear Mao coming, and if I close the cupboard door, I can't write, because it will be dark.
