Being a 19 year old girl who grew up listening only to her dad's rock ballads and admittedly terrible music, I always considered them to be "oldies" because it was something dad listened to. Granted some of these songs are 50-60 years old now, and I still consider them "oldies". But I recently had a conversation with my cousin who is 12 and I was listening to Kryptonite by 3 doors down (I believe) which is a song from 2000. He said he didn't know the song cause he doesn't listen to "oldies". Needless to say I was SHOCKED. So this needs to be asked. How old can a song be before its considered old? Here's a list of my idea of old songs. Teen AngelEl Paso

Alabama is an older group, Tennessee River, Mountain Music, Roll On, and Song of the South are a few of their songs, along with whats her name Wynona? and her song No one Like You, I know a few other older country songs too.
A few older pop songs too, but I wouldnt consider those oldies since i was little when I heard them and my two sisters were teenagers then.

Once my dad told me Ted Nugent and AC DC were considered metal. I laughed, since they're nothing like the heavy metal we have around today.
A lot of people my age are into Ted Nugent, Led Zeppelin, AC DC, etc. Not so sure about the little kiddies though.

When I think of oldies, I think of swing/doo wop xp But I guess if I had to get into decades, probably 50's and earlier. Maybe early 60's if they have the sound I'm thinking of.

I think your idea of oldies and mine are about the same. But generally when I think of oldies, the first thing that comes to mind is Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Temptations, The Four Tops, ect. And maybe Elvis... But he's most Rock n' Roll than anything else.
