High-functioning Marshmallow

 Deep within the caverns of the mountain's mine, all the way down to the very last floor – well, safe floor. The other two hundred and thirteen floors of the mine were rather unstable, only the most daring of miners going where not even the original followers of Ilex would. Hence why the little fairy's shrine was only on the tenth floor of the mine rather than much, muuuuuch lower. Still, with a creature as energetic and spirited as Ilex, could someone really believe he would simply sit at his shrine the entire time rather than explore his underground playground? It was by luck and logic that the fairy was on the ceiling of the eighth floor, pressing himself against the rock there in search and creation of whatever little gem he felt like depositing that day. Emeralds? Why not? MAYBE DIAMONDS. Oh.. But he already stuck so many in floor one hundred and twenty-four! Good luck to anyone who wanted to find those.. Oh, well, if the miner would just talk to him he would be happy to make the gems easier to find! He would even stick signs up so he knew where to look! But noooo.. Oh, well –
“Hn?” Honey-brown eyes rolled up as the softest of tremors reached his cheek, squished against a stalactite he had made just earlier that morning so he had something physical to hold and pretend to be.. Who was this one? He backed up a pace and looked at the slightly curvy rock. Ah. Yeah. Lavender. He clapped his hand to straighten the rock back out with a short, but noticeable quake inside the mine, and then fluttered away to find the stairs. ..Until he remembered a fairy didn't need stairs. Riight. He shook his head and poofed his way up a floor to see – LUCIA. It was Lucia! SHE WAS HERE? Oh! Oh, this was perfect!! He held a pair of tiny hands over his mouth, masking his form from her cute little mortal eyes as he watched her. He never had anyone visit him before!!! He didn't know what to say – or do – or think. But.. wait.. why was she on the seventh floor? His shrine was farther than this!
..Oh.. she was lost! He could fix that! The conclusion came to him after watching her for a moment more, listening to her sweet, beautiful voice~ He just needed to help her find her way! Now, normally, he wasn't allowed to do much.. But that was a time when fairies got daily visits! He hadn't had one in years – he could bend the rules just a tad! Right? Right! So, as quiet as he could manage, he dropped to the ground and brushed his fingers across the ground a foot from Lucia's position. Keeping his hands to the ground, the invisible fairy flew backward awkwardly, down floor after floor until he finally got to the tenth, where his pretty little shrine stood.. dusty. But, it was a mine, he couldn't expect it to always be polished! It was a tiresome task, the trail making, but, once he was done, a trail of silver and gold dust sparkled ever so slightly in a tiny road back to his shrine. Now she couldn't get lost! All Ilex had to do was wait patiently for his darling to come to him~

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would've probably turned back right now. Or actually not even venture by themselves if they had no idea what lied in a mine. But Lucia was not exactly well known for her common sense. Runaway teenagers rarely had any. Go figure. Which was why when she finally stood up and glanced around, she was quite surprised to see something different on the ground. At first Lucia thought she was seeing things, but when she got closer and bent down to check it out, she was sure it was a sign! Or not... but really she had nothing to lose. So in all her orange suit and red boots, the girl wandered the last floors, following the little sparkles like a child, until she reached the last floor. "Oh damn it!" And like every child, she would be met with a rock tripping her, yet again, and landing on the ground. Let it be known that this is the girl considering to play with fire for a living. At this fall she was right in front of the shrine. From her spot in the ground the girl looked up at the shrine with curious eyes. "What is this?" she asked in awe. It was dusty, but... it was so cool. "Hello? Mr. Fairy? Anyone?" asked Lucia around, sitting up from her position and glancing around, hoping for an answer.

Ilex, who had gone to hide within the shrine as any good fairy should, was practically biting his fingernails in anticipation! He could feel it coming – finally, after so many decades, a beautiful, pretty, and completely his follower woman was at his shrine. Well, not yet, but she would be soon! He could feel it! He had his head fixed onto the floor's vibrations as she took each step and, even if every little wave of tremors had his head rattling – especially as she came clamoring down the stairs! – he couldn't bring himself to not listen in to it. He just had to make sure that she was going to come! He had laid the path out for her easy enough that even a two year old would be able to do it – or at least Daffodil would be able to manage it, which should mean enough. He licked his lips as he felt a particularly close step and held back a squeal of delight as he swore he could start counting down the steps to his shrine – just six more! Five, four, three – !
“Ow!” A small hand clapped over his mouth as tears pricked his eyes, his head still throbbing from that last boom as she tripped to his shrine. He shook his head free of such throbs and took in a deep breath – she was there! It wasn't time to whine! He turned and, slipping his fingers over the top of his shrine, he prepared himself for his grand entrance – one that would guarantee her stay! Or, well, he had one planned until he poked his eyes over towards her and saw her face to face – LUCIA. “LUCIIIAAA~~!” He called out shrilly as he darted up with a gust of orange, shimmery dust and straight into her chest, rubbing his face as innocently as he could manage against her~ (Oh, so sofft~~) “You're just as smooth as I remember! Imagine! Remember my imagination!” Oh, how smooth he caught himself there! He wasn't a fairy for nothing! “I'm so happy you came to see me – it's been so lonely down here and.. Ah, Lucia!!”

Had Lucia honestly expected to see a fairy down here? Of course she did! Why else would the note tell her to come visit if he wasn't here? That would just be rude! Or something... It would probably be naive of her to think like that, but this time it paid off! There was a fairy! The lass smiled widely at the real sight of him. My he was small... but so cute! Now innocent or not... something in her chest did make her ticklish, which was why she was giggling more than she should've with Ilex going on about something. It wouldn't be for a moment or two before she calmed down and glanced at the fairy. "But you're so cute! Why doesn't anyone come visit you... What's your name Mr. Fairy?" Well she didn't know! But it had to be cute~ Tho this place didn't seem cute... at all. Which was why she glanced around for a moment and frowned... "Do you like being here? It's so cold... and musty..." She didn't, plain and simple. But then again that was how she was, plain and simple. That probably explained why she decided to do something spontaneous to break out of that rut... like visiting a fairy down a mine.
