Adolf Hitler get so much credit as the ultimate heinously evil leader but what about Chairman Mao Tae-Tung (alt. Eng spelling : Zedong)?

The death toll of Hitler's reign is estimated at 10-20 million
(of which includes >6 million Jews and >3 million Pollish). While this is a deplorable atrocity, Mao Tse-Tung death toll is approximated at 70 million.

In an interview with Jung Chang, biographer of Mao Tse-Tung, Chang states: "The real Mao was completely amoral. He rejected morality as an adult decision when he was 24-years-old and he said the world exists only for me. And from then on he pursued what he wanted with basically increasing power, first to become supreme party leader and then the supreme leader of China, and then to dominate the world. He single-mindedly pursued these goals throughout his life.

"After he took power he said many times things like, 'we must conquer the Earth', 'we must set up an Earth control committee and make a uniform plan for the Earth', or , 'the Pacific Ocean isn't going to be peaceful unless we take it over'. So he was pursuing his own power until he died. ...

"He didn't achieve his superpower dream, because Mao basically was economically hopeless, and he actually left China in a shambles. ...

"Mao died full of self-pity that he didn't make it. ... But he never spared a thought for the 70 million deaths that his pursuit had cost the Chinese people."

Hitler and Mao both claimed to be working for the good of the people. Both executed masterful propoganda and cultural programming campaigns. Hitler was a painter. Mao was a poet.

While Mao may not have the twisted experiments under his belt that Hitler does or have the fancy war and torture devices, that may be because he was a little busy killing off all the scientists and intellectuals.

Hitler was a vegetarian and a germaphobic virgin. Mao loved fatty pork and was a consumate womanizer

Yeah, Hitler was and evil b*****d, but wasn't Mao Tse-Tung a bigger one? Why does Hitler get all the credit and infamy?

Is it just because he's White?

I was given a Eurocentric view of world histroy. The whole Mao thing, and even other atrocites were not mentioned.

Hard to say they were both pretty evil and crazy, lets not forget that. I blame the people who let them come into power but that's a whole different topic.

I think Hitler because if he had won, he was going to change history so that no one knew an entire race of people ever exisited.

To a large degree Mao Tse-Tung did change history with the Cutural Revolution and the attempted great purging of intellectuals, artits, revolutionaries and all histories that Mao determined unsupportive or contradictory to his reign.

Like emporers before him, he used mass extermination as a way to secure his political power and "prevent civil unrest"

If there were many Jews in China at the time I'm fairly sure that he would have killed them off too since the segmentation of the population by creed and their foreign ways would be consider a de-unifying threat to China.

China is just pretty big and he had a lot of different groups and subcultures of Chinese people to exterminate

But yes, both thoughly evil wack-jobs.

The things that lead to power.....well in the case of Germany that was lagely the poverty left by WW1 and in China there was the combined problems of flood, famine, drought, plague and Japanese incusions that leasd to the destabilization of Imperial China (and let's face it, that Emporer didn't exactly have his sh*t together). Desperate people wanted food and security and someone came along and promised them.

I fear the mob-mentality that would ever let people just stand by and allow those things to happen as a scapegoat for the ills of the world.

I also though that my high school was a joke until I moved to Indiana. I took a WW2 class for the history requirement and was shock to learn that a lot of people out here never really learned about it in their high schools.
