There is no excuse, in the age of the Internet, to simply swallow public mythology and distortions of history without researching facts. And investigating the motives of those who want you to believe that anyone who uses any kind of a single eye symbol is satanic.
There are and always have been secret societies of people looking for deeper meanings in life, and creating rituals to foster that search are often part of it. Such societies are secret because they are persecuted, tortured, and murdered for going beyond what the prevailing religious power wants people to explore. This has mostly been defined by the Roman Catholic Church, allied with monarchies and empires in a quest for power and control.
By all means, seek out God (though my experience is, you don’t have to look very far because God is everywhere, in everything and everyone). But don’t let reactionary and repressive political and religious groups tell you lies to keep you bound to their ideologies and doctrines.
Of course some people mention “Illuminati” in songs because it’s become a part of westernized mythology, especially in the American music business. The Nazis had a saying, that if you tell a lie over and over and over again, sooner or later, the people will believe it.
People have heard the word, they think they know what it means because they’ve been told over and over again that it means a certain thing, so they write about it as if it’s true if they’ve come to believe it is. Doesn’t make it true and it doesn’t mean that they are “puppets” of the illuminati or any other so-called occult group.
It’s especially important to know how today’s propagandists work to attack our artistic and cultural heroes, as well as our progressive political movements. Propagandists can often come up with a series of unrelated facts, each of which is true, and then tell you they are all related.
The Michael Jackson one is a perfect example. He was going to sing “They don’t care about us.” Then he died. Both these facts are true, but there’s no factual connection between the two. A does not equal B. People like Glen Beck and Alex Jones are especially good at stringing unrelated true facts together and because you trust that each fact is true, you also trust the conclusion, which is false.
Oldest trick in the book.
Don’t worry, Little Monsters. Mother Monster is not an Illuminati puppet, a Satanist, an occultist or anything else. She’s just an extremely visionary artist who wants to share what she has learned in life with her fans, because she is one of her, and we are like her in a very visceral emotional way. More importantly, she’s a very very spiritual woman. And we all know it. That’s why sites like vigilantcitizen are so eager to destroy her reputation.
When someone attacks an artist who stirs your heart and soul, always research exactly who is behind that attack, what their motive is, and who stands to gain if we believe the attack. Use the internet to search out, not just confirming views, but opposing views. Take nothing for granted
Use the search engine of your choice, I use google, and search for “Illuminati Myth” or “Illuminati Conspiracy Theories” and you’ll discover the truth, the facts, and the history behind who promotes the myth of the Illuminati and why.
Vigilantcitizen is one of the most reactionary, right-wing, paranoid conspiracy theory promoting sites on the web. It is linked with other reactionary right wing organizations and individuals, including most notably, the John Birch Society which resurrected this whole lie about the Illuminati the last time…in the 60s…linking rock and roll to the communist takeover of the US all backed and plotted by the Illuminati. And Jews. And Queers are part of the plot.
The Illuminati, as promoted in right wing circles, does not exist. What once existed was a philosophical society formed by a group of “Men of the Enlightenment”, meaning they were the product of that wonderful era of progress in Europe called The Enlightenment. They included people like Voltaire, various philosophers, and scientists. What they promoted was progress and free thinking.
Well, no monarchist or statist movement could tolerate free thinking. It was a culture war, much like the ones that are being fought in America today.
And of course, it was free thinking that led the French to the silly notion that they deserved equality and freedom. Thus the French Revolution happened, and the monarchist and statist movements blamed the Illuminati which by now had been blown up from a private society of a few men, to some massive shadowy organization with links to the occult. And Jews, of course, who were behind it all.
When the American Revolution happened, the monarchists and Tories once again claimed that the Illuminati was behind it.
The actual Illuminati “Men of the Enlightenment” died out in a generation. But it has made such a wonderful boogeyman for political, religious, and economic groups that it gets resurrected every time there is a leap in cultural and social thinking, usually led by the arts.
In the sixties, it was rock and roll. It was the Illuminati doing not just satanic mind control, but COMMUNIST satanic mind control. This was the John Birch Society’s bogeyman to blame the freedom of the 60s on.
Once again, this country is being pushed and pulled between those who are terrified of freedom, free thinking, people expressing themselves honestly and those who know only one way forward for any society, and that is forward, into the future, releasing fears and old bigotries.
Vigilantcitizen is one of those groups who are fighting a war against US, every person who is different whether it’s because you’re gay or you’re left handed or something else that sets you apart. To suppress us, and where our freedoms can lead us, and the country, they go after those who inspire us: the artists who make our hearts sing, who make our eyes glow with the sights, who motivate us to move forward and up.
Who believes Lady Gaga is an Illuminati? Glen Beck, and the tens of thousands of fearful angry (mostly white) people who gathered in Washington DC to proclaim they are going to take back “their country”…from who? From us, and people like us. Those are the kinds of people who follow the paranoid conspiracies of vigilantcitizen and other sites to look for their enemies, the people they need to take the country back from. That’s us.
There is no secretive all powerful occultist political secret society out there known as the Illuminati, or the New World Order, or any other of those paranoid made-up threats. Fear mongering is the oldest way to wield power and keep people enslaved in their bigotry or their ignorance or their self-hatred. All the things that Lady Gaga is fighting to help us free ourselves from.
These are lies told by bigoted frightened people who don’t want us to be free, to think for ourselves, to make our own way in the world, to make our art, to make a new world that’s better and different from theirs.
If anyone is trying to brainwash anyone, it’s them, not Gaga and not any other musical or visual or literary artist. Don’t sell out your freedom for a cheap lie.
