So we stopped into Harbor Freight, a pretty good hardware store in my area. My dad needed a tire guage he could use on his big rig but found no such thing. However, I had a VERY nice find of my own.

The sextant is sadly only a decorative piece and contains lead, regardless I had to have it. As for the compass/sundial It has three brass screws for mounting, so I may put it on a leather wrist band or something, using grommets and nuts or something.

There was another navigational tool that looked like a mini mounted telescope, but I was already spending enough.

Still, if there's a Harbor Freight near you, I urge you to take a look.

I still need to check the hobby store near my house for gears.

The compass does need to be mounted, but I don't know about a leather strap.

I'm rethinking that too. It fits much more nicely on the back of the hand, so affixing it to a glove sounds better.
