How do you trade with someone over the internet without wi-fi?

 Is it possible to trade long distance using the union room?
If it is, then what's the use of the wi-fi club?
I think to use the union room to trade you have to be with the person with whom you are trading.

It is impossible to trade in the union room unless if you and the one you are trading with are both in the same location. Meaning, same house, or school, building, etc.
