nikkitynikk I think they should explain why it's so important that they have to be RIGHT THERE!!! Where else are they going to put it? There are protests against mosques in Staten Island, Tennessee, and California. Apparently NOWHERE in the United States is an okay place to make one. And that's not okay. That's religious discrimination, which goes against the first amendment of the constitution. As for why it is where it is in the NYC, which is two or three blocks away from ground zero? Because it's a vacant lot that's the right size for a community center. Space is very limited in the city.

nikkitynikk I think they should explain why it's so important that they have to be RIGHT THERE!!! First of all, it's not even a mosque, second of all, it's 3 blocks away. That's pretty far. And just because one group of radical muslims flew a plane into a building doesn't make every single muslim a terrorist. That's like saying that since some radical christians kill doctors who perform abortions, then no churches should ever be built near a doctor's office.

I'm not against it and neither is the law, but for all the controversy and misplaced feelings, it seems a bit counter-productive, as far as I'm concerned.

I think the majority of the controversy is just the media blowing things completely out of proportion. All it's really doing is showing how unstable America's religious "freedoms" are.

Personally....when you research it a bit more, there is a large Muslim community down there, and several of their shops closer to Ground Zero than this Muslim community centre (and it is a community centre/Mosque, not just a Mosque :/). So for them to try and stop it, you'd have to question why haven't they done it to the other shops before they were put in too. :/

Yes, they should be allowed to build the mosque, but they should have known from the start that they would catch all this flak for it. There's no way in hell they could not have expected this, if they had any foresight at all.
Naysayers don't care if it's going to be a community center that promotes teaching proper morals to the Muslim youth. All they hear is "mosque."

I was shocked when I found out that it was getting so much heat. To me, it didn't seem like something to make a fuss about. I had known that Muslim Americans were getting discriminated against, especially in more southern states, but I never thought it would be this explicit, especially considering that it's been nine years since the attacks.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they bought the land before the 9/11 attacks, so they couldnt've known at the time.
I'll have to go search for where I read that to back it up though. Scrap that, my source was wrong.
Either way, there's a possibility that they, like a lot of people who are okay with it, thought that 2 blocks was far enough away.

Because people are touchy about the idea of a mosque anywhere near Ground Zero. If not because of the "all Muslims are terrorists" stereotype, naysayers think it's insensitive. Silly RiRi Either way, there's a possibility that they, like a lot of people who are okay with it, thought that 2 blocks was far enough away. I heard it was three blocks away... *cough* XD
