Character Name: Kal-El, Clark Kent
Codename: Superman (Alias the man of steel/man of tomorrow)
Alignment: Good, really good.
Powers: Superman's Kryptonian genetics grant him the ability to metabolize (yellow) solar energy in a unique way; his cells are able to translate this energy into an electromagnetic field that grants him invulnerability to almost all conventional forms of attack, and in addition allows him to fly, and dramatically increases his already prodigious strength, the rest of which is derived from the dense molecular structure of Kryptonians, (a result of the Kryptonian planetary gravitational field, which is considerably more potent than that of earth) He has in the past used his strength to shatter moon-sized planetary objects with little or no effort, and occasionally to shift the orbit of earth sized bodies. In addition to these powers, super man can also fire concentrated beams of heat from his eyes, perceive much farther into the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums than humans (he can detect X-rays and use them to see through anything but lead or elements of similar or greater density). He has hearing so powerful it can detect sounds across the globe (and in some instances, across the near-vacuum of space.) And he can condense vast quantities of air in his lungs, (a power which he can use to survive interstellar journeys, or to expel concentrated gusts of "arctic breath" that can create hurricane-force winds, extinguish fires, or freeze opponents solid.
Superman has demonstrated vulnerability to Kryptonite, a radioactive compound derived from the shattered remnants of Krypton, exposure to Kryptonite radiation causes superman intense, debilitating pain and eventual death. Being deprived of a yellow sun has been shown to slowly rob Superman of his power and reduce him to near-human levels, and exposure to a red sun has been shown to dramatically speed up this process. Superman is also vulnerable to the effects of magic and psychic manipulation. (though he has a very strong will and has been known to throw off psychics upon occasion)
Bio: Born under the name Kal-El on the planet Krypton to the scientist Jor-El, who realized the planet was doomed to explode, yet failed to convince the governing body of Krypton to mount an evacuation. The infant Kal-El was therefore loaded onto a rocket bound for earth, where he was raised under the name Clark Kent, By Steve and Martha Kent, in the town of Smallville, Kansas. After reaching maturity, the Kents gave him a crystal they had recovered from his crashed space ship, containing in it the blueprints for Superman's fortress of solitude, and the entire database of Kryptonian knowledge, all of which was downloaded into Clark's brain. Moving to the city of Metropolis (where he met Lois Lane, his wife) and donning a red blue and yellow costume with the Kryptonian symbol for Truth and Justice (and the insignia of the house of El) emblazoned on the front of his chest, superman undertook a quest to fight for Freedom, Truth, and Justice that persists to this very day.
Extra: Superman is often reffered to by other heroes as a "Boy scout" for his optimistic outlook on human character, his strong rural values, and his commitment to social activism. Superman has a great appreciation for what Superboy once described as "All that Norman Rockwell stuff", he loves Ma Kent's homemade cookies and apple pie, and always strives to apply his powers judiciously and for the greater good of mankind.
