Keanu yawned big as he started to wake up. Having stayed with kami the whole time, he had allowed himself to be lulled to sleep in her protective arms, curled up next to Mazin. He looked up to find her asleep as well, and many of the other people who had been in the Centre earlier gone. "Mama...mama, wake up!" he said softly, shaking the girl softly.

Kami's eyelids fluttered open, and she yawned, looking about in a daze. Trying to keep Keanu comfortaed, she must have fallen asleep herself. "Huh...everyone's gone. I guess it's safe to leave..." she stood up, and set Keanu on his feet, stretching first before moving to exit the Centre, keanu trailing behind.

Nehanda scampered up the path to the Centre. She clutched the note and list Foenix had given her in one hand, and she brushed aimmlessly at various plants as she passed them with the other.

Once there, she pushed open the door and slipped inside. It looked and sounded as though the place was empty. Now where was she supposed to leave this? Foenix hadn't been too specific . . .

The little girl craned her neck and looked around. Back by the door, there was a big notepad posted on the wall. And there was a note that, upon inspection, invited people to list things they needed from the mainland. Well, that was easy!

Nehanda looked down at her list. It was kinda long, and her handwriting wasn't very good yet. Maybe she could find something to pin the list and note up with? She started searching through the various boxes and drawers around the Common Room and kitchen. It took her a while, but she finally found some push pins and a pencil.

It was pretty easy to stick the list and note up after that. She stood back and looked over the list. It mentioned things like glass window panes and nails, and cooking stuff. Foenix had also asked for several sets of garden pots.

Nehanda bit her lip, and then lifted the pencil she had found. In her wobbly writing, she added something to the bottom.

Foenixfyre's Note

Aly-
I'm sure there will be a few big orders going out to the mainland for people fixing any damage to their houses. Let me know how much I owe you. I need:
-window panes (five single, two double)
-wall paint in light blue, deep green, and purple (I've painted swatches to the back of this list)
-nails

Nehanda's Addition

Aly-
Have you sene Acia? I hope she's okay, cause she wasn't round after the eardqwake. But if you see her, culd you ask her to come to my house? And culd she fix the dirt for my plants, like she did before? I'd like that lots. Thanks!!!!

Foenix walked into the Centre and straight toward the post board. It only took a second to put up Emi's list.

Attached list
Hello everyone,
My Aerandir (Blanche) has recently received the go-ahead that she's about to grow.
For her to grow, I've been given a rather long list of items I've got to collect, but I'm afraid I don't have half of these lying around the house.
So, if you do have anything spare on this list, I would be greatly obliged if you could help out.

1 long piece of fabric
3 long ribbons
Some gemstones
A small piece of metal
1 thin leather strip
Some beads

If you do have anything you'd be willing to pass over, could you please mail it to Number one, Setone.
Thank you!
Emiko.

Ever since Pueblo gotten older, she had much more free time to herself she didn't know what to do! A little trip to the Centre to see what was new wouldn't hurt. Besides, Pueblo was taking care of Zen, and they really needed more bonding time alone.

Fae looked around the appearingly-empty center, half frowning to herself. "Hm." She ambled over to the coark board- there was bound to be new flyers up. Adjusting her glasses, she scanned through lists of quests. Raising her eyebrows, she had an idea. Quickly going through her satchel, she groped for a pen and scrap of paper, then copied a few things down. Smiling to herself, she now had something to keep herself busy with and headed home immediately.

Hoofed feet pounded against the ground as Nehanda ran to the Centre, trying to avoid the fat, heavy raindrops that had just begun to fall. She carried one of the large seed pods, brought back from the Isle, held firmly against her side. She just barely made it; as soon as she reached the small overhang extending over the Centre's entrance, the heavens opened up and began to pour. Nehanda looked up at the dark skies and smiled, then turned back toward the building. Rain like this was unusual at this time of year, but her gardens would be glad for it.

It was the first time she had been inside the Centre since the earthquake, and Nehanda looked around as she pushed the door open and stepped quietly inside. Everything looked the same, just . . . smaller. The swan maiden had to laugh; she was still getting used to her new size. Overhead, she could hear the rain pounding against the roof. It was a soothing sound. Shaking her head, then her wings, she tried to rid herself of the water that had already fallen on her.

"Acia?" Softly, she called out to the older Aerandir as she walked down the hallway to Aly and Acia's suite. "Acia, are you there? Aly?" Pausing in front of the door, she raised one fist and knocked.

Acia opened the door almost the instant Nehanda had knocked. She had been on her way out, going across to Cetalu with another new item wrapped in a bundle for ye another Aerandir growth. There were so many of them currently! Working up the lists, too, had been somewhat frustrating. She was loosing her feeling for the lists... it was as though some of the ability for it had been slipping away ever since she had begun the second dream.

"Nehanda!" she exclaimed, stepping back a few paces so as not to bump into the, now taller, youth. She smiled warmly, moving back a few steps as if to invite the other in "How can I help you, Nehanda? Something for your garden?" she looked down at the seed pod, wondering at the feeling of 'life' that seemed to be emanating from it.

A bit startled by Acia's swift response, Nehanda stepped back, eyes wide. However, she quickly regained herself with the older Aerandir's warm greeting. As she moved into the room, she looked around. This was the first time since her Child transformation that she had been here.

"Not exactly," she replied to Acia's question. Holding up the seed pod, she offered it to the other woman to look at. "When I grew, my Dream showed these growing up in the higher branches of the Tree. Gryphons came flying out of them. Pueblo helped me to collect a few before we left the Island, and I've been studying them. You must be able to feel it for yourself, but to me, they all but glow with some sort of life force. And the pedicel -the stem- detaches to provide an opening. The first time I opened this one, it felt . . ." She searched for the words to describe what she had experienced. "I've never felt an energy that was so warm, and comforting. It was this breath of life, of all the thrill of growth and birth and creation that I feel when I'm working with my plants."

Nehanda looked down at the fingers she held clasped together. "Acia, I could be completely off base with this . . . but where do you get the fluff and feathers?"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 25, 2006 12:33 pm

Acia listened as the younger Aerandir spoke, eyeing the seed pod as the other young female held it up. "I can feel it too" she said, reaching out but not quite touching it "a warmth, at least." Acia smiled as Nehanda described her close feeling to the plant, the feeling was similar to that Acia got when working with rock except that it was dull and low and slow instead of vibrant. That sort of closeness with your abilities was part and parcel of being an Aerandir.

"The fluff and feathers?" she was brought out of her reverie. She wondered about what might happen if they were put in the seedpods of the large tree. The tree of the godesses. Feeling ever-so-slightly guilty she looked around to confirm that they were alone. "Most of the items are found at the digsites. I get a great deal of them to process as my abilities allow me to remove the dirt and soil from them a lot more quickly than humans could. I have a few items currently which I've just cleared up... I could get them for you.."

She paused. For some reason it didn't seem right. She was conflicted. On one hand the archeo team had always been good to her, they had begun the Aerandir project and were upkeeping them by financing the new guardians. On the other hand the artifacts were Aerandir and thus really was 'theirs' to choose what to do with. She walked to the ladder and nipped up the ladder, folding her wings in tightly. "Just a moment!" her voice trailed down from the attic room.

The dig sites. Of course! Nehanda had certainly heard mention of them before, but had never thought much about them. And it would make a lot of sense for Acia, of all people, to associate with them closely. Her powers could be incredibly useful.

She didn't try to follow Acia into the attic -she was too polite for that- but instead wandered in a small circle around the room, studying the space where Aly and Acia lived. Look! There were the floor cushions Foenix had made for Aly's birthday!

Feeling just a tiny bit awkward, she called up into the attic. "I don't know much about what they're finding at the dig sites, but have they found anything like the jars we use for the fluff and feathers now? Because maybe they couldn't make jars and I started thinking that the jars were just something the humans had provided. So they'd need something else, something that was produced naturally, to use as a container."

Nehanda felt slightly ridiculous as she tried to put all of these vague thoughts of hers into an explanation for her suspisions. She wasn't any sort of historian; she didn't know how the Aerandir had originally lived. But wasn't hers a reasonable possibility?

Acia returned down the ladder with a small package under her chin. She nimbly jumped the last few steps, her hair slightly floofed from her mad dash to find the items she had been searching for.

"Not that they've told me..." she said, pausing to think Nehanda's idea over. "You could be right... afterall the goddess must have shown you them for a reason? Perhaps that reason is to allow us to propogate ourselves away from humans..." Acia felt a stab of guilt again. Some of them had been kind to her but she still couldn't shake her dislike of their kind in general. Her first dream had shown her what they had done, so long ago...

Acia forced a smile as she held the package out to Nehanda. "Two feathers, two pices of fur... I'm not sure of the type, I haven't had time to look closely at them as I'd just finished cleaning them up."

Nehanda received the package, holding its precious contents carefully. "The guardians here are good people. I know they love us very much, but . . . I think you're right. It might be nice to control that aspect of ourselves." She looked down and studied her new burden. "I have to admit that it's not really something I've thought about much."

She looked back up at Acia, and wondered what exactly had given this beautiful Aerandir her unease around humans. Perhaps she'd find out one day.

"If this works the way I think it should . . . I think I'd like to keep one set with me. It's be nice to have a little sibling, and I think Foenix is starting to miss having a little one about. I read about this thing called 'empty nest syndrome.'" She shrugged at yet another odd aspect of the person she lived with. "But is there anyone you'd like the other set to go to?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 26, 2006 3:07 pm

"If it works and does go as you say....." Acia thought for a moment. "I'm really not sure. I had a list of the guardians willing to look after a second child." Acia located that list under a pile of books amongst Alyosha's things. She wrote out a slip of paper with a name and an address. Her unease strengthened a little. "I'm not sure how we're going to explain it to the humans. I guess I'll have a few words with Alyosha." she tailed off, her resolve strengthening. "I'll tell him what you're trying and what we plan to do if it works." her smile became slightly fiece, for once her leonine side showing through.

"Good luck, Nehanda. I think we may both need it.."

The swan maiden smiled, and turned to walk toward the door. She tucked the seed pod, package containing the fluff and feathers, and the name and address into her carrysak. "I can't imagine that they'd be angry. I guess . . . but isn't this what people, Aerandir, whatever, do as they grow up? We can't stay little children for ever, just because the humans want to take care of us. That's what adults do; they go off and make their own lives. It doesn't mean we can't still love our guardians . . ." she trailed off, conscious of the fact that she wasn't verbalizing very well. This concept was such a new one to her.

She smiled self-consciously and shrugged. "Well, anyway, I'll let you know how things go. Thanks for helping me with this." with that as a farewell, she turned and walked toward the door. She was very eager to start her little experiment.
