Last time Julie had been to the mall, she'd seen something that'd caught her attention almost instantly. It hadn't been a new dress or some accessories - though those often caught the girl's eye - no it'd been something much more simple. A very sparkly and pink sign had talked about an event where girls could become pen pals and meet and make new friends with people they'd never met! It had seemed so coooooool! Julie, of course, had signed up immediately. What could be more fun than meeting someone new and getting to learn about them? So, when the name and address came for her pen pal, the girl was eager to start up right away! She'd even gotten a new stationary set - in a light springy green - to use with her purple writing pen! What could be better? Julie's first letter "Dear Pen Pal, Hi there! It's really really nice to meet you! My name is Julie. I live in Aekea right now and I'm...well I'm about 10, really. How old are you? Where do you live - well I kind of know, that's in your address, but what sort of house do you live in?
Do you have any brothers or sisters? I do! I have 2 big brothers and 2 little sisters! My biggest brother's a Moose! His name is Phineas. Then there's Cornelius - he's an owl-bear. My younger sisters are Pogo and Patton - Pogo is fuzzy and Patton looks normal. What's your family like?
Okay, I'll write more later! Bye! Write me back soon! Your new friend, Julie M.

Luvvie squealed with excitement when her mama brought in the mail and handed her a pretty envelope with her name on it - her name! Mail for "Luvenia Jenkins". She opened the envelope and began to (slowly) read the letter she had gotten from her new penpal. She wasn't very good at reading or writing yet, but she was certainly trying her best. What a good idea it had been to sign up for the pen-pal thingie at the mall! After reading the letter multiple times, Luvvie called for Tish, and with her Mama's help composed her first reply on bright pink stationary that was dotted with flowers. Luvvie's First Letter
Dear Julie,
It's nice to meet you too! My name is Luvvie and I live in Barton with my Mama and brother and sisters. I am - well I don't know how old I am, but Mama says I'll be growing soon.
I live in a big house but I share a room with my little sister Miriam. We have a playroom and a big yard with a garden; do you have a garden or a yard to play in? I have one big sister, two little sisters and a little brother!
My big sister is an angel - really, she fell from heaven and everything, and has wings on her back. My little sister Miriam wears a mask all the time, and my little sister Faiya is blue with swirls, and makes good smells around her. She came from a pretty bottle Mama found. I didn't know toddlers could come from bottles! My little brother Axel has red hair and sets things on fire - like my dresses. I don't know why he hates playing dress-up but he does.
Write back soon. Mama helped me write this, she's a good Mama.
Love, Luvvie

Julie was more than happy to get the bright pink letter from her pen pal. YAY! Immediately the girl tore into it and started avidly reading, excited to find out all about her new friend. Hey wait, she knew that name in the middle! Julie Dear Luvenia,
I share a room with my one sister too - Pogo and I like to paint and decorate our room and have tea parties. We've got a kind of small garden right now but that's mostly because part of it is for Patton and the boys to do their big experiments in. They blow stuff up.
Hey, your sister's named Miriam and wears a mask? I know a girl like that! I met her in a field and I broke her mask by accident. We had to glue it back together.
Wow, a real angel? Mommy says I'm one of those Angellic Imp things that showed up for the olympics. Pogo and Patton come from stuff too - Pogo came from a funny mannequin we got, and Patton came from a watch. Babies don't normally come from that stuff but Mommy says on Gaia they do - I came from a cave and Corne came from a tree and Phineas came from a moose.
Patton sets stuff on fire too but she doesn't set our clothes. She's nice. She doesn't like to play dress-up though. You should come play with me and Pogo, some time! We love to dress in fun outfits and have tea parties. Mommy helped us make a tea set even!
Your Mama writes really really nice! Talk to you again soon!
Love, Julie

When the next letter arrived, Luvvie was waiting for it. With eager hands she tore it open, and squealed in delight as she recognized that this was a person that knew her little sister. Running over to Miri, she recounted the story in the letter, and ten minutes later sat down with her Mama to compose another reply. Luvvie
Dear Julie,
You can call me Luvvie. Mama only calls me Luvenia when I'm in trouble. The girl you met in the field is my sister! She remembers you and your moose brother and told me to say hi - so hi! Oh, and no more mask-breaking too okay?
Gaia's weird about babies, I think. Mama said me, Miri and Axel all came from a cave too! Maybe we all came from the same cave - would that make us cousins? I hope so, you'd be a nice cousin to have if so!
Axel's pretty nice when I don't try to get him to play dress-up with me. I think he just doesn't like looking pretty. Maybe he needs more boys to play with. I should ask Mama for more brothers, but last time I tried to ask for another brother or sister she said no way until me and Faiya and Xelly are all bigger.
I want to be able to play tea party with you sometime. Maybe we can play someday?
Love, Luvvie.

Julie giggled at the response, showing Phineas the letter out of amusement. He smiled, adding in a hello for the other little girls before the imp went off to compose her reply. After all, what could be more important? Julie Dear Luvvie,
Ooooh. Our mom doesn't usually do stuff like that - she says we have short names so she doesn't have to think of nicknames. She just uses our last name if we're too bad. Or when she's being important. Phineas says hi back to Miri and hi to you! And no, no more mask breaking - it was an accident! I couldn't see her and I was scared cause all I heard was singing and I couldn't see any people around.
Maybe! Do you know who the people in the cave were? The people I came from were Darcy and Aaron - they're nice to me. Aaron's good at cards and they've both got orange hair and dark skin. Awwwww, your Mom said no? My mom said maybe, if she gets a bigger house. She got a letter about a baby so who knows! I'm gonna go with her to find out.
Definitely! You don't live too far away, maybe you can come visit? I'm sure Axel'd like my brothers - or Patton, she acts kinda like a boy - and you and your sisters can play dressup with me and Pogo! Let's ask our mommies about it, sometime!
Love, Julie

The next letter arrived, and Luvvie was full of excitement. This time she had tried to write some of it herself, and so the handwriting wasn't nearly as pretty, and there were ink-blotches everywhere. But thanks to her Mommy sitting next to her and helping her spell, she hadn't gotten a single word wrong! Luvvie Dear Julie,
I'm writing this all on my own! Well Mommy is helping with spelling and pucktu punc tu a tion but it's really me writing it this time! Miri was singing when you broke her mask? I understand now - Miri thinks she's just a bad singer but her singing's really really scary. It even scares Mommy sometimes! It's kinda sad 'cause Miri really likes to sing, and it makes her upset when we tell her not to.
A cave? Darcy and Aaron? Those are who brought me to Mommy! And Miri, and Axel too! Jaella's the nicest though; she likes to play dress-up too! And maybe if I grow soon I might get another brother or sister, Mama said no but she says that a lot and takes in new brothers and sisters anyway - like Axel, she wasn't wanting any more but she took him and loves him. And then there's Valdin the bunny-shadow thing. He just kinda popped up one day and follows Axel around; Mommy treats him like he's another brother sometimes, though I wish he didn't keep eating all the Cheesy Poofs.
I'd love to come visit you sometime! And I think Miri wants to see Phineas again, and Azel wouldn't mind a girl that acts like a boy, I don't think. And he'd definitely get along with your brothers! Mommy says if we wanna meet to have your mommy call her - I'm gonna write the phone number down now, so I hope I don't mess up! It's.... 496-555-1297 . There! I did it right! Maybe now we can visit each other and really play!
Love,
Luvvie

The purple haired girl's next response took a bit more time since she'd been getting ready to move at the time. Still, it was nice to finally get to sit down and reply to Luvvie. Taking out her pen, the girl wrote a nice long reply. Julie Dear Luvvie,
Wow! Good job! Your Mommy should be really proud of you! Yes she was, but it was more the fact that I couldn't see her that scared me the most. I was just walking into a meadow area and suddenly I heard this voice! And it was scarrrrry!
Yay! That's cool! Mommy ended up getting asked to take in another kid with my friend Imani's Mom! But they're paying for us to get a new house so I'm gonna end up moving! We've been getting ready for it lately. It'll be so neat!
You'll have to come see our new house! It'll be a lot bigger! Mommy says thanks for your phone number and she'll call when things are less hairy. I think that's a joke because Pogo's getting her winter coat.
Love, Julie.
