Right next door to the shinobi academy, this place is reserved for the use of the academy students. That means anyone else had best find another place to train if they don't want to face the ire of a school teacher when their students get distracted. This place is also used for administration of the genin test.

The requirements for passing as genin are as follows.

Understanding of, and ability to use, the three basic techniques. Bunshin, Henge, and Kawarimi.
Passable skill in a taijutsu style of the student's choice.
Ability to use at least one genin level technique. Also of the student's choice.
Behavior befitting of a Sunagakure shinobi.

If the student intends to be a specialist later on, they need to display ability in that area, or they will be held back for lessons on that subject.
