ah, Betta splendens, I feel that all animals should have a suitable and adequate home to roam, I mean really, a Siamese Fighting Fish Betta splendens, or even a goldfish deserves a 10, if not 30 gallon tank, it would be like sticking someone in a closet to give them anything less. After all, they do best in a 10 and 30 gallon tank respectively, and with some plants they look and act happy....although a female betta is going to hide in the plants, but that's her thang...I mean natural behavior lol! Just give your Betta a spacious, planted aquarium with plenty of vegetation in the back and a corner and it will be a happy Betta! The ONLY reason that they are sold in such inhumane setting as a cup of water is because they're hardy little swamp survivors, and as such they CAN live so long as they have food and water, but we should still give them a proper home if we choose to buy them, the same goes for all plants and animals, if you want to give it a home, at least make it HAPPY in doing so!

A 10g tank would be way too small for a goldfish. Goldfish grow over 12 inches long, they eat a lot, and they poop a lot. They can live for 20+years if given the proper treatment. If not, they'll probably die a painful death via stunting. Juss sayin'.
