Lock walked onto center stage, setting a hand on his hip as the theater director tried to tell him where to go. He held up his hand, cool as ever, and sighed. "Look, I get that you're new, but please don't direct me until you cast me." He waved off the oppressed teacher's protests and signaled for his partner to come onto stage. "Kev, do you remember where we were gonna start?" he asked, flipping through a couple pages.
The teen shrugged. "Best Kept Secret, I think?" He flipped to the page, looking over his notes. "Yeah, this one. Because remember, you wanted us both to sing, but Bare was too emotional without the lead-in?"
Lock nodded, then turned to the right page. "Alright, you ready?"
"Yeah."
The two moved closer to each other, Lock wrapping an arm around Kevin's waist and holding them close. He smiled softly, leaning in. "Are you feeling it?" he asked, moving his head back a little as he feigned being high as a kite.
Kevin placed a hand on Lock's chest, pressing gently as he glanced around, then started to move closer. "I didn't take it. I don't need it," he whispered, starting to close his eyes as he tried for a kiss.
Lock pulled back, looking aroudn nervously. "Let,s get some air," he suggested, then tugged Kevin downstage. He glanced around again, then pulled him into a passionate kiss. His hand rubbed down Kevin's back, the other teen holding on tight to the tall blonde, then pulling away and frowning.
"What, you can't kiss me inside?" he asked, offended, then took a step away and folded his arms.
Lock laughed, waving a hand to dismiss it. "I said I needed some air," he began to say.
"I heard you."
The blonde moved closer, taking Kevin's hand and pulling him gently closer as the music started. "I know this world can have a place for us
If we can try to find a way to trust
That time will be kind.
In a fantasy, I dream awake,
But reality is give and take.
You take what you can.
You give time a chance.
We'll have to wait until the world is fast asleep.
I'll wipe away the doubt and show you why we keep
The best kept secret.
The best kept secret
Of all."
Lock wrapped his arm back around Kevin's waist, holding him close as they began to sway. The teen fell into Lock's arms, closing his eyes and sighing, then looked up into Lock's eyes and brought a hand to his cheek, thumb stroking gently.
"All I ever want is there in your eyes.
They tell me I'm alright and I realize
I always knew...
We whisper words when we're alone at night.
I want to hear them in the morning light.
And with love on our side
Maybe we'd be alright.
Beneath a million stars, there's no need to pretend.
I look around tonight and
Wonder why we can't end
The best kept secret."
Kevin's voice, while not as good as Lock's or Anthony's, was pretty good. He was in choir, which was how he and Lock met, and although his acting skills left a little to be desired, he was a good partner for the talented pop star. Lock's hands fell to grasp both of Kevin's, holding tightly. "It's best kept secret," he insisted.
Kevin tugged himself away, taking several steps back and gesturing to where they'd started. "Didn't you see how no one in there cared?
A thousand people saw us dancing there.
You have to give the world a chance."
Lock shook his head, then stepped closer to challenge him. "A chance to what?
To see how deep the world can cut?
This is all a fantasy, then we go back to school.
Just think it through."
Kevin stepped closer, raising his hand to Lock's head. "I think it through, and then you shut me out.
You're such a coward!"
Lock grabbed his partner's hands and threw them off of his head. "And you're a fool." he countered.
The teen's eyes brimmed with tears as Lock turned away, and he reached out to grab his shoulder. "You know we can't go on forever this way."
Lock's hand touched Kevin's, eyes on the ground. "All this forever -- Can't you live for today?"
The blonde turned back to Kevin, who held fast to Lock's hand as they drew closer and closer together. "We have to grow up.
There's so much more to love."
Lock shook his head. "It's best kept secret..."
Finished with arguing, Kevin sighed. "The best kept secret," he sang miserably.
Standing close together with Kevin's hands on Lock's shoulders and Lock's hands on Kevin's hips, the teens stared into each other's eyes. "The best kept secret."
Kevin's hand moved to touch Lock's cheek lovingly. "I love you, Jason," he confessed tearfully and quietly, then closed his eyes as the blonde pulled him into a passionate kiss, more intimate that the first one and almost as much as the ones given to Ethan himself.
After about a minute, the two pulled away and bowed to the teacher, who clapped excitedly and hailed the two. Lock shrugged, then patted Kevin's back. "Good job, man. Tell Aggie I said hi." Kevin nodded and walked offstage to take his girlfriend's hand and sit down in the seats. The blonde waved to her, then hopped offstage and walked over to Ethan, sitting on his other side and almost leaping up and down with expectation. "So what'd you think?" he asked, nudging his side. He didn't even care Faust was there. He just wanted Ethan to have liked the performance.
