i havent completely let go of the girl i liked and got rejected by. its been a few months since, i still havent completely let go of her. (on a side note, one of my parents has this same "effect", where one takes a long time to forget or let go) could that be it, or am i not really over her?

Well you said flat out that you aren't over her. It's possible that you have learned the 'holding on' behavior from your parent but I think that is pretty normal no matter what. From what I've seen and heard the easiest way to get over someone is to find someone new. Start looking around at other girls that you might have not considered before. Even if you don't find then so hot they are steaming when you are attracted to them for their personality their physical aspects become much more appealing.

It took me several months to even be able to start to be able to let go of my ex. Even now, 10 months later, I'm still working on it.
As Chalda said, you can try finding someone else, or doing things to take your mind off your ex.
